- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- This episode is a continuation of the valve stem seal replacement on the N62 4.8L V8 engine. They had to be replaced due to blue smoke and oil consumption issue. We are putting the engine back together and along the way replacing the water pump, thermostat, coolant hose, alternator bracket seal, strip bolt, vapor blast, service the ZF 6HP28X transmission with new seals and solenoids and a lot more.

I could watch my wife washing up all day long.....and nothing, but watching you washing parts, gives me warm fuzzy feeling........
Respect to the man who treats his videos like transmission oil pan
Watched your channel before, I enjoy your straight forward approach, you're obviously very knowledgeable when it comes to BMW's
I just purchased my first bmw
It's a grand tourismo 550i twin turbo v8
2012 121000 km with full service history only one of 3 in New Zealand , it's so nice to drive
Regards ian Brunt
I don't know how you manage to maintain 100% of my focus for one hour. It's incredible the content you make.
So true
True, I can't watch netflix for more than 15 minutes and this guy...
You serviced a transmission!!! Props my man. Loved my X5 35d. One of the best cars I had. Until the mirrors darkened, the EGRpipe cracked, the infotainment screen went screwy, the turbo died…. Lol. I would still get another in a heartbeat.
Can't wait to watch this for a 2nd time. Love your dedication to professionalism in getting the audio cleaned up, but the first one wasn't unwatchable by any means.
I have no idea what you're talking about. First video had great audio
@@aaaaa_12345 Aside from his mic dying when he removed the BMW logo lol
@@aaaaa_12345 it was out of sync only
@@myownname5 Which part was it? I don't remember if there was any.
@@aaaaa_12345 Check the channel community section, there was some desync with the audio. It wasn't bad at all, but he took the time to fix it anyways.
Despite having sold all my BMW's, I still watch regularly. Serendipitously, my non-BMW fleet gets bunches of BMW parts to keep on the road. Thanks and keep up the entertaining, motivating content!
Man!! Your videos are the definition of perfection!! Editing, transitions, music, quality of filming and finally the content! Your videos should be the benchmark of modern youtube! The gold standard of fixing car! Best car fixing channel ever!!
So well said. I think exactly the same
not to mention his choice of cars are some of the most expensive to have a shop work on ,the man has saved his viewers millions!
Thanks Sreten, once again, perfect video! Should do wonders for any new / veteran car wrenchers.
I am so happy this channel exists. It got me to change the oil pan gasket on my s54 powered M3 and while I was doing the work found soooo many other items that needed service from the tire rods with torn boots to leaking vanos accumulator. Even found the AC bracket badly cracked so I replaced it. Now I have really no fear on that car for any service and will do the valve shims and other vanos items in the winter.
Thank you so much sir! This is very helpful. I have 645ci and I love it. I may just drop the entire engine and also change the smg clutch.
As a fellow E70 owner I can sympathize with getting those pesky valve covers to clear the shaft sensor! Also apparently I’m not the only one who has to climb up into the bay to get anything done 😂
This channel is the only one I look forward to notifications from. Keep it up!! 🎉
I actually spent a few days trying to get it out. Later saw a video disconnects the DME and looses the cable shall do the left side. Right side shall be ok once the fuel and coolant lines are removed.
@@bluegables Yeah, I was looking at those cables and thinking they could/should be disconnected to make it easier to get that valve cover in. Although fuel and coolant lines are trickier to deal with than wiring harnesses.
He's just gotta recover those 10 mills otherwise they will be the cause of his next grief..
The transmission service was fascinating to watch, and it fixed the issue!
I took audio production classes in college and I totally understand your pickiness when viewing audio recordings, especially your own. You just catch every small thing & it makes you go insane
Absolutely, but it was actually youtube's fault as the video got corrupted
It's the same when you're an auto tech and fix your car or your friends car. Every ding, scratch, blemish drives you nuts, especially if you're a detailer as well lol. Every little nvh will make you go mental.
Great job on the trans! Again, it reminded me of my old E53, it had original fluid at 150k which I replaced with ZF factory fluid. What a difference that made. What you did here with the mechatronics unit was next level, must be like a new trans now.
Yep. That's the correct fix. The "lifetime" fluid is bullshit. Fluids inside a transmission should be changed just like any other oil. If that claim, which is 100% a wanketing overstatement, were true, then they'd never change the transmission fluids on far more complex machinery like farming implements. And boy do those fluids get changed, by the oil drums. Those gearboxes make this one look like a child's toy by comparison with all the various options and different clutch packs and solenoids. In our lot, we change the fluid every 10k. Not too many times, not too far between them either. We've never, not once had issues with our gearboxes. They are by far the most reliable component across several brand, once you disregard the obvious bullshit.
Never in my life did I expect toI enjoy a video about an X5 getting maintenance SO damn much. This was awesome Sreten. Thank you for the quality content!
I am hooked to your channel since Malaga project, the city where I live and where you rescued the car of my dreams, the 850. Impressive content that you make. Greetings from Spain.
I was lucky enough to watch it entirely before it was pulled off and now I'm watching it for the 2nd time :)
Same hahaha
Cok Guzel Salih 😎
Why was it pulled off though. Hope not because of the audio delay. Because that’s an issue with UA-cam not the video. It’s been happening with many people for the past 3 days
@@IntegraDIY it was the audio issue. I didn't have a problem myself, but there were a lot of complaints. By the way, I used to have a 99 DC2 Type R, man I miss that car.. 😭

I don't like SUVs that much (except for LC & RR) but I definitely like the 1st and 2nd generations of the X5. They are good looking and people seem to like them even after all these years.
Another great video Sreten! I'm sure you noticed as well but at 50:15 and the subsequent shots the wheels jerk forward noticeably. Maybe worth checking when you do the suspension. Have a nice vacation!
Also very noticeable on 51:49, good catch.
Thrust arm bushings are shot, we are doing suspension in the next episode :) thank you!
I noticed the same thing myself and came here to see did someone already ask and answer the question, thanks!
@@M539Restorations hi Sreten. Where did you buy that 90 degree thermostat?! Thanks

I love how this man was wearing the seat belt while test driving in the yard. Just marvelous :)) Great work as always! 💪❤️
To prevent the annoying bonging noise I would have thought
Look at the front left wheel when you change from D to R. I think there is a really bad bushing somewhere.
Great work, great videos!
yup its look clunky
This was a most enlightening episode. My wife’s car is an E70 4.8i and it has the issue with reverse gear being slow to engage. Now I have something on my list to do.
What was the issue on the slow reverse engagement ? Having the same issue in the e70
Really loved the Lifetime Oil sticker at 35:40 :D
Was waiting for the re upload so desperately. I’ve never been so addicted to any channel/content ever before.
Upside down magnetic plate is amazing :)) Also another thanks for ZF service! Waited for E70 for years and now I have a nice enjoyable live joking manual for servicing it :) Thanks and Bless You!
50:14 Am I hallucinating or does the front wheel go a nudge forward when the car is put in reverse? :D
Otherwise GREAT Video as always.
Bad control arms
Thrust arm bushings are shot. Will be addressed in the next episode
@@M539Restorations Well, seems it wasn't a hallucination. 😅
I'm looking forward to the next episode 👍🏻
I’m loving these. Learning a fair bit. Here in Australia GM Holden did a discount version of this drive train and even use a similar NV Transfer case. I suspect a few other components too. They used the LS motor and 4L65e. Front prop shaft looks similar.
So it goes with out saying you did super informative video. But then I just said it was a super informative video, so I did say it.
You should put xHP's gearbox software on the clunkomatic. It makes the 6HP feel way more modern and responsive, better fuel economy too ;)
I had one of these with m sport package. Such a beast! Loved it and kept it to 100k miles. Traded it since it just had too many issues and extended warranty ran out. Moved to the x5 gen after that and it was a POS in comparison.
Very subtle way to tell your viewers you’re going on vacation 😂. As usual top notch episode.
Love watching you use the aqua-blast machine, makes you want to take the whole engine out and clean everything 😅
Now THAT would be satisfying!
Let's get this beautiful episode back on track! I'll just have to re play it the whole day! Great episode as always Sreten!

Love that aqua blaster results.
Thanks!
Awesome work as always! I noticed at 50:15 and other shots when you you were testing reverse that the front wheel jerked forward, maybe bad control arm bushings or ball joints?
Yes, thrust arm bushings are shot. We are doing suspension in the next episode
Spot on. When exceptional becomes usual.

Thank you sir. I have been waiting for a video like this for a while. I have two BMWs with this Transmission that both need to be serviced. One has 167k miles on it but has never been serviced. I know but i haven't had the time, money or knowledge on how to do it. But it just started feeling off. These transmissions are pretty stout.
this is the most amazing step by step resto channel of em all. Keep up the great work you are extremely informative and your work is impeccable!

I only seen your post to watch the video again after I had watched it twice.
Great work!
Love your videos, have watched since project Dubai part2, have seen every single video.
You could actually make another channel for some easy fixes with regular tools and some troubleshooting videos, all car enthusiasts always try to fix their car issues first themselves! Could be amazing.
Wow, I've been watching since around the same time. Looked back at Sreten's videos and realized project Dubai started 3 years ago. Gee, time has flown, but every video has always been a pleasure to watch. Thanks Sreten!
This guy is incredible, he managed to rotate the whole car upside down so the bolts were at hand when re installing the trans valve body, who needs 3 hands when you can just spin the car like a rotisserie
Nice customer service man! Promise in 24hours and 2 hours later its fixed! Nice work mate!
I'm in NY on vacation, had to go back to my hotel to fix and export the video, then used TeamViewer from my phone to connect to my laptop and upload it while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. Was tricky but got it done. 😅

Great video as always and worth the extra wait.
Just so people know, Bmw brought these out as a 'filled for life' transmission. What this actually meant was its not a service item whilst under warranty (5 years). It was still meant to be serviced but obviously every 5 years or 150,000ks as all automatics burn its oil eventually. These transmissions were alsp used in our aussie falcons but had a service schedule in place from ford.
Hence why the E70 have trans related issues and people/ mechanics take the life time fill for granted.
Just a fact i learnt in my auto career working with ZF and Bmw
Yeah, I was like wtf when he said that some are refilling the old oil 😅Bmw says it's "lifetime", but what they actually mean by lifetime is 180k kilometers(and it's official according to bmw themselves, no joke). That's the sad reality of bmw unfortunately. Some even have to change it after 60k kilometers because of problems with transmission.

Best channel ever - I love it!
The only thing I would really like would be a general explanation here and there. In this case for example: This ´brain structure´ in the coffin does so and so. Or: We only need this lower part of the transmission because the mechanic side of it above typically has no faults. Or: The function of the sway bar is... Or: A solanoid does...
Something like that. You get the idea. Just maybe 5% more just for the non specialists? I imagine that there a quite a lot of viewers watching you, loving your work and passion and would like - from time to time - what the hell you are doing and why :-) What do you think?
Oh, and how about a video about your tool skills? Let´s learn from you. How you use a wrench correctly, where is quality needed when it comes to tools and where can one use cheaper things? Are you cleaning your tools? If so - how often? How do you clean them?
Once again, a fantastic episode. I'm so impressed by the way how you pick up all the technical challenges like rebuilding a complete engine but also fixing the automatic gears. Super interesting content and I'm always enjoying a new video from you, so keep them coming :). My hat is off to you.

Sreten's enthusiasm for vapour blasting is highly entertaining. It's the shear enjoyment of watching someone who wants something to be shiny and perfect knowing that, soon, it will be, like a big Christmas present is about to be opened!

we found that the valve covers warp so i always replace them . also you may as well remove the intake to replace the belly pan unit, easier to fit valve covers with intake off.

As a VW Porsche Audi "technician" while in college in Columbia, MO, decades ago. at the (now defunct) John Riddick VW Porsche Audi, looking at how you painstakingly restored the auto trans components brought back not-so-fond memories. I wish I had UA-cam before I ruined that poor couple's Type 3 trans during a routine service! I'll never forget the look on their faces when they rode in the tow truck back to the dealership after I wrecked their transmission because I had zero training, and was paid flat rate to 'get the job done quickly'.
Hi! Impressive video, specially the part of AT fixing. Why BMW keep saying these transmissions are “sealed for life”? I bought a 2015 520d touring in 2019 and I’ve serviced the ZF8 each 60000 km (ZF sells a service kit). Ok, it’s not cheap, but I’m pretty sure it will last many years thanks to the correct maintenance. please continue to delight us with your fantastic videos! Best restoration channel of UA-cam by far!
I have nothing else to say other than like usual, I love your work. Its a treat to watch you go about your methodical process of diagnosis and repair.
