This is one of the best fishing videos I've seen in a while. You always check out and back up your points with evidence---experience, video, etc. Thank you, Steve. Love the content you provide on your channel.
This to me is the ultimate bass learning channel hands down. Other channels tell you how to work a bait or sell you a bait. Steve teaches you real world experience he encounters, and most often backs it up with underwater footage.
Love the teaching with visual props, Steve. We appreciate that this isn’t the easiest to put together, but it sure is more helpful than the words alone. Thanks!
A lot of anglers are locked in on that bottom dragging mentality this time of year and I think you put it perfectly how that can hurt the bites we get. I'm fortunate that the waters I fish have so much vegetation that the oxygen levels stay roughly balanced for the most part. But even I have switched from dragging a jig or a worm to fishing above those fish!
We had over 5” of rain in a huge long storm last week. Water dropped 4 degrees and totally changed the fishing. Bass we’re all over the place from stirring up mud to 14’ deep. I have never been more confused in my life. Only had a couple of hours on the water and never got a bite. That’s rare for my home Lake.
That is a lot of rain in a short time! One of the worst tournaments I ever had in my life was on Beaver Lake in Arkansas where it just poured nonstop and the water levels rose a lot. The angler that won fished a bluff bank where those bass didn't spread out as much. I mentally beat myself before I even launched the boat that day. We are getting some storms right now.
Steve, you definitely have the best educational bass fishing content online. I've watched them all, including bassmaster pay to watch stuff, and haven't found better info and advice that you provide. Thanks, Brother!
I have learned so much from your channel- it’s mind-boggling to see the progression from this year to last. Just the simple rigging techniques, the lure weight to line weight, and my catch ratio are proving to me that your information is making me a better angler after application. Thank you SO much for sharing this knowledge. It’s invaluable!
It is something I have struggled with a lot over the years - fishing too deep. It is something I need to constantly evaluate. Thanks so much for watching!
That is a great perspective Steve! Thanks for the underwater footage. I live in East TN and it gets really tough this time of year. I went out today and tried a new approach. I fished laydowns with a jig that were in shallow water. I had a little success, but I think that if I might have presented a different presentation, I might have caught more. Its all a puzzle that's fun to put together.
I always give an area a little time to normalize after I approach. I’ll get to the area like a main lake point and there’s nothing there but if I wait they’ll usually show up. As always excellent info. 👍
It is incredible how they just circle back like that. I think of all the fish I missed over the years because of it. Thank you for sharing this tip for everyone!
Everything u said was right on point with my results. Fish here in central Florida tighten up and feed heavy for shorter periods. Early mid day and late afternoon. I'm trying more night fishing this year with some varying results. Getting away from the crowds so to speak
I've wanted to get out and do some night fishing this summer, but my schedule has kept me from doing it. Hopefully soon! Definitely nice to get away from the crowds too.
I've done it again caught another big girl yesterday 8 lbs 1/2 oz! Super hot shallow water like all the rest. Sense June my 4 biggest have been 7.4 - 8.05 - 8.6 - 9.3 Big swimbaits & big worm & frogs played a little part too. Had 5 others above 5lbs & multiple 4's also. Good vid as usual. Ivt been learning this hot shallow thing first hand this summer. I used to try fish deeper years previously
@@SteveRogersOutdoors yes sir, it will be!I've been fishing this lake for almost 2 yrs now sense we moved down to southern SC from Cincinnati Ohio area. I finally started figuring out how to catch these big ones in this lake. It took a lot time on water in my kayak to put it all together.I've been writing down all details on all these big bass 4+ lbs. Like the date, times of catch, lures, water depth, temp, structure of any. Other than hot shallow water, & big baits. That's only things very consistent. I can't find any correlation with moon phases or the Bass Master fishing calendar? Most of them were caught on days & times that the Bass Master fishing calendar says should be bad, except one. Do you ever pay attention to any of that?
@@maxcole3930 I don’t use the moon calendar. I figure when I get out there I have to figure them out no matter what time it is. Lol. I know a lot of anglers do though.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Thanks, the profile picture is my PB 9lb 3oz. I caught on July 23rd. She was 26" long & 16.5" in girth! Fatter than a lot of fish are long...
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I never paid attention to it before either until recently because one of the big ones was on a new moon. The rest were in middle of full & new moon phases. I know the moon phases have big affects of saltwater fishing because of the tides. Just something else I thought may be worth looking into. But hasn't shown me anything promising yet
Thanks! Definitely will impact smallies too. A lot of the smallmouth waters tend to be clearer, so that vegetation will often grow deeper and will impact oxygen levels.
If I can get away with it and then water is really stained or has lots of that algae, I try to get away with a bladed jig, but if that fails I will immediately go to a ned rig or jig rig. Great question!
@@SteveRogersOutdoors After watching this, I'm going to fish super shallow with a 1/16 oz wacky rigged Flick Shake worm 👍. Never fished this shallow in August.
Whenever that happens I always ponder how many times I was tossing lures where the bass were not at. It is a fun bite for sure when it gets figured out!

When I measured the length of my van it really hit me how easy it is to fish below them. I know I have done it way too much by accident.
2:36 no way you don't get to 100k subs. Never considered O2 content as a motivation regarding depth. Carry on sir and we'll keep watching.
Thanks! Hopefully, some day we’ll get there.
This lesson so valuable that's it's cut in stone once again Steve is the best teacher on UA-cam by far
Thank you!
Steve thanks for another great video. You’re right. I am a shallow water guy and have also realized the deep water myth of summer and winter too.
Thank you!

Ur explanation on the thermocline is spot on.. im guessing this is why top water works so well right now..thanks for ur hard work
Thanks! Watching them blow up on a topwater never gets old.
Very good info. I saw that today fishing a local river. In 25 feet of water I saw fish hanging around 10-15 feet levels. Not top and not bottom.
