I remember Novak giving an interview late in 2014 or maybe even at the beginning of 2015, where he was asked if he could ever duplicate the 2011. And he responded something like: "What I've done in 2011, I can do again. There is no reason not to be able to accomplish similar results". And he was right. He had an even better 2015 season.
2011 was so exciting, especially the french open. Seeing federer (my fav) beat a streaking Djokovic then fall apart as usual to Nadal in the French open was insane. What's crazy is I was living in Spain as a teenager and the town went from loving Federer against Djoker to hating him against Nadal in 2 days xD That French Open Semis Novak vs Roger was maybe the most memorable match I can remember. And Nadal Federer 2017 AO (due to circumstances)
2023 is a tier in itself. Rated R as Revenge season. 1) returning in Australia + USA with 4 titles 2) avenging 2021 us open 3) beating Carlos in Cincinnati+ ATP finals. + Bonus beating Rune the prick in Paris
I really wish we could see 2011 Novak vs 2015 Novak vs 2021 Novak. I think 2015 would win because the mix of experience and energy, while other 2 seasons have only one of these
I personally think 2011 djokovic is the most scariest version of him, not as complete as 2015 because lack of his serve, but his style was very impressive back then, destroy prime nadal 7-0 in finals is just outstanding
Amazing video. Hoping to see one of these for Roger and Rafa (and an update on this one once Djokovic decides to retire, cant see that happening for at least 4 years though). Even before watching once you explained the tier rules I knew 2011, 15, 21 would be S tier and 2017 would be D tier. Loved hearing your thoughts on where the other seasons ranked, great reasoning.
Great video, well done! I completely agree with your tier list. It is worth noting the following: the bar for Novak Djokovic is set so high, that his worst season in 2017 (which for his standards is deservedly a D) would be an S Tier for most of the players in the tour, or even an S+. See, despite struggling with his elbow, bad shape and lack of confidence, he was able to pull off 2 ATP titles, which were Doha on hard and Eastbourne on Grass. He also made semi-finals in Madrid, finals in Rome and quarter-finals in Roland Garros. Most players have never won a single ATP 250 tour title, which can be the highlight of their whole careers in case they grab one of those. The first half of 2018 was kind of a continuation of that dark period for him. But from Rome onwards he gradually built up his form that culminated in that epic semi-final against Nadal in Wimbledon 2018. One of the best Grand Slam matches in history.
2011 is absolutely my favourite because of the sheer speed and athleticism around the court, and also because Federer and Nadal were stronger than in later years. 2015 was obviously ruthless. 2021 was magical because you just think it's not possible to do what he did at 34. Obviously the competition was not great though.
I like your tier list. What Novak achieved in the three S tier season are different types of greatness. In 2011 season he was unbeatable during the first half of the season, until THAT semifinal against Roger. From that match on, his level has dropped a little in the second part of the season, even though he won wimbledon and us open. In 2021 season he was unbeatable in Grand Slam tournaments, but besides from that, he did not have a great overall season like the others two. But in this one he was really one match away from history. 2015 it's in my opinion is greatest season overall. He won 3 grand slams, dominating every match. He won 6 masters 1000s (reaching 8 finals), a record in a season and he won the atp finals, which in the other two seasons, he failed to do. So for me, 2015 belongs to the top 2 greatest season of all time, alongside with Roger's 2006 season Both God Tier season.
Yeah no surprise that looking at ATP points (adjusted to modern ranking system) Djokovic's 2015 and Federer's 2006 are the two highest year end totals of all time at 16,585 and 15,903 respectively. In fact, Djokovic's 2011 and Federer's 2007 are 3rd and 4th on almost identical points.
Btw judging by how things are currently going this season (depending on the outcome of Sunday's match at RG...) it is on the pace into either A or an S Tier, unless something major derails this season entirely!
2022 was an interesting year because he did something no one did before, I think - he won the tournaments of each category - 250, 500, a masters, a grand slam, and a YE championship.

Djokovic is the GOAT , and not because he won 22 GS, but because he beat Nadal on clay more times than any other two players on the tour put together. If Novak wins another RG title, or Olympic gold , there will be nothing left to talk about tennis for the next 63 yrs.
@ML official Why do you think Nadal fans thought that Rafa was the GOAT - because he had winning H2H vs. Roger or because he had less GS titles until 2021 ?
And after that, another S tier year for Novak. My God, this doesn't seem even real, after all these acomplishments, somehow at 36 years old he played arguably 3rd greatest season of his career. I mean, wow...
Have to agree with every single one of your ratings. Given Djokovic has taken out the first two of the Grand Slams he's probably locked in an A-tier already. We'll see if he can make this an S-tier due to the final two grand slam results of the year (and, in a far smaller part his Masters/ATP Finals results).
I'd put 2016 above 2008... first half of the season was absolutely ridiculous and Djokovic still managed to win Toronto and make the final of US Open and ATP Finals post-RG...
2013 will be remembered more for great great games than for his strength. AO Wawrinka, RG Nadal, WB Del Potro, and a little lower, US Wawrinka. The first three in particular will be historic matches.

2015-2023 Fedal became non existent due to old age and injuries Novak began to dominate. Clearly shows Novak couldn’t touch Fedal during their prime except Nadal in 2011. Grand slams won during 2006-2014 (Fedal prime era) is 7 and grand slams won from 2015-2023 (Weakest next gen Era) is 16. Shows clearly Fedal at their best > Djokovic
It does not show that at all , Novak peaked in 2011 . Federer wasn't dominating at 19-20 like Nadal was , he was similar to Novak's age in 2011 when he started to dominate much weaker competition than what Novak had . And even if we exclude 2011 and focus on 2012-2014 Nadal won 1 more slam in that period than Novak , while Roger won 1 slam I would hardly call that dominance from anybody say perhaps 2013 for Nadal . Who did Roger have to deal with in the 2004-2007 years ? Roddick , a decade older Agassi , Safin , Hewitt , and some other non slam winners . His problem started when Nadal came along but a 20-21 year old Nadal was still young but still gave Roger trouble and in 2008 when he was 22 bear Roger at WImbledon , 2009 AO , he started to beat him everywhere . Novak from 2011 is the best player , Nadal was better in 2013 but not by a crazy degree . Nadal mostly dominated clay , i mean he won from 2011 3 slams outside of the FO and one of those is where Novak was deported . Novak has proven to be the best player overall . His records eclipse both of those of Nadal and Federer and the guy keeps on winning . I will say this Nadal is obviously better on clay , I don't think anybody will argue otherwise . Roger is likely better on very fast surfaces but only there . Medium speed hc , slow hc , and modern grass which is slower Novak dominated since 2011 . Federer lost 3 times to Novak at slams when he had 2 match points , that was not due to age , he didn't become grandpa when he needed 1 more point , Novak was just more clutch and never gave up and won , turning the tide on his side . Nadal also never had a long period of his dominance , he could dominate 1 year and then he got overtaken by Novak . Nadal also has only 1 season where he won 3 slams compared to Roger and Novak who have 3 season with 3 slam wins . In that season he never played Roger and played Novak once in the US Open final . Novak also won 4 in a row , when did Roger or Nadal do that , oh right , never . You can argue who the better / greater player is between Roger and Rafa but Novak is clearly number 1 .
@saula8948 don't even waste your breath trying to prove to fedheads that their era was weak. They'll tell you Roddick and Safin are better than Nadal and Murray 🤣
