Thank you so much!! This was so easy and I've been putting off replacing the controller for two years now because I thought that's what I was going to end up doing. I knew that it was probably a short in the controller after the A/C would work if I had the dash open and by wiggling the connector(s), and the vent mode actuator was inop too. I finally pulled it out today and happened upon your video. Didn't have solder that small, so I went to radio shack and picked up .022". Ice cold now.
Thank you for this video...wasnt too bad of a fix in my 93 Prelude Si, just didnt like removing it from the dash...what a pain. It all goes together much much quicker. Just take care in soldering the contacts. Once together the a/c came on after a bit of R134.
Thanks for the quick response. I soldered all the pins exactly the way you did on your video but the a/c control still seems dead lights are still off. But when I click the a/c button the throttle seems to increase a little bit. Still not blowing thought. Checked all the fuses under the driver dash and they're all good. I checked the ones in the box in the engine bay and the one for the fan is missing, do you think that would be the reason? Thanks in advance.
Do you know if the 5th gens had the same issue? My '97 has this issue where you press the button for, say, the floor vents, but it gets stuck somewhere in between. It won't even go to defog. I'm trying to figure out if it's the blend door actuator, but I've seen that the 4th gens had solder problems. This would be a lot easier.
I took the whole thing apart without having to actually taking everything off. Do any of you know where the spring goes? Also the slider for my temp stops at the very last slider where I have to use more force to slide it all the way to cool(where the metal silver-ish bracket holds down the slider)
Nice vid, I got it working again thanks! One quick question, does it matter which way the top 2 LEDs go or which side? I saw one labeled G and one F but they didnt go on after the fix...maybe I messed up a connection?
I opened it again soldered a few more and it seems to work now. I noticed that every time I would put the climate control for face only I would hear a loud clicking coming from under the driver side.. It turned out to be the servo motor for the a/c. I googled a tut on how to clean it and it was very easy. I cleaned the motor, put it back and the loud clicking sound went away and now it works just fine. The air that comes out is still a bit warm so i'm putting some freon in it sometime this week.
Thanks for the video! It gets the message across as to how to fix those solder points. Now, for someone who loves to drive his prelude (and doesn't know how to work on cars, but CAN fix electronics), How do I remove the unit from my dash? Please help with that and I'll be golden. Thanks!
My 1999 prelide base model that module stop working .. is noting ab hot or coold air no blower fan noise no yellow or green ligths on that module module does noting and allso ac gren ligth on that module dosent work can it be my solution ..?? Im ab to replace rhe blower motor resistor to see if it works ..cus usually wen you press the ac butoom radiator fans start working in my case noting .. please can you give me an idea or sombotty??? Please.thanks....😞😞all my fuses and relays they ok..😥😥
THANK YOU for this, would not be able to find the motivation to do it without this clip! I totally fucked up while soldering, two pins got soldered together but all works fine except the rear window defroster and the driver side vents on door and window. The rear defroster button is stuck at 'on' posistion, but doesnt work. And when i press the button I can hear a clicking sound right above the fuse box (footwell driver side) Any tips?
It looked like the solder areas were touching? So you just used new solder to melt in? And they didn't overlap each other or short out? Just curious so I make sure I do this correctly
Gary. My AC just stop getting cold. Could this be the problem that I need to fix. Yes I did put freon and the Ac does blow. Yall think I just need to fix this?
Hi, my a/c control is totally dead, no lights come on at all even when i turn on my night lights. I bought the car like this, it seem like no electricity gets to any of the buttons on the a/c control. will doing this help? and what exactly are you doing to the pins? is it just coating over them? thanks in advance.
At 0:36, what type of screw head/screw is that? I am having the same problem with my prelude and would like to get everything together before i begin. Thank you for this video btw.
Hey, the lights on my unit sometimes flickers, and some buttons seem to work not the way they are supposed to fan air, but they fan air in different settings. I live in Montreal Canada. How much would it cost for you to fix it and then send it back to me, and how long will it take? thank you.
+684W13 Hey it would be $30 + $30 for return shipping. The shipping is 6-10 days insured priority international. Once I receive the unit it would take 1 business day to fix.
So i thought my compressor was messed up, but i ended up pushingand holding my ac button hard as hell, and my condenser and compressor started working! Without pushing and holding, the lights come up but it doesnt blow cold. Any ideas?
so will this help if my climate control is stuck on the same setting? ie, the vents blow towards the floor even if i switch the controls for cabin, windshield, etc it still blows towards the floor on all settings
Hi I have a 1995 Honda Prelude my dome light is not working I changed the bulb I get a flash when I first turn it on iv tryed looking into the fuse box but I can’t find the dome light fuse also my cover for my climate control is not attached to my heating unit can I attach it with out opening up the dash or is it un avoidable thanks :)
the dome light might have a loose connection in the light / switch assembly. i don't think the front cc cover will fit through the vent bezel, give it a try. if it doesn't slide through, you will have to take the dash apart.
a DIY Car Guy thanks so much if I run into anything else I’ll let yea know :) switching it from auto to manual just pulling parts from donor car right now
do all the solder points on the green plug need to be touching in order for it to function properly? my ac button light does not come on so i was thinking it was the C.C. unit but all my solder looks pretty clean
it might look clean but there are micro cracks..if you get a magnifying glass you can see them. all of those solder points are not supposed to touch each other if that's what you mean. the pins that go through the green plug need to be soldered to the circuit board to work though. if you need help with the soldering i have an ebay listing for the repair, just go to my UA-cam Page, and click "Do You Need Car Parts" in the top banner area.
I'm doing a total retro fit on my car right now. I already installed everything, the only problem is I cannot find the connection that plugs into the compressor, any ideas where that connection comes from or where it could be?
hello.. i was hooking a push start button and i accidently arch on the ignition housing... ignition fuse pop, now my A/C doesn't have power. checked climate fuse, all ok.. any suggestions????
can you replace 1998 Honda civic heating cooling climate control device with 1999 Honda civic climate control device? I know they look different and all, heat and air is only coming out of the front blower on the 98 civic, it doesn't come out on windshield or down by your feet. the heat and air work and buttons for windshield and feet click and light up, just doesn't come out in those
if they look different than probably not. but it sounds like the servos that control the air flow are stuck or might not be working, you'll have to find them under the dash and press the buttons and see if they move
I took mine apart, soldered it, and my problem didnt change (AC only coming through defrost), if the lights are coming on with each button, does that mean the climate control is working properly and my problem is elsewhere?
Similar thing is happening to my Honda Civic, the little lights of the panel flicker and the heating knob does not control the temp right. You thing the temp control is bad and needs your fix?
it depends if your temp is controlled by a cable or a servo....usually its a cable so my fix wouldnt help in that case...my fix would probably help the flickering lights but i dont know how the cc units on civics are designed...if your temp isnt working then the the cable or servo isnt working right, or you might need to bleed the coolant system or there is a block in the coolant system
the slider? look under the passenger side dash and slide the temp control back and forth, you should see something moving. if nothing is moving then the cable is probably broken or fell off.
I have a 97prelude at 1st I couldn't switch it from air to heat now I can't which it back heat now it is Stays on air is it my switch on the Box is still open But is not allowing engine heat in to defrost
hey i got a 1991 honda civic hatch back dx. when car is on turn heat on full. nothing happends. turn car off turn the ignition key to on before starting car. you can hear blower blows but no heat. i go to turn car on and nothin not even blower...what do you think it is.?
check the blower resistor for the blower problem. for the no heat problem, make sure the heater core valve is opening when you slide the temperature to the hot temp. the valve is on the passenger side firewall where the coolant hoses go through.
+a DIY Car Guy ok cool. It's a friend's car so I haven't looked at it yet, just doing some research. This seems to be a common problem so hopefully it's the cc unit and nothing major. Thanks
as long as the green light is on im pretty sure the unit will be sending the signal to the compressor.......but since you said that the green light goes on and off, im thinking the problem is in your unit and it should be fixed first before you look at anything else
Thanks for watching, if you're not comfortable repairing your unit, consider my repair service: www.ebay.com/itm/REPAIR-for-YOUR-92-96-HONDA-PRELUDE-CLIMATE-CONTROL-HEATER-AC-LIFETIME-WARRANTY-/301961066742?
a DIY Car Guy hi my vent lights do not turn on and do not change the vent to floor or windshield is this the most likely problem? motor is probably okay Im guessing
If it stopped getting cold the freon leaked out again. Unless if the green light doesnt come on when you press the A/C button, then you need to fix the climate control unit.
the shifter console has to come out, then the radio trim, then the radio bezel, then you can get to the screws to take the climate control out. i cant make a video on that, i haven't had a prelude in 3 years lol...maybe i could make a picture video, i have pictures
yea it's all fixed. funny thing is that i fixed it by getting angry and banged on the system and walla, it went back to normal. however, in the long run i think this would be a better fix
Thank you so much!! This was so easy and I've been putting off replacing the controller for two years now because I thought that's what I was going to end up doing. I did all that and found out that the a/c works thnx bro!!
Thank you for this video...wasnt too bad of a fix in my 93 Prelude Si, just didnt like removing it from the dash...what a pain. It all goes together much much quicker. Just take care in soldering the contacts. Once together the a/c came on after a bit of R134.
+Viabeat you're welcome, thanks for watching, I agree the dash is a big pain at first
It's probably been a long time but how exactly did you remove it from the console
Thank you for taking your time to make the video.
Thanks for the quick response. I soldered all the pins exactly the way you did on your video but the a/c control still seems dead lights are still off. Awsome vid! Been rackin my brain tryn to fix my ac!!! Thanks!!!! I would have never thought about the solder points!!!

I'm trying to figure out if it's the blend door actuator, but I've seen that the 4th gens had solder problems. This would be a lot easier.
I believe they did but it was more rare because I think they added a reinforcement to stabilize the plug
I took the whole thing apart without having to actually taking everything off. Do any of you know where the spring goes? Also the slider for my temp stops at the very last slider where I have to use more force to slide it all the way to cool(where the metal silver-ish bracket holds down the slider)

Hell yeah this worked for me! Thanks dude!
I couldn't get the solder points to be as nice as yours with the hersheys kiss shape but meh it works haha.
That's bad ass I just tried getting my ac going but there was no signal from the control and it blows wherever it wants and is stuck will this fix it

You said something about the light flashing if this was the problem, is that the AC light on the button flashing when you turn it on?
It looked like the solder areas were touching? So you just used new solder to melt in? And they didn't overlap each other or short out? Just curious so I make sure I do this correctly
make sure they are NOT overlapping or touching
Gary. My AC just stop getting cold. Could this be the problem that I need to fix. Yes I did put freon and the Ac does blow. Yall think I just need to fix this?
so by doin this this for sure will solve the flickering lights on this !?

Will this fix the blower not coming on?
@GaryKist
Does this fix the problem where you select for air to be sent somewhere, say your feet or the upper console and the system does not respond?
I think the switch that runs across the hot and cold broke or detached , any advise on what to do ?
Posted in the description, thanks
So i thought my compressor was messed up, but i ended up pushingand holding my ac button hard as hell, and my condenser and compressor started working! Without pushing and holding, the lights come up but it doesnt blow cold. Any ideas?
first I would try resoldering like in the video. it's something to do with the climate control if pushing the button hard made the compressor come on
a DIY Car Guy ok thank you!

raymondzzzzz Sorry I dont know...it should be in the general area of the compressor
a DIY Car Guy thank you, I found it. it was just tucked away.
hello..
i was hooking a push start button and i accidently arch on the ignition housing...

yea, i would test the servo/s on the ductwork, there is also a fuse but I don't think that's the problem
glad it helped man!
no problem, good luck!
What size solder is that?
I just soldered these but the switches still don't work, only the fan switch. Any suggestions?
@nowitstimeforbeer .015 diameter. 1 oz. silver-bearing. you could probably use larger, but this is just what i have
Similar thing is happening to my Honda Civic, the little lights of the panel flicker and the heating knob does not control the temp right. You thing the temp control is bad and needs your fix?

so, are those the ONLY points that ever need to be re soldered? I saw alot more than just those ones you touched.
+James Stewart yea usually....if there's more than that, your unit is pretty messed up! just solder them if they look like they need it.
I have a 97prelude at 1st I couldn't switch it from air to heat now I can't which it back heat now it is Stays on air is it my switch on the Box is still open But is not allowing engine heat in to defrost

check the blower resistor for the blower problem. for the no heat problem, make sure the heater core valve is opening when you slide the temperature to the hot temp. the valve is on the passenger side firewall where the coolant hoses go through.
Got you thanks alot!$!
Sal Gonzalez no problem, hopefully that fixes it
sweet. thanks for the quick reply
Is this a way to get the ac to actually turn on, or is it just for the other controls?
+baca360 it will fix the AC too, as long this is causing the problem
+a DIY Car Guy ok cool. It's a friend's car so I haven't looked at it yet, just doing some research. This seems to be a common problem so hopefully it's the cc unit and nothing major. Thanks
baca360 np, good luck!

Hi, it needs to be resoldered like in the video
If it stopped getting cold the freon leaked out again. Unless if the green light doesnt come on when you press the A/C button, then you need to fix the climate control unit.
Check the fuses. If they are all good, then doing this will probably fix it. I am soldering the pins.
thanks!
not sure what you mean....if you mean the 2 bulbs on top, then it doesnt matter which side they go on
check fuses, check freon, check compressor clutch. what exactly isnt working on it?
Where do I find the 2 bulbs
+sonic5773 probably ebay, amazon, or a honda dealer
or junk yard... Usually accords & civics from that era use similar bulbs(in case you don't find a prelude). Take one of yours as sample ;)
1blisslife Yea that's true, you can get handfuls of them. I'm a junkyard dog too, I don't know why I didn't think of that at the time.
Well an explanation would have been great lol.
awesome
the shifter console has to come out, then the radio trim, then the radio bezel, then you can get to the screws to take the climate control out. i cant make a video on that, i haven't had a prelude in 3 years lol...maybe i could make a picture video, i have pictures
what was your issue?
yea it's all fixed. funny thing is that i fixed it by getting angry and banged on the system and walla, it went back to normal. however, in the long run i think this would be a better fix
thats hard to explain......find my "climate control removal picture video" and you can see a picture of how the cable connects.
I dont know...check all the electrical components of the AC system. Check all the other fuses.
Not all heroes wear capes
Ok thanks
yep
Its just a flat head driver to get the light bulbs out. You're welcome and thanks for watching! Hit the subscribe button if you like!
yea
@soccerlad7 yea
All I have is a flickering problem
+sonic5773 do this repair, it will stop flickering
did this and it still doesn't work.. >_
this bullshit is not accurate for my 94 Si, ended up breaking the damned front panel. beware
