That's pretty ironic considering DKII shipped horribly un-optimized with game breaking bugs, all the while being uglier than DKI with terrible map design that felt more puzzle-like than DKI's more open ended design. DKI fans disliked DKII, late Bullfrog was shit, but I guess because the game is old it's time to be nostalgic about a busted piece of shit.
To be honest i've never played dk1 but i do consider dk2 a masterpiece of that era.I didnt encounter any bugs ( i don't say there aren't)and i do enjoy playing a skirmish from time to time. They also released theme hospital that was a great game that i do enjoy playing every 2-3 years. For my personal point of view, when you enjoy playing a game straight 26 years it means that someone did his job right. And there are many examples from that era (duke nukem3D,C&C,warcraft,doom,pandora directive etc). Nostalgia is a factor i agree on that.

The level design sucks shit, the game is ugly as fuck, it isn't nearly as atmospheric, the humor is completely unfunny, and controlling the game feels like utter ass compared to DKI, sluggish, unresponsive sewage, typical 90s 3D jank, especially in possession mode. It was worse in every way, and its short dev time is exceedingly obvious. Sorry I don't suck down every retro game like it's golden nectar simply because it's older, some old games were just shit.
Exactly. WotO also has a story that sort of loosely follows the plot of DK2. Also, it really is very good AND probably the best spiritual successor we will ever get.
