    a bad amp will make every guitar sound bad. a good amp separates the good from the bad guitars. so playing these through a bad amp does not help you decide which guitar is better.

    Interesting to see such a 50/50 split regarding which amp people liked the best. Its what I love the most about this industry - there really is no right or wrong when it comes to guitars, amps & tone. Its all about what the individual likes.

    Good video. Always love when you guys give your scoring/honest opinion. I think that's a big reason why people watch these videos, keep up the good work!
    My vote is for the Blackstar tone on this one, warmer and fuller (less brittle sounding than the JVM- at these settings anyways).
    I know you guys get suggestions all the time, but here is another: my vote is for a video review on the new Jackson pro series DK2MHT or DK2MQHT (hard tail versions).
    Thanks guys!

    I've just bought a JS12, my 8th electric guitar, and it is a fantastic guitar. I was messing around in a shop trying out a few PRS SEs and tried a number of Jackson models, as I've never played one before. The neck and fret work is amazing at any price, but I agree with Chappers that you have to find the one that you like in the shop, as they are not all the same. I used it with my band at the weekend, playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Boss GT100 and it sounded awesome, as good as any of my other more expensive guitars. The controlled feedback was really unexpected when playing overdrive sounds and it stayed in tune amazingly throughout the rehearsal. I play pop/rock style, so don't think it can only play metal. It is far more versatile than that

      Ian Barnes Hi m planning to buy js12, I'm wondering if it stays in tune after using the tremolo..

      i've bought one a week ago. a js22 dinky. arch top, maple fretboard with "12-"16 compound radius. 209€ for it at thomann. best cheap guitar i ever got my hands on. can't compare to my fender strat or ibanez s series in terms of quality, but damn, that's a good instrument for the money. very good playability, and it only needed some minor adjusting of the intonation and action when i got. it even was in tune when i got it out of the box.

  • @niklasroos
    @niklasroos 10 років тому +2

    My first electric guitar was a Jackson Dinky, but maybe one step up from these. The problem was it had a Floyd Rose copy on it. Not the smartest choice for a beginner, but I didn't know better. But it served me well for 1.5 years at least. The one quality issue was the nut needed to be filed down a bit. I kept on breaking my high e-string all the time and didn't know why. Well, at least the music store fixed it when I brought it in after first blaming me for not restringing it properly which was a bit unnecessary.

  • @goodbeef13
    @goodbeef13 10 років тому +25

    They say that these guitars have their issues but sound good for very little money. I think that's the important thing. In all honesty, the best feeling guitar (not sounding, but feeling) guitar i've ever played is an Epiphone special Les Paul which costs $129! I could spend $300 bucks on some new pickups and it should sound ridiculous and my total investment would still be really little in guitar terms. So just because something is cheap doesn't mean its bad. In fact, there are a lot of expensive guitars I've picked up and hated the feel of.

    • @DEZZA12
      @DEZZA12 10 років тому

      what do you think about the feeling of an epiphone les paul standard does it compare to the special you played?

    • @goodbeef13
      @goodbeef13 10 років тому

      The trouble with the epiphone standard is that its a gloss neck, which can feel really good or really bad. If u find a good one i think its an excellent guiitar, even before considering its great value. The finish on the back of my special's neck is the best feeling neck i've ever played. However, it's basswood which isn't great, but it sounds great. If you upgrade the pickups, it sounds ridiculously good. SO all the special's fell teh same which is a great feel. But a standard with a good feeling neck is better as a whole.

    • @DEZZA12
      @DEZZA12 10 років тому

      did you try gibsons?? because what you say is wierd , everybdoy says gibsons feel much better than epiphones

    • @goodbeef13
      @goodbeef13 10 років тому

      again its the gloss neck thing, if its a good glossed neck it feels better than the epiphone, but a bad gloss, i hate the feel of no matter what name is on the headstock.

    • @DEZZA12
      @DEZZA12 10 років тому

    this is my first guitar, bought it around 2 years ago, dropped it once and it was in perfect condition, didn't break, definitely recommend this to beginners, only problem is that the screws are a bit too difficult to remove and very difficult to screw in, so it's difficult to fix a strap

    • @OddTimeMan
      @OddTimeMan 9 років тому +54

      Most of your overall sound comes from your amp, not your guitar. An inexpensive guitar played through a really nice all-tube amp will sound really good, but a really nice high-end guitar played through a transistor practice amp won't sound that good.

    • @sharkpyro93
      @sharkpyro93 9 років тому +65

    • @OddTimeMan

    I've said it before and I'll say it again.
    Jackson, Schecter, and Ibanez are hands down the best bang for the buck and better than most higher end guitars. My Jackson DKMG has become my go-to guitar.
    My Jackson JS30RR FR plays better than pretty much any mid or low level epiphone, squier, fender, ltd/esp.
    And my Jackson Kelly PS-6T has been modded so far that it's pretty much a KE5 with a bolt on. Which puts most guitars to shame.
    You can't go wrong with Jackson.

      +GabrielTheGuitarist AMEN, I have always played Jacksons, Started with the custom shop in 84, have bought 6 over the years, all made in U.S.A. A very under-rated guitar company, sad they sold out to overseas, ones in 85 were just as $$$$ as the few custom ones the remaining shop puts out now. My main Jackson is sn# under 6500 made in U.S.A. dinky still rocks, but now just in Church ;-)

    Take in account that in countries like mine (Colombia), they´re not as cheap as u might get in the UK; basically, we earn lots less than u do, and to buy those guitars we need to save some money. Furthermore, the shipping and taxes makes those guitars more expensive if we convert the price in our coin (COP) to your coin. Just wanted to share that part of the story with u guys.

      +Dat Roll We had Tagima and Giannini before, but their guitars are not in any way as good as Jacksons, Fenders and whatnot... Anyway, their guitars are manufactured in China now, and they're similar to cheaper Condors. Good guitars are a lot more expensive here than in US, Britain, but if you need/want a real nice one you have no choice. We earn less here and things are three times more expensive than abroad. It's amazing how nice inexpensive guitars are now. When I was a kid back in the 60's & 70's, inexpensive guitars were crap. Now, you can get a really well-made, decent-sounding, playable guitar for just a couple hundred bucks...thanks in part to CNC machines. I just bought a brand-new Jackson JS32TQ Dinky for LESS than $300 including tax & Jackson gig bag. Nice guitar! And I completely agree with others below who say MOST of your overall tone comes from your AMP, not your guitar. So spend most of your money on a nice amp!

    So my dad (I’m 22) gratefully hooked me up with a electric guitar for my 22nd Bday and he chose this Jackson (white) and he spent all day I guess choosing, he tried every guitar under $600 (roughly). I strongly believe just as is metals materials as other manufactured materials etc properties are extremely different when manufactured in different environments. So when it comes to “Mediocre” guitars the best way to choose is to have an experienced player (my dads played for over 40 years and he’s great, nothing amazing but def knows tone) play the guitar, and then choose the guitar not by brand or make etc. And I ended with this Jackson in the Vid and I love it, I have a vox mini 3 G2 and after adjusting with pickups it has an amazing clean tone. Distortion not so good but overall very solid, even comparable to his custom les Paul in terms of enjoyment

    I picked up the metallic blue Dinky for cheap road trip guitar. Man, I was surprised! The neck is awesome for any type of genre you want to play. The body is gorgeous and feels great. I would put this up against any $500 axe. The only flaws was that my Volume pot did not spin on center (like in this vid) and the Tone pot was harder to turn. Deox spray fix that, and I tweaked the Volume pot to center it better. The pots are stamped 500k and the pups are not bad - 7.91 ohms ceramics, but I would prefer Alnico 2's. The nut was catching G and B strings (fairly common on all guitars) Nut Sauce fixed that. I find that the low strings especially low E has a dark-flat sound probably from the cheap trem block but not bad for metal tones. The tuners are totally POS and PIA to tune. All in all, after doing a setup and intonation I am afraid to just throw it in the car for a road trip. I will place it very gently in with a gig bag. You won't find a better guitar for the money! PERIOD!

I would only order a guitar unseen from Sweetwater because they check out the guitar's neck, frets, electronics, etc. before they ship it. No tax and free shipping. I am very happy, still, with my JS11. I got rid of the dark sound on E string by just changing to new strings. But it's up to you to choose.

    When I started playing about 7 years ago, I didn't want a used guitar, as I had absolutely no idea what I was looking for. I ended up buying a piece of crap from argos for £110. If this was around, compared to my old piece of crap, it'd be a no brainer. And thats exactly the market Jackson are aiming for.

The pickups are passive and kind of weak, yet when you just turn everything up to 11 they sound very nice. The neck is definitely shredder fast and easy to play. I've got Floyd Rose licensed locking trem and it stays in tune. I want to sell it 'cause I've gotten a couple better guitars now, but just can't get enough money for it to make it worth my time.

    I've only ever come across a couple of cheap guitars I didn't like, but for the most part, they can be really good shit if you keep them clean, maintained, and properly set up. I've got a Peavey Raptor EXP that's one hell of an instrument, and I only spent $40CDN for it (which I believe is a price of a coffee in the UK), and it stays in tune (even with some whammy abuse), has pretty good sounding pickups (H-S-S configuration), and has better fretwork than some of my more expensive guitars.
