I'm not surprised. For the last 1-2 years I was in a band I used the Electro-Harmonix 44 Caliber pedal power amp with my modeler in to a Mesa 4x12. I was competing with the volume of a drummer, bass player and 2 other guitar players. The other 2 guitar players had tube amps, Engl Savage and an EVH 5150 (50 watt). I had plenty of volume and I thought the 44 Caliber was pretty clean sounding, just turned the bright switch on. Good time to be a guitar player.
My big amps are great but lately I've been gigging with a pedal board setup just like with pedals from This Heavy Earth: boost, preamp and poweramp. It works and sounds great.
Great vids john. I'm on a budget , and leave it up to recording engineer friend to do the DAW work. I usually focus on the guitar gear for now. Thanks.
Holy F... this is exactly what I was looking for... a year ago. But I might still get it. I now have a Amptweaker Depthfinder (for presence + resonance knobs) into a Mooer Depth Bomb (30watt power-amp pedal). It gets fed by a Victory tube-preamp amps. I've been looking for a 'poweramp simulation' (kind of sag, presence + resonance, impedance curve) but in the analog domain. There are some preamp pedals that have something built in, but finding it standalone ahs proven difficult. I have given up on it so now I have a digital poweramp sim + IR at the end of my chain to go into a FRFR cab, and haven't used my normal guitar amp since. This might kick it back into action :). Hughes & Kettner Stompman is also on the list though (you did a video on that as well :)).
Would be nice to hear a comparison between this power amp and the Seymour Duncan and a tube power amp(or return of a tube head). It sounded good in the mix but a little muddy on the playthrough.. then again, it could be I'm being a tube snob😂... Hearing with our eyes instead of ears.
I understand the pedal adjusts to basically whatever power you feed it but what are the amperage requirements for 60W? 30W? Etc… I know the other John Browne ran his at 240mA and only got around 4 watts. Lichtlaerm doesn’t have this info on their site yet as far as I can tell.
@@danielringl8501 check out ‘the other John Browne’s vid on this pedal around the two minute mark he discusses power supplies and how he was running 18v at 250ma and getting around 4.5 watts
What is more useful than the power rating is its dB. A dB meter is as cheap as $25.00 USD on AliExpress including shipping. If the amp can hit 95dB it will keep up with a drummer in a Rock trio. Anything but dB with a type C amp means nothing.
Would it be correct to assume that this pedal does NOT do the power amp OD thing but is pure clean power over the entire volume range? i noticed that there is no gain knob and that you played it on 2 the whole time so that's where my assumption comes from...I'm one of those louder(tonally) is better apologists so for me the preamp od always plays a support role for the power amp od. imho there is really NO excuse for a pedal power amp or solid state amp or whatever to not simulate the sound of a cranked power section and have a separate gain control to set it how you want...just my 2 cents... sounded good though
You're just a hack and a crazy one at that. If you want power tube distortion, get a tube amp and an attenuator. These are class D power amps, they are not meant to clip, why would you want your class D power amp to have its own distortion circuit? You make no sense and that would just be stupid to make.
Your asinine comment just tells me you understand nothing about what you just babbled about. This is a class D power amp, these are meant to be CLEAN. You're just throwing random terminology that doesn't apply to this type of product. If you want TUBE power amp distortion, you need to get it LOUD, so to deal with it, get a tube power amp, crank it and use an ATTENUATOR.
@@danielringl8501 No... your head is stuck in the Tube Amp paradigm. There is no law that states EQ must be on the preamp. Indeed there are other power amp pedals that include Bass Mid Treble. If I'm using analog pedals in front and they have good EQ control or I have an EQ pedal, I'm good, but with a modeler or profiler (which I'd be using), it's a pain in the ass to access those controls, and often just want a quick set of main knobs to ensure the overall tonality is quickly adjusted for all tones to adapt to the room. This was a miss if they wanted to make life easier for folks using modelers or profilers.
@@Guitarman007rename the presence control to TREBLE, rename the resonance control to BASS, you're just "missing" a mids control. Just to educate yourself a bit further, check the difference between traditional Fender or Marshall type "TMB" passive tone stacks, versus other types of tone stacks, especially the active type. I don't know what type of tone stacks they are using here, but a "2 knob" active baxandall EQ can be more powerful at shaping tone than a "3 knob" Fender/Marshall passive EQ.
@@JohnWiku Yeah, I'm aware and yes always possible, but when he was demo'ing the controls I heard more difference in the high end than the low end, which means the low end is likely very low, probably similar to the Depth control of my Fryette Power Station. While it's great to have, it's not quite the range of low end I usually need to accommodate differences in room environments, but wouldn't know till I tried, but def need that mid control to quickly adjust while I'm playing if necessary.

What a time to be alive as a guitar player
My "high gain" setup is exactly an Aquaria into a Gehenna, so this is the most accurate pedal/amp demo I'm ever going to see! Thank you!

So happy i invested in the cioks DC7 .. this is a game changer!
Incredible music in every video Jon does.
Thank you!
Sounds great! That riff at the 1:11 is nasty 🔥🤘🏻
Holy Crow! That sounds epic as hell dude. Love it and the Valiant Jupiter is really nice. Always wanted to see one in a metal setting.
Thanks! Love the Jupe
Sounded great!
Damn. Awesome riffs. As always.
Thanks!
I’m a stereotypical bedroom guitarist, but have been thinking about getting some analog stuff, and this seems like this is what I would want.
A 1x12" is loud, no matter the wattage you pump in it. Just so you know 😉.
Sick company producing incredible pedals!!!! Sounds so good!!!! Will be ordering one for sure. Cheers!
Love the videos, man. Content is well produced, clear, to the point, and well paced. Thanks for the effort!
Thank you!
Cool product..and mixes are sick👍🏻

🔥 Another good one
I'm still hung up on that iso-cab. That thing is a game changer without a doubt.
Sounds good eh? If I use the word game changer people will get mad, but it certainly has had a profound impact on my sound and workflow! I love it :)
You should definitely check out the sE Electronic V7x as a speaker microphone!
Did you try it with a bass setup?
Awesome video as always BTW 👍 thx!
I haven't tried it with a bass, no
Poweramp in a pedal? That is sick.
Hell yeah man!
Not very new, there are a few of them, like the EHX Magnum, the Harley Benton GPA 100...
But this one is interesting

Can you do a video , just playing through a quality high end gain amp / with a few effects in a live rig demo , with no DAW ?

Please run HX Stomp into this into iso cab
Do you think it would be loud enough to rehearse with a drummer using it with a preamp pedal and directly into a 4x12?
@LB-pp7pu yes, but be sure to use a 24v power supply for maximum headroom
@@SonicDriveStudio Ok, thanks!
How do you think it would pair with a quad cortex?
Ive been following you for a while, and the the guitar never sounded as good as it does in this video.
Thank you! Imagine how good this pedal is!
Sounds huge but is it loud enough with heavy hitter drummer and full band without house monitors
Yeah, it's loud! Be sure to use a power supply that can handle the wattage though
@SonicDriveStudio cool thank you great video as usual 👍🏼
So would you say class D is finally starting to sound good?
Well as you can hear, this one sounds really good!
