- Matthew, the tax collector, had a mind unlike any other, yet he chose to use it for the glory of himself and not for God; it was a logical choice, and he was shunned and hated by his own family and people for his actions. But when the "impossible" happened before him, his reality crumbled, and every fundamental ideal in his life regarding people and power became meaningless. He had a destiny for greatness, but if no one would remember his name, then what was the point of his wealth and power amongst his people?

My favorite sequence with Matthew is with the kids on the roof. How they invite him up, he rejects their offer of grapes (heard the offer/refusal was ad libbed), then he reaches for the grapes while completely engrossed in the healing, and the final " Are you lost?" "Yes, I am" followed by his longing gaze at Jesus. Just beautiful.

This is my favorite scene too!
It’s so subtle. The kids were told in an earlier scene by Jesus to be kind to one another because it is bigger than what their trade will be. It will be there bigger job in life. They may have been aware he was a tax collector by his clothes or how others were treating him in the crowd. Yet their simple act of faith in what Jesus said to treat others kindly showed a child’s faith succeeded where an adult’s failed. Hence the verse “if you want to get into Heaven, you need faith like a child.”
The subtlety of this show is amazing. Maybe this message was not their intent, if not; then it was Holy Spirit since it is obvious he is behind this show. I feel it every time I watch it: in the performance, the landscapes, the details.
He later eats out of the same bowl the little boy is eating out
Matthew's reaction when Jesus called his name.. it's like he was hit by something, and requires his full attention.. then Jesus looked at him and never let go of that gaze... the eye contact... beautiful.
when simon asked, "do you even know him" and Jesus said, "yes, i know him" that spoke astronomical volumes...of course he knew him, even before he was birthed or conceived, God knew him.
Isn’t that beautiful!?! GOD loves us SO much. He sent Jesus to die and rise 3 days later to save us from our sins.

My son is 20yrs old. He has lived in the autism spectrum for 15yrs. Matthew is the first person my son has ever connected with. I can witness to my son through Matthew's story. He asked me why I came to Christ. I said watch Matthew's eyes when Jesus turns & looks at him. Jesus gets me. The line "Get used to different" was a breakthrough for my son. My son is asking important questions on Faith, Healing, Belief. I go to scripture & we pray. Oh by the way, his theme song is "Trouble". Thank you Chosen

Everyone's fav, bcos we all are in one way or the other queer, and we know it ourselves. It gives me hope and solace, if Jesus chose and loved Mathew just as he was, I too could be loved with all my frailties.

Not to make sin okay, i.e. stay in darkness, but for the light to shine the light on the darkness and expose the sin, that one might be broken about their sin and selfishness and turn from following the devil and instead start following the light who is Jesus. Jesus said in the gospel of John: "Go and sin no more" and "now stop sinning else a worse thing happen to you" and "the world cannot hate you but it hates me because I testify that its ways are evil".

Wow, this video made me realise the truth about how much Matthew gave up to follow Jesus! I have watched The Chosen but, for some reason, watching this video made me understand a little bit more about this real life character who chose to become a disciple of Jesus and who eventually wrote the gospel which has changed the lives of so many people around the world! He couldn't have made such an impact so great, if he remained who he was then. This shows how much of an impact we can make in the world today if we choose to leave the temporary things that give us pleasure in this world, and follow Jesus the Eternal King!
The character Matthew plays is that no matter what you have ..you are still nothing and empty without the LORD......it all shows when he says to his escort boldly ...LET ME GO......😭😭😭.....
This is my favorite scene. Cause I experienced the same thing. Being hated by everyone, being abused, used and people keep bringing up the wrong thing I did in the past and Jesus calls me and still accepted me even what other think about me. That is love. Jesus choose me and call me to follow Him no matter what I am in the eyes of other but Jesus see me beyond others can see.
I love how he gets a fright and steps back when Jesus turns around and calls his name. He is so shocked 😲 😄

His burial place is called St.Thomas Mount. The Christians in this area call ourselves as 'St.Thomas Christians' to this day. We have a 2000+ years Christian tradition. St.Thomas had built 7-and-a-half churches here. They are very holy pilgrimage sites, especially for Catholics.

What a fabulous compilation! Matthew's story is one of my favorites (Nicodemus is the other)! His journey is so moving! I really felt for him and I applaud the actor's skill as well as the writers and directors for their work in bringing this character to life. Before this series we had heard nothing about Matthew save that he wrote the Book of Matthew in the Bible and that he was a tax collector whom Jesus called to follow him.
Check out Rembrants beautiful painting of him. He probably wrote two gospels - one of which was lost.
He was probably murdered in Ethiopia (stabbed). When that happened....he must have looked up and seen all his freinds - and then one freind in particular....
Gaius doesn’t have a crush on Matthew. He sees him as a son. Knowing that he is not well received by his parents he also has admiration and respect for Matthews intellect. He makes Matthew a great mentor to reduce the anguish Matthew has because of his parents disdain for his position. Both are great characters in the story line. Beloved, Thanks so much!!

This is why The Chosen is so good .Paras Patel represents Autism very well .As a lover of Jesus and an Autist , the idea of one of the Apostles being at least a bit like me , called specifically for the person he is and not despite who he is ... it matters a lot to me .Not only being seen as a Human and person worthy of respect but even chosen , loved and desired by God as I am .
Although Biblically , culturally and Historically , I identify farm more with James and John .

Paras Patel's portrayal is exquisite and excellent, which might only be surpassed by the material given to act out.
Matthew KNEW something was "Different", because there was "Impossible Math" at work... He needed to "Get Use To Different"... And when Jesus called him, Matthew HAD to go with Him!!! Psalm 51:17 - The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
