- We had a major change of plans on our Roadkill build. We decided we were not going to be able to complete the Duster in time without cutting the car up. So, we opted to find something else... here's what we found!

Just to clarify some things…
We bought the truck, it was not a gift. And the people we bought it off, did not build it. It was built the way it is a long time ago.
If you really want to sell the gold Dakota I might be interested 🥹
That motor may look like a inline 6. But Jeff Tommy and allison that there motor mounts slanted. It's a slant inline 6 with compound turbos
Not to mention it was built mostly in driveways, under carports and a 85+ year old building Lol.
I think y'all made the right decision.

In the short time-line, I'd focus on making it run not making the interior factory or pretty or any other cosmetic things. I know Jeff's a perfectionist and so am I but your time-line sure is shrinking!
Acting too much like Bill
Mr Bill worries about the appearance because he doesn't actually race his cars his cars are street cars that can perform at the drag strip. They are building a car specifically for the drag strip and unfortunately are worried about the cosmetic s*** and then have Jeff over there trying to meticulously remove parts to make $5 at the swap meet over the next 5 years. There seems to be no urgency and they've probably spent half their budget or at least 5 to 8K on three vehicles two of which are useless in this situation and who's looking to buy those vehicles to recoup their money in this time frame? They still have some pretty expensive components to buy and install/fabricate and plum and they are working with Jeff who took years to swap in a factory motor a carburetor a radiator and a fuel tank with a basic two-wire fuel pump with a MSD box In other words very minimal s*** and also Jeff ain't been faster than maybe mid fives and the 8th and is tasked with building a fast truck. When the builder of probably one of the fastest as close to factory s10s Mr Bill and then the guy that continued it Billy Jr or a phone call away and all their expertise and knowledge is being ignored. Pack that s*** up bring it to the hoskins new building and rock and roll. I mean Tommy and Allison have zero experience building cars. So without Jeff they're kind of s*** Creek and with only Jeff they're still up s*** Creek. And not only that they haven't uploaded one single productive video about this project when I would be grinding out daily uploads if I could showing the progress on this build considering the possibilities that this invitation could lead them to especially if they go out there that night and actually put down a decent time. At the rate they're at they're going to have a car slower than what that Dakota could run the year it came out

Not to mention factory interior = heavy and with that little power it’s gonna be who can stuff that required engine and trans in a shopping cart has the advantage type of race

Don't worry about aesthetics right now, keep it as light as possible, and you can make it pretty later! Lol get that drivetrain in it first! Good luck!

Step 1 is making it work. No need to worry about how it looks. I’d paint that hood and send it. Grind the welds on the cage that suck and go back over it. It might not even be fast enough to need it.
@mandagrath that doesn't change how terrible the welds are. That's how a driver gets hurt or worse if it crashes. There are welders and then there are people that can use a welder to make 2 pieces of metal stick together, and they're not the same.

Nice work guys. Cant wait to see this finished! Being the OG owner and builder, it shows the truck has seen many hands after me. It's crazy to see that the hood is off alignment. It was damn near perfect when I put it on lol. Anyways this truck was built by a young man with a 38,000/year job and lots of debt.
What was the original combo?
@@Forcefed2002 Original 318 stroked to a 390. Ported iron Hughesd heads and 11:1 CR built for nitrous. All forged. Never ended up spraying it. Ran a best aof 11.1 @121 on motor and then the 727 blew to pieces because I put a transbrake in it and did not have a bolt in sprag. Long story. Engine made 455whp/488wtq on VP 110.

What it looks like has nothing to do with speed, however running and driving does! Get it running and driving then worry about the looks you guys have time but no time is ever enough! I dont want to see you guys fail!

Thank you for saving the Duster , from a very bad fate. It didnt need that motor. It needs something , like a Gen 3 Hemi , then it will be whole again.
It's a well crafted if not out dated race car. I'm glad they saved it. Big block would be nice for brackets.

Jeff needs to quit pulling s*** apart so carefully so that he can go sell it at the swap meet these two kids were given a great opportunity and Jeff who took years to build the very basic dart is the one tasked with building this thing when Tommy's dad and brother have probably one of the most consistent trucks in the racing scene and have actually built cars from the ground up and have experience with EFI turbos etc aren't being used and then they spent however much money of their budget on two vehicles that are useless and it's not like people are knocking down their doors to buy that old tan Dakota and the other Dakota back to recoup their finances in a timely manner to be used again in this build I want to see them succeed but man they don't seem to want to see themselves succeed

Same here,, I had a 2000 Club Cab and LOVED IT even though it was a 6 and NOT an R/T. I always told my kids the body of the 2nd gen Dakota is absolute sweet styling genius. The side, the front, the rear views are styling sweetness!

I ove the name, I have had a Clifford in my cars for years. It was a promotional toy for Veternerians in the 80's. I unfortunately lost him several years ago, I have felt lost since then. Go Clifford, Go

Appreciate you all not cutting up that Duster it has a history and it didnt deserve the butchering it would have taken to fit that engine and trans in the time you all have. That Dakota needs some work and TLC but its a way better starting point. Try and focus on what you need you dont have a lot of time if you get caught up with what you want IE full interior you may run out of time. A running driving truck is what you need everything else is gravy and can be worked on after you have it together and working. Food for thought.
I can't think of a better way to spend a Father's Day. I slept all day, which is a close 2nd in my book.

Not attempting to beat a dead horse, worry about the drivetrain and electrical/fuel first. Get it running and driving before you waste time on anything else. If there’s time left over after it’s running and driving have at it.

After this build Tommy is going to be the all around car guy. He is going to have so much knowledge about Mopar, GM, and jeeps it’s not even funny. You should get past pretty and concentrate on function for the event. You can always change the small stuff later. You have an opportunity other's dream of. It would be a shame to show up at the event with the best looking car but can't make a pass because it don't run.
Dodgers can be pretty disappointed to see their 20 grand and their new hurricane twin turbo V6 was put into a old Dakota that isn't capable of running a time faster than what that Dakota ran and its factory trim the year it was released

Allison has what may be the opportunity of her lifetime in her lap.Not just her,but THEY,have worked hard and earned this opportunity.The team needs to focus on time management to get that engine in a vehicle,get that vehicle running, driving,and tested, by a deadline that is very real.This isn't fake TV deadline,this is real.Once it lifts the fronts with time to spare,clean it up and make it pretty.Until then,making a deadline with a running, driving hotrod to race with,or all the effort is wasted.I would say all hands on deck.The SRC crew,Bill Sr,..all of them.She shows up with a race ready vehicle,she has a shot at winning.She doesn't show up at all, well, nobody wants that.

Now you can put the Duster back together and make a great bracket racer for someone. Should have never taken it apart before sizing up the Hemi swap. Hope the Dakota works out.
They did get some things done/undone on the Duster for the future. Brakes are coming and it needed to be rewired.
