  • How to spot a fake Russian shawl. Recently I received a parcel from Russia with some authentic Russian traditional shawls. When I compare them to a Russia shawl what I already had, I realized that my favorite shawl was fake. In this video I will show you all the secrets how you can spot a fake Traditional shawl on the internet or in store. Traditional Russian scarves are manufactured in a small Russian town Pavlovo Posad. Recently, there are a lot of fake products coming to the market. Some fakes are very good, some fakes are really bad. Some fake Russian scarves are cheap, some of them can be more expensive than real. I will show you the smallest details and secrets on authentic Russian shawls, so you can spot a fake by yourself.

    Thank you Elena! I have a few Russian styled scarves that I tie as a headscarf, but it would be great to buy an authentic one. I’m sure it’s great for winter!

    I had a chance to go to Russia several years ago and I regret that I didn't. I hope one day I get the chance to go again. I have always wanted to see St. Petersburg, and to experience the White Nights Festival.

    Elena, Thank you for the very insightful and informational video! I plan to buy one Pavlovoposad scarf soon for everyday use, they go perfect with more folksy style of clothing which I love :) Thanks to you I know how to recognise the real one☺️ They are sooo beautiful, I am a lover of traditional and folk crafts but they are so rare nowadays in the times of cheap fast fashion. We have to cherish them! Best greetings from Poland!

    Hiya Elena. Am glad that you are safe and well. Thank you for another very informative scarf video. I have been wondering about buying an authentic traditional Russian Shawl and how to go about it,so found this video of how to spot a fake one very interesting. I would love to go Pavlovo Posad and buy one from where they are actually manufactured. Would I be able to go if I visited Russia or is it off the tourist trail. As always lots of headscarf wearing wishes from your scarf wearing friend Headscarf.

      Hi Headscarf! I hope that you will be able to go to Russia soon. Pavlovo Posad is about 1 hour on the car from Moscow. There is a museum about Russian shawls, and as far as I know they have a masterclass for printing your own scarf. It should be very interesting, I will try to find out if they have English guided visits. If you wont be able to go there there is a few stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg that have only Pavlovo Posad shawls. Stay safe! The best headscarf wearing wishes from your scarf wearing friend Elena.

    I really like your videos! I wish I could get one of these shawls, but I'm allergic to wool. Do they make cotton or silk versions?

    • @howtotieascarf7840
      @howtotieascarf7840  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, they do! They have very good silk shawls. The cotton scarves are not so good, you need to be very careful when washing, they can color other fabrics. Wool and silk are good.

    I got a second hand Pavlovo Pasad shawl and they removed all the tags so I couldn’t verify anything. In addition to the tags missing, it didn’t have the rose/diamond stamp so I was hesitant to say it was real. But just the color/depth quality and the beautiful, WELL-DONE knitted fringe makes me think it’s real. I’m still not 100% sure because this is the first time I’ve had or handled one, but I’m fairly certain it’s real, just an older one. If it is a fake, I think it’s a near- perfect one 😅

    • @howtotieascarf7840
      @howtotieascarf7840  5 місяців тому

      If the fringes are within the same distance as mine( real scarf), it should be good. Fakers have different fringes, or the distance is not the same. :)

    When did they start putting those stamps on the corner of the scarf? None of my scarves from the early 90s have a stamp. The wool fringe is different too. I bought them all in Russia.

    • @howtotieascarf7840
      @howtotieascarf7840  Рік тому

      No worries! The designs from 90th and earlier cannot have the stamp. It was added to the new designs, I believe, after 2000. I don't remember the exact date. The wool fringes look really different. :)

    I purchased my very large wool shawls from a Russian import store in Sacramento, California back in 1999. A reputable store. I hand washed one of them and the heavy wool trim does not hang straight any longer. I tried brushing the strands, but still they are not straight. Is there something that I can do to fix them? Thank you

      Hi Kimberly. Yes, it's can happened with natural wool unfortunately. You can try to iron it through a damp cotton cloth. Elena

      @@howtotieascarf7840 Thank you Elena for the information. I had thought of possibly ironing the fringe, but did not think of the damp cloth. I will try that. Spashiba!

    Now you left me confused! I brought ones from Russia imported ones (the package had an Russian address and the air parcel had the Russian stamps etc) the seller told me it was viscose mixed with wool it was 120cmX120cm. Now I brought another one which is 100% wool and it has all the characteristics of a real scarve like the one you mentioned in the video it has the bar code, the artist’s name, and the factory’s name but the seller said it was 140cmX140cm but on the tag it says 146cmX146cm. So now I’m definitely more confused!

    • @howtotieascarf7840
      @howtotieascarf7840  4 роки тому

      Thank you for your comment, Michell Saad. I am sorry to say that, but wool + viscose is 100% fake, 120 x 120 cm is fake. It's made in China or Turkey. and imported to Russia. The size 146 x 146 is correct. If you want, you can send me a picture of the second scarf, and it's tags and I will check the consistency of the tags and design. Elena
