- Tutorial; Using the Makiwara traditionally, for practice of 'Kime' (focus) of the karate strike or blow. Every section of martial arts I study is for practical use. This is the same in using the Makiwara - Narutake - If Possible!

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve ever learned was this from you during your closed makiwara class Sensei. 🙏🏻
thank you sean :-)
Really great advice, all of it. I've heard too much "tough guy" stuff over the years. Callused knuckles, bloody knuckles, punch it a thousand times a day...it puts a lot of people off to say the very least. I shall put these ideas into practice, starting tonight.
Thank you Jason - yes it goes against what is believed or promoted in mainstream which is mainly theatrical publicity for the masses. As i promote training is kept in reality not in Hollywood 👍🤠🙈🙉
Trained under you Pete in the late 1980's at the Eastbourne Road dojo . The whole floor shook when a class practiced their strikes. The emphasis on stomach down focussing all energy at point of impact is something that has stayed with me over 30 years later. Wish there was a Goju Ryu dojo still in Southport. Great and informative video. Thanks
Some time ago that was Hell I was 11.5 stone lol Nice to hear from you - stay safe xx
Pete Mcdowell Was a good time in my life was 1987-1989 life was less complicated then. You called me a loose martial artist,I got to 2nd Kyu . Rudie and Guy were training then and Justine, also Steve Forster. Think Guy got his first black belt not long after. You used to have Doberman dogs back then, quite formiddable. Take care Sensei and stay safe too
@@GuitarG123 great times never forgotten. :-)

Real sensei very good
Thank you i hope this helps your practise
@@PeteWMCD Yes , wished i lived closer. thank you mr Mcdowells
Best instructional video on using a makiwara. Been training for 38 years in martial arts, always used bags and pads. Always thought of using one to help with my training. Like you, I light up (as you say) even when I solo train practicing bunki. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Many thanks for replying, it's nice to know that fellow Budo people understand the real concept.
Amazing Video, Love your style of Teaching cant wait for more Videos, Kata and Weapon Videos would be Great see yiou soon
cheers John keep up the practice :-)
Finally got around to watching the video 😁🙏. Love it Sensei, reminded me of my kime self training when I was younger. I have not had the chance to come up in the last few years. If you have a chance to make a video on how to build the makiwara, that would be brilliant 😎😊 .
cheers bobby - get a joiner to make up the board I don't no where you wish to fit it so lets have a chat maybe on messenger to sort it out
@@PeteWMCD thank you sir, that would be great. It may look like it will be going somewhere in the garden😎
why dont you.terry .alfie. pete. dennis. and all the other guys who knew gary spiers write a book on gary spiers every were i go people saying why hasnet a book been wrote on gary spiers life story we all knew him in liverpool and birkenhead chester thanks pete enjoy your videos
Alas my feeling is that any tales written about Gary would be diverted from fact by the myth that has been attached. Too many folk claiming to know or train with him and adding icing on stories to pump up their connection.
your right there to many claim to know gary and they didnt gary lived with a freind of mine and went with him to sort trouble out a few times in differnt parts of england with gary thats genuine we all knew him in birkenhead and pete wont mention his last name flew his body home to new zeland theres loads claim the went they didnt thanks pete dennis could write the book
