Thanks John & Seth. Those are some beautiful models, normally a little out of my price range, but for such an extremely detailed model I will definitely save up to purchase one of these. Cheers
Thanks for pointing this out. I thought for sure it was in the 90s but you're right that it wasn't a requirement until 2005. What's interesting is that some railroads used the striping on some of their equipment as early as the 1950s according to what I read. It's one of those things that may or may not really be a reliable indication of era, except to say "modern" era in this case.
Nice cars. Scale Trains are still the benchmark for models these days. The scale trains 5188 (Rivet Counter) Covered Hoppers are a cut above these ones easily. eg: The photo etch walkways are all one piece on these models and they should be separate panels, among other missing details as well. Just my thoughts . . . still very nice though. Thanks for sharing them. Cheers. 😁
@ 2:42... concerning the red and blue discharge gate rods... that particular car can be unloaded one of TWO ways... gravity or pneumatic... gravity unloading is for grain, wheat, soybeans, malt etc... pneumatic unloading is for bulk powder/granular material like sugar, flour, starch
Round hatches are for mineral loading. things like Phosphates, Soda Ash, Potash, Dolomite, Pearlite etc etc. It doesn't seem to be as important now as it was, hence the convertible hatches. Round also liked for processed foodstuffs like flour and sugar, tho by weight those commodities usually go in a different sized and configured cars, because of how it flows. And of course the plastics cars have the tiny loading hatches.
I have a few on pre-order I'm excited to get! They will make an excellent addition to my unit UP grain train I'm trying to make! I keep seeing the shipping date push back on their website, though. Any idea when they will officially ship?
I might have totally missed you talking about it, but it's strange the UP ends are so much clunkier than the other two which have very fine grab irons. Must be a pre-production place holder or something. Otherwise the detail is amazing.
Nice model but everything is made of plastic and there isn't enough cars for that product in models. I which some manufacture will make more Plastic pellet covered hoppers. Trinity's 6241, ARI 6250 and the Gunderson now Greenbrier 6250 car. Also tankers are needed. UTLX Panda bear, Multi colored bands, Valve cover modified designs even those with two or more and solid white tankers of various capacities are needed.
Stephen doesn't skimp on the details!!! The new wheels are the rusty ones. I don't know who the guy was that dreamt up the weights per the length was, but it's not how the real one's work. We need to improve this Recommended Practice. When the cars all weigh the same, we don't have to worry about buckling the train with the lighter cars!!!
When someone doing a review doesn't notice a detail (talking about the ribs) that tells me its unecessary, especially if it adds to the cost in the end. Just my opinion.

I think you'll be very happy with it if you do.
Really good looking models. I'm interested in what next road names they offer next.
They are pretty sharp, aren't they?
The conspicuity striping started around 2005, it was mandated by 2010 or 2012, that time frame

We are lucky to have as many good manufacturers as we do!

They weren't sure. Either late this year or early next year.
How does this hopper compared to the rivet counter versions in terms of detail?
What do you think?
@ I wish I had one to compare. What were your thoughts after the review?
I shared my thoughts. I think these are going to be great when they finally ship.

These were production samples.

We're seeing more and more great models coming out all the time.

It's good to know you're paying attention to the details!

It tells me that the person isn't as observant as he thought he might be 😂😂
