I've made it a priority to learn what the Bible teaches about Hell. It's almost never taught. My brother and mother chose to spend eternity in Hell, to reject the Gospel several times...they were turned over to reprobate minds before they descended into Hades, the holding place of torment before the final judgement, the Great White Throne. The Lord told me that's where they went. And I can say that it haunts me almost every day. I think of the torment and and darkness they face forever as I meditate on the story in Luke about the rich man and Lazarus. I often think that they do remember the times I pleaded with them to repent and receive Jesus. My mother said, "I don't believe it " as I presented her the Gospel for the last time before she died. Satan blinds the lost so they can descend into torment with him. When I witness I talk about Hell and make no apologies. The truth will set you free.
R. C. Sproul hit the nail on the head. Preaching on hell has been practically banished from the pulpits today. We really need more fire and brimstone messages in the 21st Century to remind us of the absolute holiness of God and to be thankful He sent us His Son to save us from His wrath.
I just told my daughter a couple weeks ago I was looking for a hellfire preacher. Preachers NOT preaching on hell are the reason everyone thinks we all go to Heaven.
@@MK_337 I love John MacArthur. I listen to all his older sermons and his new ones. I'm actually looking for one within 20 miles of my house. They're hard to find.
Just a reference to a prophecy about such preachers. Acts 20:29 I know that after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among you and will not treat the flock with tenderness, 30 and FROM AMONG YOU you yourselves men will rise and SPEAK TWISTED THINGS to draw away the disciples after themselves. There is no hell fire. Hell is another word for the grave. Even Jesus went to this hell when he died.

@@tongakhan230 Did you listen to the sermon? It does not seem like it since he clearly points to the verses about the eternality of hell. Where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. This has been the orthodox position of the Church for centuries and more importantly what Jesus taught and what the scriptures teach. As he said in the sermon, I don't like it but it's true.

What is the difference if I might ask? The RCC borrowed this hell fire teaching from pagan sources. These charlatans just parrot it. Isn't it a case of 'from the frying pan into the fire'?
@@tongakhan230 Jesus spoke of hellfire and everlasting torment more than any prophet or apostle in the Bible. Just because you don’t believe it, doesn’t mean it’s not true. What fixed my doubt as to the legitimacy of the word, was a pretty simple principle. And it goes like this: What is the MOTIVE behind it? I always ask that question. When the RCC ruled the world with an iron hand and a ready bic lighter, they taught the horrors of hell and used it to cause fear. But since the Protestant reformation, they have backtracked on the clear teaching of hell in favor of a user friendly version of Christianity that includes lies like purgatory. What then was their motive for changing it up? I suggest that they wanted to maintain legitimacy and their place on top of the religious world. So then, we ask, “What is RC Sproul’s motive? Could it be that he believes it to be true and wants to be faithful to God whatever the cost? Most importantly, what is the motive of the Bible as a whole? What people group is exalted above another by it? Christians are counted as sheep for the slaughter and are told to love their enemies. We are taught to share wealth and be benevolent, and after we accomplish all that is asked of us, we are told that we are unprofitable servants. 😩. The Jews fare none better. Their history and the character of the average Jewish tribe is generally a who’s who of miserable failure and indifference towards God. I argue that the Bible is true because man would not have written it. Not on his best day. It came from a different source.

Even in regular evangelical churches, too many people are living their best lives now because their pastors don’t want to chase them off with sermons about salvation and hell. It’s so tragic. In 1983, a Christian friend gave me a John MacArthur sermon on a cassette. The topic was hell. It got my attention. I wanted to know more. Years later, when I think of people I know and love, or acquaintances, or people I pass on the street, my complete belief in a literal hell and their potential doom, certainly drives me to constant prayer for them and a need to tell them the truth.

That is true. The more we speak about hell and the lake of fire, the more obvious it becomes just how perverted a religion Christianity is. My inner atheist fully approves this message.
Amen Sproul. We need to teach about hell with more care, whatever it takes to ingrain this doctrin into the minds of men. May we cling to The Lord and His many mercies. God bless you all.

@harry balls5150 : The bible does dent the trinity. There is no need for another book to do so. 'No man has SEEN God at ANY TIME.' - 1 John 4:12. That means NEVER. Unless Jesus was never seen by John and others, this rules out Jesus being God at any time or in any form. Hope this helps.
@harry balls5150 : Jesus is the best source to ask if he was God or not. He should know. Let us ask Jesus. Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, MY GOD, MY GOD, why hast thou forsaken me? John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to MY GOD, and your God. Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of MY GOD, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of MY GOD, and the name of the city of MY GOD, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from MY GOD: and I will write upon him my new name. The above quotes are from the 'unadulterated' KJV. May I ask as to who Jesus' God is? I've come across some illogical explanations of Jesus being 100% God or 100% human to explain away his statements as a human depending on which dilemma props up. The 2nd and 3rd examples cannot be explained away in this way. In the 2nd example, Jesus spoke AFTER being resurrected by God. He was no longer a human but a spirit being. In the 3rd example, Jesus is BACK IN HIS HEAVENLY GLORY when he makes such a statement. This is better than taking some words of Paul and giving it a twist to fit an agenda. Will there be an answer forthcoming? This isn't to belittle anyone. This is an aid to reason in order to ascertain the truth..
@harry balls5150 : Jesus didn't show himself in 500 different places at the same time. 1 Corinthians 15:5 and that he appeared to Ce′phas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that he appeared to more than 500 BROTHERS AT ONE TIME, most of whom are still with us, though some have fallen asleep in death. Being an angel once more, Jesus took on DIFFERENT human forms to be seen. Each time no one recognized him until he spoke. KJV Mark 16:12 After that he appeared in ANOTHER FORM unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. Jesus is the one who spoke to Paul (Saul) not God. Acts 9:4........“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” 5 He asked: “Who are you, Lord?” He said: “I am JESUS, whom you are persecuting. This is an aid to understanding what the scriptures actually teach. God has a people today who teach the truth. I am learning it from them. Is there an answer to my earlier question? Who is Jesus' God? If there isn't, do not worry. Jesus' God is the same God as his disciples' God (John 20:17).

@@tongakhan230 I'm not sure you understand symbolism. I mean, I'm not sure you understand how symbolism works. Your reasoning as to why Christ would be a liar is hyperspecific and far too literal. Not only do you completely miss the point, you also don't understand what metaphor is.
If you believe that the wages for sin is eternal suffering in a place called hell, and you also believe that Christ took your punishment upon himself. Doesn’t this mean that Christ would be required to suffer in a place called hell for as long as you were required to do so? If the punishment for the unsaved was conscious eternal suffering in a place called hell, then why does the Bible tell us that Christ’s soul was not left in hell? Psalm 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. If therefore Christ was not left in hell, then his punishment had an end. This of course, presents a big problem if you believe that the penalty for our sins is suffering without end in a place called hell. But if you understand that the wages of sin is death and not eternal conscious suffering in a place called hell, then harmony with the scriptures begins to take place. Romans 6:23 For the wages (the payment) of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Death is the payment for sins that the law of God has always required. Therefore, death is the payment that Christ had to pay on behalf of the sins of his elect. And death is the payment all of the non-elect have to pay for their own sins. Upon death, an unsaved individual ceases to exist because his soul was dead already at the moment of conception, therefore, upon the death of the body, that individual is dead forever and has ceased to exist, or as the Bible puts it, that individual has perished. This is why John 3:16 gives us the contrast of either living forever or perishing, which means that they cease to exist. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Christ indeed took upon himself the punishment required by the law of God and died for the sins of his chosen people, but unlike the non-elect which have no power over death, Christ (who is Almighty God) could satisfy the demands of His own law by dying and then raising himself from the dead. Thus, God righteous demand for the sins of the elect was satisfied and so, Christ did indeed take our punishment upon himself, but it wasn’t conscious suffering for an eternity in a place called hell, else He would still have to be there, but rather, it was death. The doctrine of death being the payment for sins and not eternal suffering, teaches us that God’s punishment for sin does indeed have an end, it ends when the unsaved individual dies. It ended when Christ died for the sins of his elect, and His resurrection provided the means of eternal life for all those whose sins were laid upon Christ. And the doctrine of limited punishment, as opposed to eternal conscious punishment, is indeed taught in the scriptures. Deuteronomy 25:1-3 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous and condemn the wicked. 2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number. 3 Forty stripes he may give him, and NOT EXCEED: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem VILE unto thee. One thing that the Bible assures us of, is that God, who has laid down the law for mankind, has bound himself to his own law. (Psalms 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: FOR THOU HAST MAGNIFIED THY WORD ABOVE THY NAME.) This law therefore would be no exception in that God cannot command that the punishment for the wicked is not to exceed a certain number of stripes, and then turn around and Himself punish the wicked without end. This type of doctrine does not harmonize with the scriptures. But when we realize that the same laws that apply to mankind also apply to God himself, then we can see that there is harmony when we also realize that death is the penalty for sin rather than eternal conscious suffering in a place called hell. Death is the end of the punishment of the unsaved. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 For the living know that they shall die but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun. Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, It shall die.

what good does it do anyone to know there's a hell.....if they are not one of the Elect (according to reformed theology which RC believed); and chosen for mercy before the foundation of the world.....they can't do anything to avoid it anyway.....that's one question I've always had.
In a sense that is true. No one can avoid ending up in hell when they die. Even Jesus did (Acts 2:27). It just refers to the grave. That is why God promised resurrection for the dead (Acts 24:15).
I do not want preachers to scare people to death to go to Jesus or hell but to show them the love of Jesus at the cross for them and the beauty of His presence in their lives. Preach heaven not hell.
@@user-um4ke5nb1v I do not believe in hell as an eternal place for the sinners suffering, the Bible preaches a fire death that consumes the lost to ashes. Jesus Himself said that they are burned in John 15:6. Please, take the time to read these verses: Ecclesiastes 3:20,31 ;12:7 ;Malachi 3:20, 12:7 ;Job 10:8,9 ;22:20, 30:19, 33:28,30, 34;14,15, Psalm 1:6 ,9:5, Isaiah 1:28, John 15:6, Rev. 18:21, 20:9, 2Thess. 1:8,9, and Genesis 3:19 , and there are more verses that clearly say that the lost are destroyed, made stubble , put as ashes under our feet ,clearly they return to dust or ashes. Even to the end God shows His love . No eternity for them .
@@olgaburgos7780 : Actually the word HELL is a KJV translation of the Hebrew word SHEOL and the Greek word HADES. It just refers to the GRAVE to which all who die end up in. It is a state of NONEXISTENCE. It is not a place. Even Jesus ended up in this hell when he died (Acts 2:27). That is why God purposed RESURRECTIONS for the dead (Acts 24:15), These bring the nonexistent back into EXISTENCE. Hope this helps.
@@tongakhan230 Faithfulness to all of Scripture, however, requires us to deny that Jesus’ spirit went to hell after He died. First, Jesus told the repentant thief on the cross that he would be with Christ in Paradise on the same day of their crucifixion (Luke 23:39- 43). Second, nothing in Ephesians 4:8-10 says Jesus descended into hell; Paul means only that Christ descended into the grave. Jesus’ spirit never went to hell, but on the cross He suffered the full wrath of God that is poured out in hell.
Thank you so much for this true, Biblical message, Dr. Sproul! You are so right when you say many 21st century churches water down the doctrine of hell. Just a couple days ago, I saw the pastor of "The Bible Project" claim that hell is something mankind made and it's something only in our mind (like hardships or depression). Not only did it break my heart to see hear that, but it broke me when I saw several others subscribing to the same beliefs. They don't believe hell is a literal place. They think it was only speaking of Gehenna and that both believers and non-believers will be saved. So troubling!
This concept of hell being some torture chamber in the sky exists only in the minds of sadists, generally speaking. Even Jesus went to the biblical hell when he died. Everyone who dies goes to this hell. It is another word for the grave. Just a comforting thought from the bible.
Do you remember the source where "The Bible Project" pastor said that? the video or website? Was it Tim Mackie or some other guy? Thank you for your response and if you can find it. Yes, pastors / teachers like RC Sproul and John MacArthur have been a blessing to the church. I think a lot of Christians are concerned since we have few Christian leaders left who speak the truth.

If so, how does one differentiate between who is lying and who is speaking the truth? Is it based on what one WANTS to believe rather than on what the bible actually teaches? Just a thought.
@@tongakhan230 "how does one differentiate between who is lying and who is speaking the truth?" - when someone says something that does align with Scripture, than it is a lie. I love the Bible and read from the original all the time, but the Holy Spirit also guides a believer in truth. So as we "walk" with Christ and read his word we can discern between error & truth. and a note: A new convert may not understand he is listening to untrue doctrine. This is because he is not well versed in Scripture. However, a mature man who lives according to God's word and knows the word will be able to see false teaching fairly quickly.
So I got most of this. What I didn't understand is is heaven and hell a reality after death on this earth. Can anyone please help me? He used a lot of metaphor s. Is there a heaven and hell after death.
Heaven and Hell - according to Sproul's Election Sermon - it's, pretty much, decided WHO will be WHERE, yes? So, then, saying "make sure you're there." doesn’t fit.
What is the use of great bible knowledge if there is a sea of difference between preaching and practicing word of Jesus Christ like not ready to sell the properties for the sake of poor, leave worldly things to take sufferings for the sake of Jesus Christ, not able to control the desires for lust and wealth?

Jesus' reference to children were not Christians of low IQ. They were humble ones. Anyone who tries to hinder a meek hearted one from becoming a follower of Christ will be in trouble. Hell is just the KJV word for Hades which means the GRAVE. Even Jesus ended up in this hell when he died (Acts 2:27). God has purposed resurrection for the dead (Acts 24:15). Unfortunately the KJV has also translated the Greek word Gehenna as Hell too. This word refers to TOTAL DESTRUCTION from which no resurrection is possible. Cutting off limbs so as not to end up in this state is not literal. It just means that Christians should be willing to make sacrifices to remain as Jesus' disciples and not end up destroyed. Just some help.
It is a good thing none of them are infants or children. "A cruel person sends all infants and young children to Heaven." Anyone who says this is most ignorant.
Hell is the KJV's word for the grave. Acts 2:27 King James Version 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in HELL, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. CEB Acts 2:27 because you won’t abandon me to THE GRAVE, nor permit your holy one to experience decay. This prophecy was about how God will not allow Jesus to remain in hell (the grave) for long. Peter confirms this: Acts 2:32 God resurrected this Jesus, and of this we are all witnesses.
How can one attribute the warnings of Mark 9 doctrinally to Christians since this is before the cross? Perhaps this is doctrine for those left on earth during the Tribulation.
@@JG-np1qg what doesn't make sense, that there were no Christians before the cross or that someone on earth during the Trib would be better off to cut off a hand than to sin?
Jesus wasn't asking his followers to maim themselves. He was asking them to make sacrifices in order to get God's approval. Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Here the word hate means to love less. We must be willing to make big sacrifices if we want to be Jesus' disciple. Else, as Jesus points out, being thrown into Gehenna (KJV - hell) is symbolic of TOTAL DESTRUCTION without the hope of being resurrected (John 3:16). Hope this helps.
@@tongakhan230 no Jesus was not asking His followers to maim themselves, but He was teaching the severity of what was before them and all those listening. Jesus was preparing His Jewish audience for the next great prophetic event they would face, the Great Tribulation. It is sometimes referred to as Jacob's Troubles. It will be a time spoken of by James when he said they will have to show their faith by their works. You can learn of things during this coming event in the book of The Revelation when they will have to endure to the end, not take the mark, keep the Commandments and the testimony of Jesus. Jesus is simply saying that if a body part might cause one to sin during this time, they would be better off to remove anything that might make one sin. Notice in the above I said coming because it is still future, however Jesus was preparing the Jews for it because at that time, depending on how they accepted Him on a national level after the cross, it could have happened shortly after the ascension. But they rejected Him and the 2,000 yr parenthetical Church Age was ushered in, but it is still before us and the teachings of Jesus concerning the matter will still apply. Hope this helps.

We have no reason to believe that as men enter the eternal state they change in their attitude towards God. Those in Hell it would seem deserve the torments of Hell as much on the millionth day as they did they first, and those in Heaven enjoy the benefits of God’s Grace through the merit of their substitute that being Jesus Christ eternally also in the same manner. He who is righteous will be righteous still (through Christ) and he who is sinful will be sinful still. (I’m not sure Rev22:11 refers to this thus did not directly quote, but it seems like it may be connected and the application seems true).
I found this from the Website of the people God is gathering during these last days. May help understand Rev 22:11. The apostle John was told that as the time of judgment nears, two types of ripening will take place. On the one hand, “he that is doing unrighteousness, let him do unrighteousness still; and let the filthy one be made filthy still.” But on the other hand, “let the righteous one do righteousness still, and let the holy one be made holy still.” (Revelation 22:10, 11) This latter development is taking place in connection with the worldwide Bible educational work conducted by Jehovah’s Witnesses. The objective of that work is to teach people what God requires of them so that they can be counted as worthy of receiving everlasting life.

Seems to me if we took this literally, no one would have a body left. We'd have a noseless, mouthless, eyeless, sex organless, torso! ...then the brain keeps sinning so you'd have to ice cream scoop out the bad parts of the brain. Not many have not sinned with every part of our bodies. The whole flesh is at war with God and can never be ruled by God. Please explain! I know the precious treasure of grace. I know Christ is not advocating cutting off every part of the body that sins.
Technically you're correct in that we are not "ruled" by God it is in the "giving" of ourselves willingly that we can be servants of God. Yes, sin will happen but as soon as it does it must be given up through repentance. It is through trials and tribulations that God grows faith stronger. Jesus died to eradicate the sin within our flesh. It's only through him that we can overcome.
Jesus is not speaking of going to Heaven or Hell, and he is not speaking to the Body of Christ but to Israel, the circumcision, about how to" enter into life" in the Kingdom of God/Kingdom of Heaven, which is God's Kingdom on earth, The Millenium Reign of Christ in Israel. There are two ways for the believing Jew to getting into the Kingdom, the right way or the wrong way,.Jesus is warning them in these " scary" verses of not getting into the Kingdom in the wrong way , because then they will be thrown into Gehenna, into hellfire, which is not everlasting conscious torment like most Christain preachers woul say, but they are thrown into the refining fire / into the melting furnace/ to be purged as by fire. This is not a literal fire. It is nevertheless a severe punishment, and like all punisments of God it is not everlasting, but will end when the person has learnt the rightousness of God and brings forth the fruits in the person that was intended by God. Those Jews who who were disobedient and didn't suffer/endured to the end for the sake of Jesus during the Tribulation were to go through this refiner's fire. They would not get to reign with Christ in the Millenium. This text is of course is not speaking to Christians, the Body of Chris,t because we are not heading for the Millenium, but heavenly places ,and we are saved by grace through faith, not as through fire, and not by our works or obedience/endurance at all. And when Christ was in the flesh in the Gospels , The Body of Christ was not yet revealed to anyone in the Bible, but an entity as yet hid in God, revealed first to our apostle Paul. Israel, however, were to become a nation of priests so they could be Christ's instrument to bring salvation to all the world in the future. Their works would prove their obedience and faithfullness to their King and Lord. Our faith is not proven by our works. Our faith and salvation is based only on the works of Christ.
This is bizarre. God gives everlasting life to worms and then consigns them to some torture chamber in the sky which supposedly has a fire burning without oxygen. According to these teachers, only sinners end up in this hell. Thus, these worms must be sinner worms. Acts 20:29 I know that after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among you and will not treat the flock with tenderness, 30 and FROM AMONG YOU YOURSELVES men will rise and SPEAK TWISTED THINGS to draw away the disciples after themselves. 2 Timothy 3:13 But wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, MISLEADING and being misled.
@@rlyle5804 So God won't take it from them but they can reject it from God? There seems to be so many interpretations of this doctrine. Up until about 500 A.D., Christian beliefs about hell were reasonable and beautiful. The prevailing view then was that hell (the lake of fire, actually) not only punished but also purified the unrighteous. It was temporary -- each person's finite punishment would fit their finite crimes (sins). (The Greek speaking early church fathers knew that _aionios,_ the Greek word that is mistranslated as "eternal" in most English Bibles, didn't mean "eternal.") Once a person's punishment and purification were complete, he or she would join other saved people on the beautiful new earth described in Revelation 21-22. Everyone would eventually make it there and be blessed, with heavenly rewards varying by person, based on the lives they led. For supporting verses & quotes, see my two replies. Christ came to seek and to save the lost (everybody) (Luke 19:10), and he never fails.

Yes! They are sinner worms who get tossed into hell. That was said in jest. Jesus' use of the location Gehenna was to symbolize total destruction. Those who end up in hades (Hell - KJV) get a resurrection and another opportunity to qualify for life on earth (Acts 24:15). This time under God's government. Psalm 37:29 The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it. Hope this helps.
At death ALL SIN IS WIPED OUT. Romans 6:7 For the one who has died has been ACQUITTED from his sin. If live goes on after death which Satan claimed (Genesis 3:4), then God will be torturing SINLESS persons. Just a thought to reason.
“Hell” appears in the Bible because hell-believing translators put it there, paving over the meanings of three different original Greek words (New Testament). Those words have nothing to do with a place of eternal, fiery torment. Here’s an example. One of those three Greek words was γέεννα -geena or gehenna in English. It appears twelve times in the early Greek texts, and was always translated “hell” by the KJV translators. So, what was γέεννα, really? It was the valley (just outside Jerusalem) which was used as a dump in Jesus’ time. Constant fire and maggots there were sure to destroy whatever was thrown in. But translators said nothing about that dump. Instead, they translated γέεννα as “hell.” Here is an example: ■ “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire” (Mark 9:47) Using “hell” in that verse was grossly misleading. Jesus was not talking about eternal torment in some sort of fiery hell. Jesus was saying that in the future the unsaved would perish. They would surely be destroyed, just as trash thrown into that dump was sure to be destroyed . . . they would be figuratively 'thrown into the dump.' Translators (especially King James Version, 1611) made a real mess when they used the word “hell” in place of those three Greek words. They had inherited their hell concept, by tradition, from the Catholic church. By using “hell” they were twisting the meanings of the Greek words, making the Bible appear to support to their concept of a place of perpetual, fiery torment. Over time some some translators have recognized this error, noting the original Greek words in footnotes, or even using the original Greek words directly in the translated text . . . and not using “hell.” Young’s Literal Translation (YLT), for example, never uses “hell.” The damage caused by the translators continues to this day. Millions of reasonable people dismiss Christianity as nonsense when they are told the God of mercy will sadistically torment the unsaved forever and ever in some sort of fiery hell. ➔ Behind the scenes, the pagan doctrine of the immortal soul is partly to blame. The idea that we have an “immortal soul” - that always exists, somewhere - is a pagan Greek doctrine that has crept into mainstream institutional Christianity over the centuries. As a result, most professing Christians today believe exactly what the Greek philosopher Plato taught: that we have an immortal soul which - upon death - separates from the body and lives forever. Here’s Plato: _“Do we believe that there is such a thing as death? And is this anything but the separation of soul and body? And being dead is the attainment of this separation; when the soul exists in herself, and is parted from the body and the body is parted from the soul . . . beyond question the soul is immortal and imperishable, and our souls will truly exist in another world!”_ (Plato, in Phaedo, about 360 BC) The “immortal soul” idea is a re-packaged version of Satan’s lie: ■ “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4) People who subscribe to the pagan “immortal soul” doctrine see salvation as a matter of "where we’ll spend eternity - in heaven or in hell.” *Wrong paradigm altogether!* Salvation is not about “where you’ll spend eternity.” You won’t even *_have_* an eternity unless you receive eternal life from God! Otherwise you'll perish, just as stated in John 3:16: ■ "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
Sure wish ALL of these evangelical, bible-believing, saved preachers would juxtapose THIS sermon about hell with the doctrine of election. So, then....if a person isn’t chosen - it doesn’t matter HOW much he is preached-to and "frightened."
@@autumngirl951 I'm sorry if I misread. If you're saved, then you know the Bible affirms both election and our responsibility to receive Christ. How every detail of it works, I can't say. But that's how it's presented in God's Word.
24:20 I find this pious declaration exhausting when any kind of apologetic thought is applied to it. God is supposed to be just. He must measure the righteousness of everyone else to the same standard. If He confines R.C. Sproul to hell, He probably confines literally every human soul in the world to hell.
Even Jesus went to hell when he died. All who die end up in hell. It is the KJV's word for the GRAVE. Check out various translations of Revelation 20:14.
I would never serve a God that would torture somebody forever forever forever for not meeting up to His expectations in a 70-year period of life let alone 30 or 40 years. Yes, Jesus taught hell, he was well aware of the scriptures that He inspired to be written, that gave men the decision or the choice of life or death not life in one place or life in another place.
What one is showing is that Satan's use of these charlatans to propagate his lies has worked. Life ceases at death. The dead are nonexistent. That is why the resurrections will be a blessing as it will afford the dead to have another opportunity to qualify for everlasting life. This time under God's government. (Acts 24:15). That means all those who are in hell. Namely, the grave. Psalm 37:29 The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it. Hope this helps.

Is there a Spanish version on this sermon from RC Sproul?

Why would a God of love threaten someone to get his loyalty? Isn't that what Satan wants us to believe? That God is a monster?

Psalm 16:10
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Romans 6:23
For the wages (the payment) of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Deuteronomy 25:1-3
If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous and condemn the wicked.
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
For the living know that they shall die but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.
Ezekiel 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, It shall die.

The problem starts with Platonism..
This is bizarre. God gives everlasting life to worms and then consigns them to some torture chamber in the sky which supposedly has a fire burning without oxygen.
According to these teachers, only sinners end up in this hell. Thus, these worms must be sinner worms.

Because thou wilt not leave my soul in HELL, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
A Faithful Version
For You will not leave My soul in the GRAVE, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

1 Pet. 3:18-20

Most leading early church fathers believed in eventual universal salvation:
"Christ saves all men. Some he converts by penalties, others who follow Him of their own will ... that every knee may be bent to Him, of those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth" [Isa. 45:22-23, Rom. 14:11, Phil. 2:10-11, Rev. 5:13] -- *Clement of Alexandria,* _Commentary on 1 John_
"The Word will subdue to himself all rational natures, and will change them into his own perfection." [John 12:32, 1 Cor. 15:22-28, Phil. 3:21] -- *Origen,* _Contra Celsum_ 8:72
"What else does 'until the times of universal restoration' signify to us, if not the aeon to come, in which all beings must receive their perfect restoration?" [Acts 3:21] -- *Eusebius,* leading historian of the early church, _Contra Marcellum __2:4:11_
"A few drops of blood renew the whole world, and become for all men that which rennet is for milk, uniting and drawing us into one." [Col. 1:15-20] -- *Gregory Nazianzus,* _Oration 42_
"Christ captured over again the souls captured by the devil, for that He promised in saying, 'I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto Me.'" [John 12:32, 1 Peter 3:19-20, 4:6, Psalm 68:18, Eph. 4:8-10, and maybe Matt. 12:29] -- *Athanasius,* _Expositions on the Psalms, 68.18_
"The peace [coming] from the Lord is coextensive with all time [eternity]. For all things shall be subject to him, and all things shall acknowledge his empire; and when God shall be all in all, those who now excite discords by revolts, having been quite pacified, [all things] shall praise God in peaceful concord." [Psalm 145:10a, 1 Cor. 15:28, Rev. 5:13] -- *Basil,* _Commentary on Isaiah 9:6_
"So the Son of Man came to save that which was lost, i.e., all, for as in Adam all die, so, too, in Christ shall all be made alive." [Luke 19:10, 1 Cor. 15:22] -- *Ambrose,* _Exposition on the Gospel of Luke 15.3_
"For the wicked there are punishments not perpetual, ... but they are to be tormented for a certain brief period, according to the amount of malice in their works. They shall therefore suffer punishment for a short space, but immortal blessedness, having no end, awaits them; ... the penalties to be inflicted for their many and grave crimes are very far surpassed by the magnitude of the mercy to be showed them. The resurrection, therefore, is regarded as a blessing, not only to the good, but also to the evil." [Isa. 57:16], *Diodore,* _De Oecon_
"Some among the wise and learned … have alluded to this in an enigmatic way, by adducing that God is not only just, but also merciful, and that it becomes the One who judges with justice to have sinners suffer in a measure that is proportional to their sins and then make them worthy of blessedness." -- *Theodore,* _Liber Scholiorum, 2:63_
"'All the kings of the earth shall adore him.' Some, indeed, in the present life willingly, but all the rest after the Resurrection; for not yet do we see all things subject to him, but then every knee shall bow to him." [The "kings of the earth" are rebellious unbelievers in Rev. 6:15, 17:2,18, 18:3,9, 19:19,21 ... but check out what happens in Rev. 21:24-27!] -- *Theodoret,* _On Psalm 72:11_
"Death shall come as a visitor to the impious; it will not be perpetual; it will not annihilate them; but will prolong its visit, till the impiety which is in them shall be consumed." [Matt. 5:26] -- *Jerome,* _On Micah 5:8_
"After the complete abolition of sin, praise shall be sung to God; which praise contain (implies) our being incapable of turning to sin ... when every created being shall be harmonized into one choir ... and when, like a cymbal, the reasonable creation, and that which is now severed by sin ... shall pour forth a pleasing strain, due to mutual harmony. Then comes the praise of every spirit for ever abounding with increase unto eternity." [Psalm 150] -- *Gregory of Nyssa,* _On Psalms, Tract 1, ch. 9_

Wrong theology.
Hell is mistranlation
You don't pour new wine into old wine skins...
I'll eat 2,500 worms in Heaven
4,747 in Hell 654 in Limbo
So there's going to be worms there?
Yes there is ) the body is rottening
Outside the profession of Catholic Teaching there is absolutely no way to save your eternal soul! Nor, is there remission of sin!
Catholic teaching is not Gods teaching, it is another gospel of another Jesus
At death ALL SIN IS WIPED OUT.
Romans 6:7 For the one who has died has been ACQUITTED from his sin.
If live goes on after death which Satan claimed (Genesis 3:4), then God will be torturing SINLESS persons.
Just a thought to reason.
And where in Holy scripture is that mentioned Joseph?
“Hell” appears in the Bible because hell-believing translators put it there, paving over the meanings of three different
original Greek words (New Testament). Those words have nothing to do with a place of eternal, fiery torment.
Here’s an example. One of those three Greek words was γέεννα -geena or gehenna in English. It appears twelve times
in the early Greek texts, and was always translated “hell” by the KJV translators.
So, what was γέεννα, really? It was the valley (just outside Jerusalem) which was used as a dump in Jesus’ time.
Constant fire and maggots there were sure to destroy whatever was thrown in. But translators said nothing about that
dump. Instead, they translated γέεννα as “hell.” Here is an example:
■ “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than
having two eyes to be cast into hell fire”
(Mark 9:47)
Using “hell” in that verse was grossly misleading. Jesus was not talking about eternal torment in some sort of fiery hell.
Jesus was saying that in the future the unsaved would perish. They would surely be destroyed, just as trash thrown into
that dump was sure to be destroyed . . . they would be figuratively 'thrown into the dump.'
Translators (especially King James Version, 1611) made a real mess when they used the word “hell” in place of those
three Greek words. They had inherited their hell concept, by tradition, from the Catholic church. By using “hell” they
were twisting the meanings of the Greek words, making the Bible appear to support to their concept of a place of
perpetual, fiery torment.
Over time some some translators have recognized this error, noting the original Greek words in footnotes, or even using
the original Greek words directly in the translated text . . . and not using “hell.” Young’s Literal Translation (YLT), for
example, never uses “hell.”
The damage caused by the translators continues to this day. Millions of reasonable people dismiss Christianity as
nonsense when they are told the God of mercy will sadistically torment the unsaved forever and ever in some sort of
fiery hell.
➔ Behind the scenes, the pagan doctrine of the immortal soul is partly to blame.
The idea that we have an “immortal soul” - that always exists, somewhere - is a pagan Greek doctrine that has crept
into mainstream institutional Christianity over the centuries. As a result, most professing Christians today believe
exactly what the Greek philosopher Plato taught: that we have an immortal soul which - upon death - separates from
the body and lives forever. Here’s Plato:
_“Do we believe that there is such a thing as death? And is this anything but the separation of soul and body? And
being dead is the attainment of this separation; when the soul exists in herself, and is parted from the body and the
body is parted from the soul . . . beyond question the soul is immortal and imperishable, and our souls will truly exist
in another world!”_
(Plato, in Phaedo, about 360 BC)
The “immortal soul” idea is a re-packaged version of Satan’s lie:
■ “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4)
People who subscribe to the pagan “immortal soul” doctrine see salvation as a matter of "where we’ll spend eternity
- in heaven or in hell.”
*Wrong paradigm altogether!*
Salvation is not about “where you’ll spend eternity.” You won’t even *_have_* an eternity unless you receive eternal
life from God! Otherwise you'll perish, just as stated in John 3:16:
■ "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
Sure wish ALL of these evangelical, bible-believing, saved preachers would juxtapose THIS sermon about hell with the doctrine of election.
So, then....if a person isn’t chosen - it doesn’t matter HOW much he is preached-to and "frightened."
The Bible affirms both His election and people's responsibility to repent. Please do so, before it's too late for you.
@Yesica1993 hmm...who says I'm not saved??? Bold assumption on your part and you still did NOT answer my query. Please reread. Thanx for your reply!
@@tongakhan230 Oh struth, YOU AGAIN!
@@OZTutoh : Wasn't I agreeing with what one wrote.
