  • The dominant view in our culture is that mankind-in fact, the entire universe-arose by chance. In this message, Dr. Sproul critiques this view by appealing to a basic truth: you can’t get something out of nothing. Nothing ever happens by chance, for God, who created everything in this world, rules over it all.
    This is the 7th in a series of messages by Dr. Sproul. See other videos in the series: • Classic Collection - R...

    R. C. Sproul was an outstanding preacher. But does he believe this thing happened the way described in the Old Testament? How come, that God punished the Philistines for capturing the Ark, but several centuries later the Ark went missing, obviously destroyed by the Babylonians, and we do not hear of the humiliation of the Marduk by YHWH, or any kind of plague or rodent infestation of Babylon.
    The explanation is rather simple. This story of Dagon being humiliated in front of YHWH was written after the wars between the Hebrews and the Philistines, but the story of the Babylonian defeat of Judah was contemporary history, which could not be embellished, all the more so, that Judah did not get back its independence even after the return from Babylon. But while the two Jewish kingdoms (or at least Judah) existed, they could tell such a legendary tale about the fights with the Philistines.

    Around 9:50 he misspeaks a bit. The mother named the child, not someone else. There should've been a correction on the screen or something.
    1 Samuel 4
    20 And about the time of her death the women attending her said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you have borne a son.” But she did not answer or pay attention. 21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband. 22 And she said, “The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.”
    That said, I've always found this to be one of the saddest, darkest passages in Scripture.

If one has been through very difficult trials & struggles... and is finally blessed with the conviction that there is no malevolence within the Almighty (as I was), then one can retain confidence in a perfect, holy God.. because of his benevolent nature........ despite whatever we might experience. God is not malevolent.. just because he ordained (or allowed) my first three young children to die. God doesn't exist to serve me. I exist to honor Him. Peace.

    The Basics:. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Rejecters will not be. Why wouldn't the myriads of similar verses not say "those chosen to believe at creation will be saved"? Because it would be an acçursed predestined different gospel! Those that do believe are predestined to be conformed to Christ's image. Believe and trust the Bible, not men

      Jay, I have recently begun to study on the topic you mentioned in your comment as I never have directly before (at least not with purpose). A question/scenario jumped out to me early in my study of this that seems so obvious in that it needs to be answered and yet I had never considered it before. So far no one I have posed it to has been able to answer it and seeing your comment I am hoping you might provide some insight.
      I assume you believe in Yahweh’s sovereignty, that He knows the end from the beginning, that He knows all things past present and future, that there is no knowledge that He ever gains, and that there is nothing He ever learns.
      With that said, let’s take a hypothetical man by the name of Bob Jones. Bob Jones is born like every other human, lives his entire life in rejection of his Creator and of Christ, and dies separated from God to spend eternity separated from the LORD. Bob Jones is not eternal, there is no essence of Bob Jones that must be created, and no one has forced God to create Bob Jones.
      If God knows all things and also knows that Bob Jones will reject Him his entire life and end up in hell, why does God create Bob Jones?
      I cannot see any other possibility other than that the Armenian and the Calvinist both have to answer this question that God chose it to be and that He had a purpose for creating Bob Jones who He knew would end up in hell if created. The only theist who does not have to answer this question in this way is an open theist who believes that God is constantly learning and did not know the end before he created. Thoughts?

    • @jayahladas692
      @jayahladas692 2 роки тому

      @@miketisdale7341 As you said, God knows the end from the beginning. He knew Adam would sin but gave man choice so that he could freely return His love and not be a robot. He also knew his creation was good, and the outcome would be to His glory. Just because God has foreknowledge does not mean everything is predestined. In 1Sam23:11 God told David that Saul would come to Keilah and attack him. David & his men left and it didn't happen. In Luke 10:31 Jesus said a priest came down a road By Chance. In Luke 7:30 the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God. Even Judas could have changed his mind, God would have just found another way,. See, He has all the bases covered, He will not be stymied. We are not outside of time like God is and can only surmise, as Solomon did:. Ecclesiastes 9:11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

    • @miketisdale7341
      @miketisdale7341 2 роки тому

      @@jayahladas692 but that still does not answer my question about Bob Jones. Bob Jones did not ask for God to create him, and God knows he will end up in hell, and still creates him. It seems like Romans 9 speaks to this scenario and I am certainly not calling it unfair as Paul anticipates. I just don’t see how the Armenian camp can say it is not predestined if God knows it will happen and by His sovereign degree creates Bob anyway. Even if you go with the perspective that He knows the outcome of all possible worlds He creates or knows the outcome of all possible decisions that could be made, it’s still His choice to create who He creates. I’m not sure how any person honestly gets out from under that without saying God didn’t know. Again, Bob Jones did not have to be created and no matter what possibility of decisions Bob Jones could make, God knows the exact ones he will make.
      These are just the questions I have been mulling over in my head but I don’t think your response of “God can get it done another way if he needs to” addresses my question because it does not address what God did do. Either way, thank you for the response and based on the content at least I know your stance. Thank you!

    Only Rome came against Israel.

    Christ has yet to save the remnant of Israel when he stands upon the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 12:10)
    That has not yet been fulfilled.
    And the saints come WITH Christ (Zechariah 12, rev 19, Jude 1:14, 1 thes 3:13)
    If Christ came already you missed the rapture.

    1/3 Burnt has not yet happened (rev 8)
    144000 has not been saved yet, the remnant has not yet fled.

    If Christ already came, then how do you explain (rev 19, Isaiah 63, when Christ spills the lifeblood of the nations in the day of vengeance.
    ....
    If Christ came, where is the 1000 year millenial kingdom the Jews were promised to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
    This has not happened, as they get the kingdom when Christ returns.

    27:54--28:01... "one maverick molecule could destroy all the plans of God"! Exaggeration is not allowed; and "one maverick fallen angel" is the proof: read Is.14:4-27. God does ordain "every thing that comes to pass", if He ordained it to do that. God does not "ordain" every evil thing that people think. That would go against His holy and righteous character and will.
    Let's see the Scripture for such exaggeration...if you can present it.

    It certainly pays to seek God's guidance as we walk through his word as we discover the wisdom of his counsel. What a great God we have. God continue to use this ministry and bring blessing and understanding to all who claim him as Lord and King.

    A preacher once sent me several scripture references with the word " chance" in them. He was trying to prove that God is not sovereign
    I was totally puzzled why he would do that 😢

    Such incredible, timely messages from RC as he teaches from Biblical History. Jesus Christ the same yesterday to day and for ever. (Heb. 13:8)
