Hey there! There seems to be conflicting information in terms of the extent of complexation of the lewis acid catalyst with phenols. While it does complex, it does not appear to complex as strongly as aniline due to the lower basicity of the lone pairs. We would imagine that anisole would run into similar issues. It's possible to alkylate, but yields will probably be better using non-lewis acid catalysts. imgur.com/a/BF7ZXWZ
Hey there! Not sure what you meant but if nitro groups are present in the same ring, this will have a directing effect and FC will happen on the meta spot.
