Attached is a video filmed on Saturday off the coast of Mississippi in 3,000' of water. We were inspecting the flowline jumper (subsea using an ROV) and saw this.
The fact that whales can’t breathe under water yet he is just cruising along the bottom 3000ft deep. Amazing footage man. And posted 17 years ago? One of UA-cam’s first and finest (:

I spent most of my professional life doing structural design work on offshore oil and gas platforms. When I started in the 1970’s a “deep water” platform was anything in more than 500’ of water. The last project I worked on before my retirement in 2014 was in 7,200 feet of water. The amount of technology and engineering to do anything at those water depths is staggering! Yet here is a creature that simply takes a deep breath and cruises around at nearly 1.5 miles underwater. Is nature amazing or what!
Pretty insane for something to cruise at the surface, take a deep breath, and then spend several hours diving up to 7,000 feet deep in search of food. These guys are like living submarines.
"You seen any giant squid around here?"

The fact that you can’t see something that big until it’s right next to you in the water is why deep ass water terrifies me.
Considering the creepy things that we can see at such depths, it's kind of comforting to see these familiar gentle giants even that far down.
Amazingly, they've been known to go to 7,000 feet for up to an hour and a half. Amazing creatures.
The amount of engineering required for us to be down there and this thing just swims by on a held breath.
I didn't know whales went down that deep. I'm 68 and I still learn something new everyday! Thanks to the creators!

I don’t know why we’re all getting this recommended in our feed after 17 years but that was dope
Whale: “Damn, you guys can swim this far down?”
This is what UA-cam is for. Short contextless videos that blow your mind

I love that UA-cam is still showing a video from 18 years ago

Someone out there in the world lived through childhood, teenage years, now graduated and then got this video recommended.

This would've scared the hell outta me, thinking it was some kind of sea monster.

He is like "Oh, hello there. We don't usually have visitors. What brings you in these depths?"
The capacity and efficiency of the whale's lungs is INCREDIBLE!
