I'm making just the head as a stand alone. It looks seriously off. Why did you not show closer detail on stitching the bottom jaw to the head? You kind of skipped right over it. I figured it out based on hole count but it really looks bad. Does it need a 'throat piece' to help it keep its shape?
the ridge on the top of the wings have too many holes and do not line up with the top of the wing to hold the wire in. What is the reason for that? how do I fix it?
This is truly awe-inspiring! I couldn't possibly make this, but I can imagine the countless hours and skill spent in designing, developing and perfecting it. I feel privileged to have been given the chance to watch the making :) Thank you so much for posting!
You can make it. With the patterns and video tutorials, they are straightforward and easy to follow. The dragon is no more or less complicated (except maybe the stamping). There are just more parts, and curves take practice to cut. I’ve enjoyed the pieces I have made with these and other patterns. Give it a try!
@@andrewb9590 Thank you for your confidence, it's much appreciated :) I have had some excellent projects resulting from CA patterns and don't doubt one stitch-hole or the quality of instructions - I do, however lack the equipment and the dexterity this clearly needs....yet :) This definitely goes down on my future list though. Yep, currently going wacko creating this. I found it helpful to make note of the attachment numbers & L/R on the pattern, then cover the pattern pieces with clear packing tape before cutting or punching the holes. This way once cut, you'll know exactly where things go. I also used scotch tape to do a mock up of the Dragon with the cut out pattern, this helps with making sure the scales will be going in the right directions. Keeping various body parts in zip locks also helps(there's alot of pieces!) After merrily blasting away at stamping the scales, I found all the holes got squished closed & had to re-open them :/ Got the wings done so far, now for the fun!! Epic engineering in making this pattern - thanks Patyrik!
I am impressed. The pattern is faultless and very well put together and designed - I have just finished and it is easier than the owl, which was my first project. A few comments for others 1) don't underestimate the time it takes - you WILL finish but take it slow, you have another life to lead 2) don't be discouraged by the professional video - yours will look great too as nobody in your life will compare it to that 3) do you really need to stamp / dye etc? It is really important to get the stamping right, it takes a LOT of time, it won't look as good as the video, and the stamp is expensive (in the UK as it has to be imported. I did stamp the head - it is OK, I guess, but I am glad I gave up after that. Natural leather look is good too. I am looking into painting the leather (it is a thing I understand) - maybe one day 4) "floppy wings" - both, the dragon and the owl. Seems like Creative Awl have a design blind spot. But again easy to fix in both by extending the cycle spoke / wire coat hanger idea across the body and stitching in - it transforms the look for the better 5) I think it is better without the arms - more realistic for a "real life" (!)dragon. Arms would be an evolutionary travesty 6) the "backbone" part of the design is genius. It doesn't look as though it will work but stitching pulls the whole thing together into a rigid unit. Whoever thought of that?!

The wings seem to droop where they attach to the body. Need some stiffening there.
You guys always have such cool creature patterns. I agree with another who commented that looks like it is missing arms in the chest area--but the ones in GoT don't have them --but so many others do. I am sure it would be an easy "fix" to add them. Still all that stamping and stitching wow
Personally I normally make the holes first, then cut the peaces, and then the whole stamping proces, followed by painting, resoline, antique, and resoline again
Hello, iv purchased this pattern and would like to know how much time was there between dying then neatsfoot oil and then resolene? Did you wait a day in-between each? thanks
It's to prevent that the paint is going to mix with the antique finish, depending on the paint and the drying time it can come out pretty ugly if you won't, I had this a few times myself, even by using the same paint and procedure it came out different as meant to be a few times, after I painted, sealed it and put the antique finish, I put a second layer of resoline, to seal the antique finish 😉

Go with thread through holes on both wings and maybe one through the neck. So you will have 3 threads wrapped together. By the way - I'm on the way to put a free pattern for dragon's stand like a castle tower :)
At the time 25:19 shows the legs facing in a different direction than when finished at 27:55. Were they put on backwards to start then changed midway. I am following the video to complete this and now that I have done one leg it appears to be on backwards. Now i have to rip it out and start over. Am I missing something?
on etsy it says ya need 2 x 20" bicycle spoke. but on the video i don't see where you insert the wires. can ya explain how or where to put these pls? i bought aluminum 1.5mm wire from amazon as i dont know what bespoke is and no one has this in stores.

Don’t know about her stamp but the ones I see usually measure either 1/2 inch or 12.5mm or 9/16 inch or 14.8 mm. Either way I find they can be tedious and have to be placed spot on to achieve a nice pattern. All the more reason to applaud the work that went into this job.

its based on vywern-dragon, that is why it's missing upper arms.
I love this pattern! But I am having issues finding spokes that are 20" long. Should i be looking for spokes that are for 20" bicycle wheels?

I had to watch this twice as well, it's the left and right leg, that's why it looks like it's the other way around

Bicycle spoke is the wire In the centre of a wheel. Find an old bicycle wheel and cut out the spokes ( wire)

Some car sun shades have a metal frame around them. The ones you have to twist around to fold them to put away. Try one of them
