      You’ll need to know this. Colorsdo has cut off the water coming into the streams to fill lake mead. It’s used to be 40% coming into lake mead but Colorsdo diverted only 20% now. Do lake mead will continue to drop. I’m not sure why They did that but it’s not good for the other states. However Colorsdo is supposed to have a big year of moisture so let’s pray for rain. Lol

    That Dorsett boat was from the 60's. I had a 1958 Dorsett myself at one time. They were started in 1955 and sold off around the 70's. Several different companies bought their plans and equipment. They were decent boats.

    I did some research on Dorsett boats. They were manufactured from 1955 through 1967. This look like the Dorsett Catalina which is the primary boat they manufactured. They were out of Santa Clara, CA. They sold for 1800.00 in 56 up to 2500 in 67. Which is a lot of money for the time era. Amazing history on their boats. Thank you for sharing and keep doing what you guys do.

But I only watch Your channel for updates because You show the same spots, so we can the difference from one video to the next, and we get fishing content as well which is awesome. So thanks for all the hard work in putting these videos out. By the way that Boat is a 1958-1961? Dorsett Catalina. Very cool boat back in their day. Stay safe Cheers.

    Such awesome father/son time!! I lost my son to cancer when he was 10. He loved 4 wheelin' and boating. I love watching you guys spend time together. I've dated women with young sons, but they seem to be so confrontational due to their daddy's crap comments. Sadly, every one of those boys have done jail time instead of wheelin' and fishing with me.

Wed just go walk out in the mesa, away from her til she became sane again. He took me drag racing ( illegally) in his hot rod that ate everyone elses lunch. Even bought my mom a mink coat with the $ he won racing. He was my shield & defender in every case. She treated him like s#[+ but he loved her anyway. He was like that, brought joy & unconditional love into our lives. Biggest mistake my mom ever made was divorcing him after 4 years & spent the rest of her life regretting it. Bible says theres angels that appear as humans on this earth & i think he was one of them.

    Yes, there's STILL stuff to do at Lake Mead, as long as one has a smaller hull and more awareness to still enjoy the lake, if that's what you also mean. I like that you share what you both think about what's going on there. I'm learning much from your family. I learn a lot from ALL of you. I've been praying for rain to happen out west (I live in Massachusetts). I'm happy to see the lake rising. At Let's see what the coming months share.
    I'm a realist, and I lean toward the positive side at the same time. At the same time, as you know, while we had rain recently, there has got to be A LOT of rain to forgive that land!
    I also get what you are saying about family and home, regarding years put in. I love that you love your Dad, and what you KNOW what he did and who he IS, and also as a father, teacher, and a role model too. I respect your dad too, and if I ever get the chance to hug him for his service, and his love for his family, I would ( from one veteran to another, and from one that loves family ). I would like to shake YOUR hand too.
    On another note, I wish I was more of a seafood eater. Scallops, mussels, clams, etc., yuck! I like SOME seafood though. Maybe I just never had any fish the way YOUR family prepares them ! ? What you've showed in your past video's, it sure looks good !
    The water level has gone up. A little bit of good news is good news! Let's believe in more, right !
    Also, don't think you have to do a big giveaway to thank your followers! Just saying thank you, I think, means more to me, and I'm sure it does for you too. YOU share MUCH, so thank YOU! I'M either privileged or lucky to have found YOUR channel, as I will most assuredly will never have the chance or opportunity to go to that area where you live, in our great country. I also learn much about you and your family. So, you do not need to entice others to better this channel. Just saying.

    14:40 in NC we call them hockleburrs. They look similar to what you are showing there. I grew up living next to a pond, literally about 50-60 years from my house. It used to be farmland, and so this pond, or waterhole, was about half an acre in size when full, but during the summer is we go down to about half that, and the dry areas would start growing tall grasses like you are showing. But after the big rains, it would fill back up and all those plants would die off. It was a great pond. We had at least 4 different turtle species(snapper, painted, yellowbelly, musk), largemouth bass( largest caught was almost 6lb), bream, catfish (largest caught was about 8lbs), and some blue gill and some perch. There were only a few small mouth bass, bull frogs, water moccasin, copperheads. I think everyone should spend time outdoors, maybe as a school requirement. Could put it in biology class and people can actually see how nature is affected

    The last time I was at Lake Mead was back in the late 1960's at Temple Bar. The lake was full. We boated over to the Haystacks one morning and enjoyed the area. The wind came up in the early afternoon and we had to scram. The waves got big and beat up the boats. There were 2 boats that made the trip. One had a deep-v hull and my friend's dad had a brand new Glencoe flat bottom hull. I road back in the deep-v with my brother Jim and my friend Gary. We had quite the roller-coaster ride of the year. Gary's dad was driving his new boat that started to break up on him before he got back. All were safe on the Glencoe but it was a total loss and Glencoe wouldn't honor the warranty. It is scary to think that my friends came close to being victims of another boating accident on Lake Mead....

We left about a week before them, because I'm disabled and so I have to make a lot of stops. My wife kept saying she was worried about being bored. I have been out that way a few times in my life and I told her "the desert has its own beauty". Once we got past Texas she was ooo'ing and ahh'ing over the canyons and message and just how beautiful the sunsets were. We didn't get through Nevada but we did go through Arizona and New Mexico. She is now more on board with my retirement plan of getting an RV and traveling the USA for a year or two. Hopefully we can do that in about 10-15 years, since I'm 45 now. Ya' lol have some amazing views out there. I was supposed to be in CA for 6-8 weeks, but we ended up being there for 9 months. While we were there, we had a lot of downtime and so I saw some videos on UA-cam and went and bought a DSLR, tripod, and a few lenses. Y'all are blessed to not have as much light pollution as we do on the east coast. The nighttime shots of the Milky Way looks like it would be amazing there where you are at. Do you think that Lake Mead will ever fill back up? Do you think it is solely climate change or do you think that the increased pressure of larger populations has caused this lowering of water levels? Am I right when I say that Lake Mead also feeds water consumption to residents in CA? Great video!

      The Lake Mead level WAS going up over August with the rains, but now in September it's starting to drop again. The increase was less than 4ft overall, which means it only made up for the last month or so it was dropping before. That was only a temporary pause in the overall trend line...

      Fall/Winter is actually a time for major draw from the lake. Just this week, the Southern California and Arizona farms planted and transplanted the winter vegetables. So this is when the farm irrigation starts to pick up and that's where most of lake Mead's water goes to. Those farms grow about 80-90% of the USA's winter vegetables, specifically leafy greens. broccoli and other such vegetables are grown.
      There was actually a bit of a scare the other day when a Tropical Storm came up Baja and struck California and Arizona with some of the outer bands of the storm. Since the crops are only just penny-sized sprouts, such a hammering of rain would destroy much of the crops, leaving most of the US without their thanksgiving and Christmas veggies. but it seems the rain fell elsewhere and all was safe.
      (same sort of thing happened a few years ago when the pumpkin crops got flooded out and it was impossible to find any canned pumpkin for pies that year.)
      The real hope is during winter...the snowmelt from snow in colorado is what replenishes the rivers and the lakes. Monsoon rains sort of hit the pause button on the draining, but it's the snowmelt that fills it back up.

    About 15 years ago, my son came home from his duty in Iraq on R&R, and we rented a houseboat on Lake Mead for 4 days. On the afternoon of the 2nd day we were way up at the East end and the wind came up. It got quite rough. I found a protected cove out of the wind and we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. During the night the wind shifted direction and I had to resecure the boat to keep it from getting blown ashore. Then about 5am the wind died and I got everyone up to get out of there before the wind came up again. They all went back to sleep and I brought the boat all the way down through the narrow gorge to a safe spot in the lower part of the lake. The point being that the wind can come up quickly and the waves can get big even on a lake

    I came to see a locals perspective of what's happening at Lake Mead, and I stayed for the Father and Son relationship. Love you guys. That said, Lake Mead's issue is not climate related. They have been pumping in the same amount of water over the same pipe since the lake was dug. As the cities and population grows, the water supply did not. They have ALLOWED this to continue when they knew over a decade ago that there was an issue.

    • @RyanMcIntyre
      @RyanMcIntyre 2 роки тому +1

      It's also related to man-made climate change and an unusually long desert drought. Human use of water IS a problem to be sure, but it wouldn't be a problem were it not for this drought.

    • @petercollingwood522
      @petercollingwood522 2 роки тому

      Bunk. Meade is not filled by a pipe. It's filled by snow melt off of the Rockies feeding the Colorado River. As well as other riverine sources closer to the dam.The amount of inflow is inadequate since the drought to compensate for the excess requirements of untamed city and agricultural expansion in the South West. "They" have indeed known this was going to be a problem for way more than a decade. "They" being scientists were simply not listened to because who needs rational thought when you can go on living in a fools paradise.
