I think its great the most liberal lesbian in Hollywood jodie Foster, stood by Mel during his darkest days and still claims him as her friend. Good on her. Mel did the same to Downey Junior.
Along with being charmy and funny, Maverick works as a beautiful tribute to the original tv show starring James Garner. The twist at the end is great 😅all those Burts and Bretts, things never change. Just makes me wonder where was Brett's brother that whole time.

It is an ok movie but I wouldn’t watch it with your mother because it might make her feel offended. Maverick would be a fun family watch then Trading Mom.
I suppose Trading Mom is a little bit better than North in the sense it’s innocuous. It’s a cheesy kids movie but I like the nostalgia of it. Maverick was good.

Siskel and Ebert would be ashamed to give Return of Jafar a thumbs up if they knew the true story behind the scenes, plus there isn't anything original or worthy. You know it's bad when retreads of songs from the original is among the HIGHLIGHTS.
Maverick was a good movie, and I kinda liked it, but James Garner IS Maverick, and everyone knows it. Mel Gibson is fine in the role, but he gets overshadowed every time Garner enters the room. Trading Mom and North are similar except in North it was one kid as opposed to three and then he wanted to trade both parents. Also North’s parents ignored him the mom in TM was just strict. Also I feel Trading Mom just had more of a depressing core to it whereas North was just tasteless. When Ebert is saying no fun I think he is referring to the end which to me seems depressing for a children’s film.

North was just tasteless and tried too hard to be funny while failing. Trading Mom had the ambition to tell a story with a moral but became depressing. Also North had way more all star talent behind it with Rob Reiner directing. Certainly Sissy Spacek, Anna Chlumaky Maureen Stapleton and Andre the Giant were quality talent but North had way more all star actors in it. It just depends if you prefer a depressing story versus a tasteless one.
Uhh Trading Mom was massively UNDER produced. I saw the first five minutes of it for the first time ever just now and man, some of the worst child AND adult acting of all time. Like some kind of demented after school special.

As the camping mom she was the most spirited so that was an ok performance at best. But certainly material beneath the talent of an Oscar winning actress. Anna Chlumsky was ok although of course she was better in the first My Girl. The kid who played Jeremy was also ok but that kid who played Harry the youngest brother was definitely a very bad actor. Hate to pick on a kid for trying but he was just plain bad. Some kid actors were good and some weren’t just like adults.

Even for a Western, Maverick turned out to be VERY SURPRISINGLY enjoyable to me.

Actually the movie Toys came out a month after Aladdin. Ferngully was out earlier in 92.
I was never much into westerns until I saw Maverick! I love that movie!
Maverick is fun... many forget Mel was as good at comedy as he was drama and action.
