The reason the original is so great is largely due to Father Damian Karras’s compelling character arc and how the movie is primarily about him and his declining belief in all things spiritual. Regan and the mother were secondary to him. The movie was scary when it needed to be scary and succeeded in that aspect in a way only a handful of films have in history. But the atmosphere and story at it’s core is what made it the masterpiece that it was. This new film seems like a soulless horror movie like any other in modern day using a legendary name to sell it. I hope I’m wrong but it seems to primarily focus on the scare factor and “shocking” imagery which in actuality isn’t even pushing any boundaries like the original did. And when I say soulless, a perfect example is by bringing back Ellen Burstyn to reprise her role from 50 years ago and try and make it make sense in the plot just to please the audience because it’s what’s “hip” nowadays. We all know making a profit is what every film is about at the end of the day but please don’t make it so obvious and show a little originality and passion. Simply paying homage and throwing Easter eggs is a lowball move. This is all my opinion of course.
Yeah, the whole movie was a great arc with a perfect ending. The demon made father believe again and father knowingly called the demon for his possession. Which shows how love for something greater than some selfish desires is the only way to defeat evil. He was complete in his moment of death. Free of worries and full of unconditional love and compassion which is the greatest single virtue of divinity.

Looks like your typical Blumhouse glossy, CGI filled, jumpscare drivel. What made the original so good was it’s slow build up and practical effects. I hope it’s good but am not setting my expectations high.
I agree. Love the scene in the beginning of the original when Father Merrin is about to face the demon and the sun goes into dark clouds and the dogs fight. Then you know satanic forces are gearing up. I am amazed that no other (to the best of my knowledge) movie has done something similar.
This looks really good the ending really scared me. But thing is the original was shocking because stuff like that was never done in horror before so this has a lot to live up to
It also helps to have a director who knows the ins and outs of the possession scene, the Bible, and having been around in 1973 and witness what a movie can do to an audience world wide. Many people had issues after seeing the original that it really baffles some of the strongest minds
What made the original so great is that it wasnt just an Exorcism/Possesion story, its a story about the struggles with faith and more of a psychological film with horror elements rather than a full blown horror film. Hell, the possesed girl, Regan, wasn't even the the primary character and focus, she was more of the catalyst and background force driving the story, Father Merrin is the main character and we follow him way before he even learns of the McNeils and we follow all of his life struggles, Chris is the secondary character. The movie isnt just about how the girl gets possessed, that part is actually kinda brushed over, its shown once that she was playing with the Ouija board and its implied thats how she got possessed, no big mystery, its about how the possesion and all that follows effects the lives of the characters, the babysitter would probably quit if it was a modern movie but this babysitter is shown to have been connected to the family and even decides to contact the priest instead of the mother, Kinderman wouldve been a no nonsense cop who didnt believe in the paranormal but in this he is just never told about the possesion or leaves the house before anything supernatural occurs, each character, even the side characters are given some level of depth and importance. I fear this film will suffer the fate of almost every exorcism/possesion movie that has been made post-The Exorcist, it will be a simple story of a girl being possesed whilst a priest tries to help or cant and they have to call in an expert on the matter. The only difference being that they have the "Legacy" element which will either make or break the movie, and another difference i see is that they will try to use other means of religious help instead of strictly catholic/christian Im glad to see Chris McNeil back, I wouldve preferred Linda Blair but I understand why she doesnt, but I hate Legacy movies, there are only a few I actually think did the legacy element right. Hopefully, they dont have Chris is the main character, I hope they do what the first Insidious did, they had a big 1st and 2nd act with the haunting and whatever and then they bring in the expert ghost hunter. I think they should have the whole haunting and possesion and them trying ro figure it all out, whilst showing small bits of Chris' life outside of the the ordeal and what shes up to now, then when all things seem unsolvable and the doctors have done all they can, they bring in Chris who is reluctant but willing if it means more children and others lives wont get destroyed like hers was. Also, from what I see of the demon voice, its not good. They are doing the same as every other horror movie now, like the newest Conjuring universe movies and the shitfest of Pope's Exorcist, but they dont even try to replicate what the original did, I can't think of the lady's name but she did alot to get the voice right, apprently she drink raw eggs and chain smoked, thats commitment, now I dont want people to sacrifce their throat and voice for a movie but atleast get a voice actor to try and replicate her voice instead of this shitty edited voice that sounds "demon voice #3" on a ameturer film students youtube film, also, atleast reuse some audio clips from the original with the demon using other peoples voice, I think itd he cool to see Chris and the demon come face to face and it start saying "mother! make it stop" in Regan's voice, and since we know Pazuzu was a menace in the first film, cracking latin jokes and whatnot like saying "what an excellent day for an exorcism", so I think with some context, like some doctors give the girls some sedative or something and it doesnt work and Chris is there and Pazuzu says "whats for desert" in Burkes voice, doesnt have to be that but it would be a cool but scary callback, keep up continuity with the demon being able to speak in others voices. Same with the makeup, do something creative like The Exorcist did, dont just give the girls the exact same makeup and scars, make it close to the original while also being realistic and original. I have hope this will be great, but the trailer is not promising. I do like the end part with the flashing black and white like the original theatrical trailer for the orignal movie
The voice of Pazuzu in THE EXORCIST (1973) was supplied by Mercedes McCambridge. A stunning and haunting vocal performance that vastly enhanced the work of child actor Linda Blair as well as the impact of the film's horror.
@@deanlamanna6744 She did alot to get the voice right. I don't want people to have to do what she did because that stuff will cause permanent damage but I atleast want a real person to voice the demon, something that isn't altered on a computer that makes it sound fake. Mercedes was a real one

In order to pay homage to the original film, the filmmakers should absolutely limited cgi and use of effects that just wouldn’t happen. The original was so terrifying by cause for its time all the effects were practical and done right there in front of the actors, I’m so tired of them bringing back characters to make an attempt to tie stories together
Agreed. The first film actually took the notion of possession seriously and didn't reduce it to a cheap horror trope. Nothing connected to the franchise has ever attempted to do that again.
@@sorenpx The first is a slow burn beautifully designed drama horror. Amazing acting and directing. It's easily my all time all genre favorite movie. I was eagerly awaiting the trailer. Tbh I'm heartbroken. 💔
@@allenspice Every sequel has been disappointing. The second sucked badly enough that I just turned it off halfway through, the third was sort of okay as a horror film but not as a sequel to the first movie, and Exorcist: The Beginning was just dull. I never did see the TV show. The first film feels like a film made by people who genuinely believe in demonic possession and in the Christian's ability to defeat it (and as I understand it, that is true for Blatty, who was a serious Catholic). The rest are just "horror movies." If you haven't read the book, you should check it out. I read it a number of years ago and thought it was quite good.
@@sorenpx XD Favorite all time all genre movie? Of course I own the book. Blatty said his whole premise was what would an atheist have to go through to seek the help of the church. That was what he ran with. The account that the book was inspired by was said to be nothing more than a spoiled little boy. Other than an exorcism taking place, not much else was taken from the incident. But the movie and book are great. Absolutely top tier for me. 👍 👍
Linda Blair is listed in the cast for this. Personally, I'm betting the demon is wanting Reagan. And her mother has spent all this time trying to protect her from it. I bet the demon will kill the mother at the end, and that's when Reagan will show up...for the funeral. Then it will end...leading us to the second part of the trilogy, where she will go against it to try to save these girls and ultimately herself.
I could be totally wrong! Lol. Never know. I just know demons are known for trickery. And also the part where the little girl says "God played a trick on you..." and "MOTHER" written on the wall in blood makes me think this demon is trying to get back to Reagan. It would also explain Reagan not being in (the majority) of part 1...Ms. McNeil has been (still) trying to protect her daughter by learning all she can in the field of exorcisms. I think the demon has spent 50 years trying to reach her. I'm betting Linda Blair will be heavily involved in parts 2 and 3... because I believe this the continuation and final chapter to her story, as well as these girls. Part 2 is called "Deceiver," which would definitely be a good title for that setup. 😁✝️🧟♀️
Also I read an article where when David Gordon Green was asked if Linda Blair was involved, he sidestepped the question and did reveal where she was on set and ultimately served as a producer and lending her ideas to the project and how valuable it was to have her...soooo yeah. I'm betting she's more involved than they want us to think. Which is a good plan.
The first film was a stone-cold classic that played things straight and took its subject matter seriously. The series since has just devolved into cheap standard horror entertainment that bares little resemblance to its forebear. What a shame.
3 seconds in: oh no… 16 seconds: Oh nooo… 23 seconds in **Scary Vine Boom**: OH NO… **silence** “honey you been gone 3 days”: OOOOH NOOOOO. 46 seconds: DON’T YOU TRY AND NOSTALGIA BAIT ME WITH THE THEME HOLLYWOOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY FAVOURITE MOVIE EVER?!
I'm hopeful, but I'm seeing too much modern horror stuff thrown in here. The "BUM!" when she's standing there. The "they go missing for days and come back different". The "its the same demon again". The Exorcist is terrifying because its subdued, normal, almost documentary approach to telling the story. It was about people at its core and how they deal with faith and the unknown (or unknowable). No major jumps accompanied by orchestral blasts. There are a few jumps in it, but they are mostly steady shots with no music (rattling in the attic, a jump cut to Reagan screaming, the snap of the head as it finishes its full turn). Finally the makeup for their possessed state gives me questions, primarily the upside-down crosses carved in their foreheads. All of Reagans wounds were and looked self-inflicted. Do each of the girls pull out razors to carve the crosses? Why are they divots and not fresh wounds? I'll give them this: They definitely look like they are trying to capture what the original had, but I think horror tropes from the last 40 years have crept into it and pushed them to "make a scary movie" instead of "telling a scary story". I'm hoping I'm wrong and my favorite (and what I consider to be the most terrifying) horror movie gets a solid sequel, but right now it looks like it could be a fine enough scary movie but nowhere near the level the original was.
The trailer does look good, however you will never beat the original. Hopefully the movie does not flop and is not over exaggerated or far fetched. ( far fetched/exaggerated is what ruins films these days ) Keep it as close to the original as possible then you may have the best horror movie since the original itself! Looks pretty good though! Deffinately cant wait to watch it.

There's some cool aspects to this. I don't think I've ever seen the idea of two victims used before, not like this. I'm a bit of a horror movie snob but... I actually will give this one a chance. The original scared me to Hell and back when I was 12 years old back in 2009. I know this one won't even hold a candle to the original regardless, but still looks cool.
This is going to be crazy! Can't wait to see it in the theatre with my friends!
Idk man imo it just looks like a cheap made movie simply for money I could be wrong tho
Enjoy your fake cringe movie 😂
The Exorcist is such an iconic movie. Hopefully this is good well.
“Have you ever seen anything like this?”
Yes. At the women’s march
😂😂
Looks like your typical Blumhouse glossy, CGI filled, jumpscare drivel. What made the original so good was it’s slow build up and practical effects. I hope it’s good but am not setting my expectations high.
I love the scene where the dogs are fighting, confusion happens everywhere around the devil is.
Right!!! That's why our border looks the way that it does. The devil IS there
But thing is the original was shocking because stuff like that was never done in horror before so this has a lot to live up to
Right. Nothing will get the notarized like the original. It was shocking cause never done before. 🤷
They can never leave well enough alone.
It’s not always about the SCARY scenes, it’s more mind thrilling..and those black and white flashes at the end of the face… creepy
That’s what got me
It also helps to have a director who knows the ins and outs of the possession scene, the Bible, and having been around in 1973 and witness what a movie can do to an audience world wide. Many people had issues after seeing the original that it really baffles some of the strongest minds
It’s just a copy of the original movie trailer😂 Nothing new
@@stuewz yeh still creepy lol
Me scrolling UA-cam: "I'm intrigued"🤔🤔🤔
Me seeing The Mother: "You have my attention"🤗🤗🤗
The only difference being that they have the "Legacy" element which will either make or break the movie, and another difference i see is that they will try to use other means of religious help instead of strictly catholic/christian
Im glad to see Chris McNeil back, I wouldve preferred Linda Blair but I understand why she doesnt, but I hate Legacy movies, there are only a few I actually think did the legacy element right.
LETS GOOOOOOOO !!!!! I hope this is good cause I honestly didn’t care for the Halloween movies
well you got the same writer and director...
“From the Director of Halloween Ends…”
Lol
I really liked ends
Very excited! Loved David and Blumhouses Halloween trilogy so really looking forward to these ones!
Imo it doesn't really look good too me I haven't seen the original exersist but I'm sure it's almost impossible to be just as or as better as the first one just my opinion tho
@@nateblanch5045 It does look like it will have your typical over the top paranormal film moments, but I'm still sure it will be above average compared to others in the subgenre just based on the team behind this films previous work and how much I loved those. There are still ideas and moments from this trailer that look really interesting to me. The original is pretty good, it's slow but definitely done well and worth checking out for any horror fan.
nothings going to beat the original but i am so looking forward to this
I can only imagine the things that occurred on set, while trying to film this movie! It's absolutely wild that they are trying to open up this door again!
They aren't doing any actual conjuring or anything like that
I know! I wonder if anything happened like it did on the original movie set back in the 70s. I'm so glad the mum is back.
Lol nothing. It was a a regular movie. I know tons of people who worked on this.
You are aware its not a documentary, right?
don’t mess with that stuff.
Can't wait to see this, i hope it does its self justice and more interesting is too see Linda Blair among the casts...... I hope Regan has some good screen time, i Can't wait to see Regan and Pazunu reunited again after all this time. 😍
They didn't show her in the trailer right?
Some movies haunt your dreams, this one blurs the line between nightmare and reality. Keep the lights on... if you think it'll help. 😱🕯
Looks like David Gordon Green will get props for ruining another horror franchise.
I thought the halloween trilogy was great
First reaction: "Oh Lord, why?!" Enter Dowd and Burstyn. "Grab-My-Popcorn !!!"
There might be hope for this movie, they got the mom to come back. 👍
shes like 90. cameo and then killed
And Linda Blair is back also
that never means its good lol
@@jamesmartin7280 so I heard.
TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, THE BLESSED INCLUSION !!!
The Exorcist novel is based on a real case of a black boy who was supposedly possessed. Inclusion vs exclusion? 😉
Nothing will ever match up to the original . Good to hear tubular bells in this trailer .
Tubular bells intro...goosebumps...
Please stop giving away the whole plot in the trailer!!!
How extremely disappointing. The realism has been taken out. The fight for the soul of your next door neighbor is completely gone. I'm actually sad. 😢
The rest are just "horror movies."
If you haven't read the book, you should check it out.
Don't be sad. Just don't watch it.
Looks better than i was expecting!
This actually looks good. Please be a step up from the other horror movies being produced.
I can't say that this trailer piques my interest in seeing it
That looks AWESOME... and kudos to Linda Blair... It's awesome to see you again...
I can tell already that the original one is 10x scarier than this.
I’m here to watch this entire comment unfold 😂
that’s probably the only good movie theory i’ve heard in my entire life. hopefully this happens !!!
Boring
I hope it's half as good as The Exorcist, one of my all-time favorite films. I'd be happy with that 😃
We saw this trailer before Oppenheimer, people in the crowd were laughing so loud. I thought it was a comedy.
The first film was a stone-cold classic that played things straight and took its subject matter seriously. The series since has just devolved into cheap standard horror entertainment that bares little resemblance to its forebear. What a shame.
3 seconds in: oh no…
16 seconds: Oh nooo…
23 seconds in **Scary Vine Boom**: OH NO…
**silence** “honey you been gone 3 days”: OOOOH NOOOOO.
46 seconds: DON’T YOU TRY AND NOSTALGIA BAIT ME WITH THE THEME HOLLYWOOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY FAVOURITE MOVIE EVER?!
Why is there always a grandma in these new horror films that knows everything about the topic lmao
This has a lot of potential.
( far fetched/exaggerated is what ruins films these days )
Keep it as close to the original as possible then you may have the best horror movie since the original itself!
Looks pretty good though! Deffinately cant wait to watch it.
This is hilarious.....actually funny.....about as scary as Back To The Future.
gen z horror bs
It's like a parody a comedy
So my childhood fear is coming back to haunt me at 28 lol.
I'm willing to give this movie a chance and yes i've seen the original exorcist and it was a pretty good psychological thriller.
thriller is underselling it. it was a horror.

Yeah. Exorcist 3 is criminally undrrated. Prolly because the 2nd one was so bad.
Exorcist III is watchable but it's still nowhere near as good as the first film and resorts to cheap horror tropes to tell its story.

Does the bible say Jesus Christ had the ability to remove evil demon spirits from human beings?
In 1973, it was a huge hit for people watch the horror movie “The Exorcist” at the theater and the people can’t stand the movie and it was very frightening/disturbing movie ever made. Now the nightmare is back and it will be more frightening than the first.

There's some cool aspects to this. I don't think I've ever seen the idea of two victims used before, not like this. You companies really need to learn how to get a trailer done in less than a minute though. You shouldn't be showing a summary of the whole movie right up to the final scenes. For me, it really does lessen my interest since I feel I know all the twists and major plot points. The mystery of a trailer counts for a lot.
I would love to check this on movie theatre, but I can already imagine all the teenagers ruining the mood.
