The real confusion comes in when it's revealed that Matt's playing Cribbage.
And has a lot of meeples for some reason.
Extremely on brand for LRR, considering the AFK opening video.
I miss the stinger
Or just "I Fold"
goats love cabbage, what's the confusion?
Alright I deeply need to know where in the scripting/publishing process it was decided to insert the poker/blackjack dissonance to mess with people
I see the gang has been playing Balatro.
No, thats Magic: the Gathering
@@DisregardedHappiness and using a MTG card while playing blackjack during "poker night" is exactly what Balatro is.
I think you'd enjoy it.
@Crocogator I was joking. It really isn't. That's not a good way to describe Balatro.
Dungeons and degenerates is far closer to what you've described. It is a blackjack roguelike, and it literally has mtg cards (with the numbers filed off) that you add to your deck
@@DisregardedHappiness You're right, Balatro needs a card like divining top. That'd be sick
My only question is why is it poker night when this seems to be blackjack
Maybe Matt's playing poker.
I think that is part of the joke here? They are playing Blackjack, Nelly Magic so they name it Poker.
@@PartisanGamerDEThis legitimately makes me wonder how many card games you could mash up into one while simultaneously using the same deck of cards.
Magic is out, clearly, since that uses different cards. But I could see a group of four, two playing poker, and two playing blackjack, from the same deck working.
There are definitely elements of poker in it though. Cam is holding a card so that no one else can see it, that's a poker thing not a blackjack thing
What are you on about, it's clearly Magic.
"12"
"Havent got any. Go fish."
Looks like Nelson is on some sort of UR commander control deck. Not sure what his wincon is but he's clearly digging for something.
probably Sharpened Pitchfork since that's one of mtg's best pokers
These Balatro jokers be gettin' WEIRD.
I was expecting "hit me" *slap* and not this genius!
Viking Secret Wild Card Poker indeed.
Despite watching so many James Bond movies, I still can't follow Baccarat.
Everybody else is messed up in the card game confluence and I'm just like "how did you get the aspect ratio to fit my ultrawide monitor are we letterbox now?"
It's great because it's not letterbox.
@@iluvatardis8804Well, except for youtube's auto-letterboxing
I was so confused by the aspect ratio as well
This is why the dealer always needs to keep bounce spells in their hand
12? Clearly set up to counter that scion of draco...
oddly enough, the bit that really gets me isn't that they're playing blackjack, it's that the players have a facedown card, which isn't done since blackjack is only the player hand vs the dealer who makes no choices, so there's no reason for the player to have a hidden card. XD
... when I’ve played blackjack, there has been a face down card. I don’t remember why. I guess the person who got the highest total without going over was declared the winner? Yeah, I think that was how we played it.
@@drdca8263 if it's a player vs player variant then it can be run that way, but when there's a "house" and dealer, as there is in the video, there's no reason to.
@@thejackscraft3472 *shrug* we still had someone playing the role of the dealer iirc.
I suppose a card being hidden from other players makes card counting harder? Not that any of us knew could count cards...
Wait no, it gets revealed at the end, so it doesn’t help with that...
... I don’t know what we were doing
@@drdca8263 As long as you were having fun then there's nothing wrong with changing how a game is played.
It may be Baccarat.
good old viking secret wildcard poker
I'm surprised you didn't have one of those tinted green visor things for Ian to wear!
Yeah whatever happened to the one Seth McDebit wore?
I need a deep dive of the taxonomie of Crapshots and Sick Rips and the decision process of how much Magic knowledge is required to move you from one category to the other
Im sick today, so thank you LRR for the hearty laugh
Wow, I needed that laugh. Totally caught me off-guard
"I top."
This was much funnier than it had any right to be
This is exactly what I would expect from you guys.
So many levels! It's delightful.
I always love the crapshots! 😂
Man, these new rule changes to Viking Secret Wildcard Poker are awfully unbalanced in favour of artifiact decks.
(Man, hitting the deepcut reference with "Poker Before Dusk" here)
Just good, clean comedy
Best game of poker ive ever watched.
Ultrawide crapshot
All that setup, popping the top, and he puts a fucking TWO on top of the deck. Possibly a safe play but also I think not a great one.
I couldn't see his hand but if he had 10 to begin with it's definitely for comedic purpose lol
Either both the other cards bust him, or they both bust the other players.
I'm on the fence if that would be funnier if Ians final line there instead of just being 12 was "you go to 12" or "you're at 12" similar to a way that someone would refer to a life total
The little I've learned about Balatro makes me think Viking Secret Wildcard Poker so it's right for this crapshot to exist
Poker Before Dusk type beat
Was it Vaevictus or Chromium in the original PBD?
@@SamanthaVess Vaevictis Asmadi, but the commentators did mention Chromium in passing when the former card came up on the knuckle
It would appear that calvinball has a tabletop variant.
A sequel, 700 episodes later.
This is gold 😂😂😅
Another great crapshot.
Everybody on a different game tonight.
Isn't this just Balatro?
Sensei's Divining Joker would be so cool.
What is Balatro
Probably closer to Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers... it's pretty damn close to Balatro but Blackjack
how was this not already a video?
That actually sounds like a fun game
Would 100% watch the combined games. With everyone playing both games at once.
This is just Balatro
I almost wish it just ended after Nelly's first line (which I shan't spoil)
Haha that was unexpected and good.
Texas Hold'Em Party Box
Clear rules violation from Nelson, that is not his library.
I don't know why people are questioning the blackjack/poker mixture. If they, as Canadians, have their own rules for Highlander then it makes sense that they would have their own rules for blackjack and poker. Which is, obviously, combine the two.
I'd joke an indie dev is furiously coding this idea into a game, but Balatro is already here
Oh it just ends after that!?!
Ah, the twelve of hearts.
Just goes to show you can Top wrong, juat like you can Brainstorm wrong.
How come this is an actual Crapshot and not a Sick Rips?
So he declared his intent before divining, so he would have still needed to take the card if it would have busted him.
Nelson, you're a judge; you should know better than to think you can hold priority immediately after giving it to your opponent and seeing their reaction. ;)
This is why you don't play blackjack on CounterTop
🤣
obviously his face down creature is a Krosan Colossus
Might as well have called this sketch Baccarat.
nah, Baccarat is obscure enough in canada and america that if they named it that it would probably be funnier for them to actually be playing Baccarat.
@thejackscraft3472 eh. Having the sketch be called poker when it's blackjack is confusing and not terribly funny in my opinion. I'm guessing others find it amusing, I just didn't.
😂
Should have tapped Top and put it on top of the deck.
Ah a card game I understand, no not that one.
Twelve? 😂😂😂
Was there a debate over putting this out as a Sick Rip instead of a Crapshot? 😅
Apparently the Top only works when you play 4 card draw... who knew...
There are so many things going on...
I expect the third person to be playing Yugioh at this point.
Nah, Lorcana. Plays A Whole New World to make the whole table wheel and reset
Toooo much poker....
I mean, to be fair, nobody says "blackjack night"
ah, but my 12 still beats your anti-wild joker. So I'll raise your twist into a flip, and you better hope i don't have an Elder Dragon in my pocket!
Please, why does he say "Twelve?" all confused like that? I lost the joke. Help!
What is the 12 at the end supposed to be?
That's the worst number to be at in blackjack, as a 10, J, Q, or K on the next card would cause him to bust.
@@Marc-Davis But it's poker night...
@@Marc-DavisOh, I recognized it as the value of the blackjack cards, but missed that it was a *bad* value. What's Nelson playing at? 😂
@@kilo3989 I mean, he knows what the next card is, 12 might be just the right spot.
@@thejackscraft3472
And you call it steamed poker despite the fact it is obviously blackjack.
is this some new type of poker and if so i need the rules
See you might think this is poor play, but Nelly's just setting Matt up for failure AND mindgaming Cam into passing him the 9 he needs to get 21.
No one is going to point out they seem to be playing blackjack in a video titled poker night?
Thats clearly euchre not poker
JUDGE!!! you can't look at your opponents deck with top.
since everyone gets cards from it, it's a single shared deck, like judges tower.
@@thejackscraft3472 he was still in possession of his own deck so I thought the blackjack deck would be treated like a planechase deck. Would love to top one of those.
@@SilverDrgn14 plausible, but since he's the only one with a personal deck I would view it more as his mtg deck is the side deck (like a contraption deck) and the shoe is his main deck.
@@thejackscraft3472 Thank you judge. Hit me!
Huh, didn't realize that in Canada Blackjack is called Poker. Adding that to things I know about Canada, like their Thanksgiving is at a weird time and their bacon is circular
You already did that joke.
When?
@@drdca8263 episode 62: The Cards.
@@paulchapman8023 thanks!
Same concept, different jokes.
