I love Mega and two things can true. He got shout outs but the one on arguably the greatest album of all time definitely propelled him into another realm. That’s a positive thing. He always tries to dismiss the weight of it
@blueflame3531 how many people have had record deals??? I work with 2 lol a record deal aint 💩 what song did cormega have bubbling before one love and affirmative action it's clear his ego is outta control and why nas had to separate from him it's called jealousy on the low...
When "The True Meaning" came out, it was the only album besides Styles P's "A gangers and a gentleman"" which I could listen to from front 2 back w/o skipping. I bumped both albums heavy that summer!
I bought a ticket to see Mobb Deep. Mega came outta nowhere took over the show. Classic QB machine gun rap style, but unique the way his bars flow together.
I like Mega but I would’ve never heard of ya without that Shoutout fam..I’m still not a big fan but yeah I rock with ya from time to time..look he down plays it, but it’s definitely helped him
Refreshing and heartening to hear the long-overdue respect and shout out to Haiti! They defeated a European colonial enterprise at the height of the latter's power, and have been blackballed ever since. Shout out to the fact that they were the inspiration for the slave rebellions here in the state's; and the oppressors were literally terrified of the pending connection between their rebellious ''property", and those islanders. Shout out to the same old story of American success being the result of one type stealing from others--and in this case, getting a famous university named after them. It's no surprise so many hateful and dumb@ss schools in the south (especially but not specifically) can't jump through hoops fast enough to keep these truths from being taught.
To me Cormega is the best QB MC. And i love Nas and Prodigy. You can easily hear his influence in their work. To me he is the better storyteller, maybe because he lived it, it is so visual and heartfelt that it hurts the heart. Definitely the most underrated MC, the definition of street poet.
Honestly Nas was the bridge for me to listen to QB rappers... I'm from South Africa so I wouldn't be privy to obscure facts of Cormega BEFORE illmatic but with the internet as the years went by, there's sources that confirm him predating illmatic, then the questions is did he had a buzz that surpassed live at the barberque? It's not a false equivalence but I understand his frustrations about how people downplay his work or try to eclipse it with Nas... He did well for himself against all odds before him... 🇿🇦
Love Mega and I get how frustrating that could be. But Jesus you have a whole ass three verse song on your first album with the concept that youre writing him back. Like the whole song was about you on some you made it a hot line I made it a hot song shit. He kept your name popping giving you an unofficial credit of sorts on whats arguably the greatest hip hop album of all time. Then put you in his group and on his second, crossover multi platinum album thats a classic on his own right. Beef kept your name buzzing although you were putting out stellar work and you're an incredible artist in you're own right. Then you reconciled and after his King's Disease/Magic Series netting you another feature on a important Hip Hop album, theres buzz about the possibility of a Firm reunion album. Be real. Its much easier to create a buzz than it is to maintain it. Nas sure a as shit helped you maintain it. Be glad people arent taking the time to point that out and instead are talking about one line in 1994.
It did tho there literally no way around that cormega even went as far as responding to one love with his on record and the song was clearly not even about him lol "waddup wit cormega did you see him are yall together" clearly talking about someone else and cormega rode the shot out its nothing wrong with that but he can't deny nas impact in any way shape form or fashion
It's ok if Nas put you on. Stop fighting that. He said the right name because you are dope. But I never would have checked for you. Never. But glad I did. Give Nas his props and let it be.
No disrespect to Cormega. I like his rhymes. I'm from the West Coast. I never heard of him until Nas shouted him out. Then I paid attention to him. That's just the reality of it. Doesn't mean we don't know hip-hop on this side. Nas just gave you a wider audience. Because I bought anything that I had Queensbridge on it. I even had the lakey the kid album. 😅 the only reason is because of Nas. Facts.
It feels good to see the culture giving Mega his flowers.. For many years it felt as though he was under-appreciated, especially given his talents.
Yea facts 👍🏾
He was essentially blackballed for many years due to Steve Stout
Mega and nas relationship is like mase and cam relationship these dudes was brothers
I love Mega and two things can true. He got shout outs but the one on arguably the greatest album of all time definitely propelled him into another realm. That’s a positive thing. He always tries to dismiss the weight of it
Cuz people try to act like that's what got him the record deal like he didn't already have things moving.
If you listened to The Realness, you realize its Mega's talent that got him his shine. How many guys rapped with big artists but are forgotten?

Cormega is one of the greatest rappers of all time. Every album is a classic especially his early stuff.
When "The True Meaning" came out, it was the only album besides Styles P's "A gangers and a gentleman"" which I could listen to from front 2 back w/o skipping. I bumped both albums heavy that summer!
Talib Kweli conducts interviews great. Cormega gives great interviews. Salute to both these great lyricists.
Thanks for the shouts! Love is love!

My dead homie thought mega was wack and that song was the only good song he made..
Please excuse him Eminem was his favorite rapper 🤦♂️
There's no greater understanding than for those supporting Uproxx to
guard ourselves from the hype with this good music.

Fallen soldiers - Cormega is 1 of my fav tracks of all time.
Cornega song The Realness and collab song with Mobb Deep What's Ya Poison are his sickest songs ever. The Realness beat super dope

Dead man walking
Illest instrumental of all time
Jay know...thats why he went on that beat on lyrical exercise
Its like when biggie shouted marley marl now generations later know his name
WTF?! Marley Marl was already known as a producer in the late 80s. Way before Biggie was known. Check his discography!

Haiti attempted to free the slaves. And having their money stolen was deep. Thank you for sharing. Researching
I can’t find any good articles on it. Do you have any links or books about it?
