This was fantastic! Very interesting how the non ferrous metal is actually affected by the magnet, I had no idea. I going to try a long exposure shot with one of these and the light patterns , thanks 👍🏻
It’s affected by the magnet because the moving magnetic field produces electric currents in the metal, which in turn create opposing magnetic fields in the metal. It’s the same effect as when you drop a magnet down a copper pipe; the magnet will fall slowly even though the copper is non-magnetic.
So glad that wasn't a random question on a dynamics test. Would have been ugly. Cool to see the wave pattern when the light was shined. Interesting. Just watching your videos and not having to write a lab about it is fantastic. haha

This is likely do to major and minor axial rotation and how much energy is required to stay in each. I find it interesting he didn't talk about that fact. The minor axis is unstable and will slowly degrade into the major axis as energy is lost. This is why a football that is spinning throw the air perfectly will slowly start to fan out because it no longer has enough energy of rotation to maintain the minor axis.
You can get it to stand up with neodymium magnets by gluing two to a small air-conditioner fan directly opposite each other and then setting the platform up directly above it.
Cool video. I'd like to see what it looks like spinning in the dark with one of your lasers! (LOVE) ~ Also, still sucks for many UA-camrs where I keep clicking, "ALL NOTIFICATIONS" and then click save, but only a few pages are actually saving. - Enjoying your site, it keeps saying, "Occasional." p.s. Try the laser light on it to see how cool that looks!

Now that was cool, absolutely fascinating : ) Do you know how the golden ratio comes into play, it’s so weird how much it is entwined into much of our world. I use it every day as a graphic designer, humans subconsciously find it very pleasing. The romans and Greeks used it in their architecture. What was the music, I really liked it?
I was wondering if "Tesla's Egg" was a misnomer, as he mostly worked with electricity, not gryoscopoc effects. Minute 3:25 cleared this up nicely. Telsa gets so much publicity for the work that he did with electricity; it's cool to see instead something done with such physics!
It was a really great presentation of an aluminum egg. I just don’t understand why you needed a separate separate small table under it. Wouldn't it be possible without it?
I have something like that except it's like a Top that turns upside down as you spin it.And it also turns at a weird direction due to the minimal friction
It should be noted, that this comment is specifically referring to the light patterns at around 5:20 in the video. They don't show up as a solid line if you're not at 720p60fps or higher.
If it was shot at a lower frame rate, they would still appear as lines at the lower rate. But this was shot at 60fps. Dropping every other frame breaks up the lines. The frames could be merged and preserve the lines, but that takes a lot more processing power than UA-cam is willing to spend on creating multiple stream rates for every video.
I have a strong magnet in this shape. I wonder if it affects how the magnet works? I DID find out that if stuck to a long vertical metal surface and spun, it will keep spinning, getting faster as it rides down the surface.
That was so cool! Hey I used to have this carved piece of ebony that was shaped to a point on each end and long, kinda like a banana but it was ..not sure how to describe the shape. It was as I said pointed on the ends to a round point on each end and bottom and to[ sides were not flat but had a gentle arch. It was polished to a shine. If you spun it, I think it was clockwise, then it would spin for a long time but if you tried to make it spin the other it wouldn’t spin at all. Any idea why? Darn I wish I still had it.
I'm probably wrong but this really feels like it has more to do with the energy it takes to rotate when it's mass is farther from the point of rotation
Raise your hand if you watched the egg spin beginning to end at the end 🙋

Everything is magnetic to different degrees.

Drop a magnet through the middle of a roll of aluminum foil. (over a soft surface so you won't shatter the magnet)
So this is the secret of the infinite spin and the golden ratio

try to reflect and project one of your lasers on this egg. Maybe you can even project on fluorescent canvas and we can see some figures.

It would be very interesting to watch that egg spin with only a laser pointer
as the sole source of light, pointed at a single spot on it.

The spinning effect looked like the Ames window of sorts.
From another angle it also looked kinda like a worm moving.
starting from 7:03 looks like the matrix started glitching. There are some briefly flashing horizontal lines, like a broken raster image or CRT TV.
Start blinking your eyes really fast while it’s spinning on it’s side it is super trippy
