    Just an unsolicited thought. Wrap the exposed edges of your sharp spudger with some electrical tape or at least a couple layers of masking tape. You may also consider stiffening it up by taping it to you stiff spudger leaving 8mm or so exposed to penetrate and pry with. I acknowledge you got it without these thoughts but surely taping up the edges rather than slicing one's fingertips would be preferable. Keep up the great work and being an inspiration.

    It’s been a while since I watched your repairs - I didn’t stop liking them, I guess I just ‘had my fill’ after seeing you do so many. I was curious when I saw that you’d attempted to repair an apple watch though, so I decided to have a look, and wow… Amazing work Vince! You made it look so easy, I’m super impressed! Never would have thought a repair like that would even be possible, it gave me a big smile when I saw you actually using the watch after. It’s also nice to see that your commentary is as pleasant to listen to as it always was. Thanks for continuing to share your repairs with us!

    Your skill at dealing with all these stupid glues and tapes without breaking anything is getting really impressive! I wonder if applying low melt to each pin then low temperature hot air (warm air? 🤔) would be enough to remove those connectors or if they would melt first?

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Jessica, maybe it would have worked. Annoyingly there was also a ground solder point under both the left and right hand side near the front of the connector that the soldering iron couldn't reach, so even with low melt on the other accessible solder points I think it would have still struggled to come off.

      @@Mymatevince I think it is done by using a heat pad under a screen to 120 C and then gently with a heat gun you remove this connector

    I love that fix it mentality at the end. If it's broken. Give it a shot. The only things that will happen is either you fix it and learn something or you don't fix it and maybe learn something. Even if you completely and royally mess up something like I have done in the past. You gain experience. I ripped traces the first time I tried to remove a USB port. The second time I removed a USB port. It worked beautifully. The third time I had different tools and I ripped a trace. But I persevered and was able to repair that trace. Basically, if it's broken and you like fixing stuff where you watch these UA-camrs. Try to fix it. The worst you can do is not fix it

  • @jonathanmartin3375
    @jonathanmartin3375 9 місяців тому

    Some people just like to criticize. I'm amazed you even tried to solder those tiny, tiny wires, much less succeeded! Even putting on a new connector would have been very difficult, but you did the even more difficult soldering!

    I have the original model of Apple Watch. I have been using it daily for almost exactly five years (within five days from that mark) and just yesterday, the screen popped off. I had seen some stuff about that happening to older models, so I wasn't really surprised. I took off the screen and removed the battery last night, and the battery was very puffy. I covered it in clear tape with most of the parts removed and I think it looks cooler now. Unfortunately, it can no longer track my activity. I would like to repair it soon, but I'm really not sure if I will since it is a really old model.
    Also, I have heard about the newer models of Apple Watches having so many different problems (as your video shows), that I don't want to upgrade to a new Apple Watch. I don't think I would like it as much.

    Very nice repairs, interesting to see what's inside these things.
    It's very inspiring to watch these videos indeed, for example about month ago I decided to try if my 1989 Citizen wrist watch still works, bought a battery for it and noticed the little contact spring between the electronics and the piezo speaker is missing, so made a tiny conductive part from metal staple, and the beep sounds started working :) Digital clock works, but the analogue watch started working after couple of days, stayed in sync with the digital clock about 1,5 weeks, and then started falling behind. I'm guessing mechanically it's ok condition, but perhaps lubrication has become a bit sticky in 34 years :P

    when replacing the screen (glass part ) with the OCA glue you put the glue in the center of the screen and place the new glass on top and it pushs the air out with just the weight of the new glass , you dont need a special machine to them , most of the time a machine is only need when seperating the glass from the screen but have seen people change them without the maching but is a bit of a pain and time consuming.
