Vinny Appice is one of the best drummers out there, period, then and now.
Totally agree
Extremely underrated. Try and play his fills note for note. Good luck
Up there with Moon and Baker.
@@kevinbirge2130 totally agree
For sure one of the best, knew when to be slick, when to be a caveman, and when to shut up and let someone else shine.
Classy guy...
I can't believe it's been 12 yrs since the greatest hard rock vocalist left this earth...🥺
What a humble guy ." I just like to play but DIO deserved so much better " like he's a nobody . Real dude .
Vinnie might seem humble, but I've had personal experiences that show a different side of him. He's been quite hostile to fans and even sent me hate mail for posting videos of his performances.
Met Vinnie on a flight from San Diego to Florida along with Ronnie Dio both nice guys very outgoing. We had a great conversation in Dallas on a layover. Ronnie even got me seats on the floor for his show in Hollywood, Florida just a great memory. I was in the Marines back then 1982 or 1983.
What a great memory!
While your encounter with Vinnie was positive, my experience has been the opposite. He sent me hate mail and struck my account for posting videos of his band, showing a less friendly side.
For me, Dehumanizer is on the same level as Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules. "I" is a top 5 all time Dio and Sabbath song.
Agreed 💯
Agreed 🚨🚨🚨
Dehumanizer was a F Heavy Album with Amazing songs. Comp God, Time Machine, TV crime, I, Master of Insanity, After all, Burried Alive, Sins of the Father. ❤🤘
Glad to hear Vinny speaking that high about Dehumanizer, it is indeed a great heavy and dark album and normally it gets no so great critics, as he mentions, probably because of the timing and also the experience between members at that time... but amazing album. My first listening Dio and I recall thinking (as a latinamerican) wow, I can understand the lyrics, and this guy sings amazing.
Fun fact: there is a second version of Dehumanizer with vocals by Tony Martin. That partucular version of the album was ready to release in case things didn't work out with Ronnie, but never was.
There is a live version of "Computer God" available on UA-cam with Tony singing, and is clear proof that Martin was every bit as good of a vocalist as Ronnie was. Its a shame he was blacklisted by Sharon Osbourne, as that album version will most likely never be released.
I saw Dio at a commercial low point. He played a theater that seated about 1K people. It was a f'ng awesome show though. He still put 100% into it.
Same , saw DIO in Lancaster PA it was a small venue but WoW was it Awesome 👌🏻 had to look it up , I think it was the Village Night Club
Me also . 300 capacity at best . Jannus landing , St Pete, FL . awesome show . whole band gives there all wether arena or small club .
Ronnie put the fans 1st it didn't matter if there was 5
people or 5 thousand like the song says "WE ROCK" and RONNIE JAMES DIO did exactly that he ROCKED RIP RJD😢
Doubt Vinny remembers, but I taught him Networking Essentials at a Computer School in the late 90's. Drove him home one night and talked about the BS reunion tour. He is an awesome drummer and an awesome person.
It's interesting to hear about your experience, but my interactions with Vinnie have been far from positive. He attacked me online for sharing videos of his performances, which was quite disappointing.
Mob Rules..possibly best produced Sabbath album..ever
Listen to Vinnie's signature sound on Turn up the Night. Fantastic drummer and a very nice man. People like Vinnie deserve all the success they get
Great Song.
The Mob Rules album has the best sounding drums out of all Black Sabbath albums and it wasn't even from Bill Ward.
Went to a gig where Vinny got burnt when the dry ice machine blew up ,stafford hall in Bingley UK in the early 80s,40 mins break and at the end of the show it took 4 hours to drive 60 miles home when the snow set in .Would do it all again tomorrow.
The Appice Bros 2 of the greatest drummers ! 👍
Vinny Appice...bad ass drummer!!🥁
Vinnie is definitely a skilled drummer, but his behavior towards fans can be problematic. He sent me hate mail and struck my account for sharing videos of his performances.
I am sincerely happy that he was clear on how to pronounce his last name. I have often wondered about it.
I think the joke is that he and his brother pronounce it differently as well haha
I know, I always thought it was "App-eechay".
Vinny is a UNDER APPRECIATED legend! I'd love to read a tell all book by this guy!
I’ve been listening to Mob Rules again after 20 some years, Vinnie is a monster on the drums !!! So much to keep up with Black Sabbath and DIO… how does he keep all the songs in order??!!! Thank you so much Vinnie for your gift!!!
Vinnie's musical talent is impressive, but my personal experience with him shows a different side. He attacked me online and sent hate mail over shared content, which isn't something a legend should do.
Not only is Vinnie such a nice and down to Earth Bloke, but he´s my fav. HardRock/Metal Drummer. Just watch him play. There´s so much Passion there when he hits the Skins.....
Awesome stories about Ronnie James Dio
Vinnie is one of the greatest drummers, with an intense good taste, is nice to see he also a humble person
Heaven & Hell, w/.Megadeth & Down, was a killer concert , watched it from floor real close up front, it was a treat to see Dio w/ Tony, Geezer & Vinnie
Carmine should have told his brother that Sharon would have ripped him off!
🥱🥱
Vinny is a very humble dude. Gotta love it.
Vinnie and Ronnie the dynamic duo
One of my favorite drummers. Period. Saw Dio on the Last in Line Tour in Hawai'i. It was like Rainbow and Sabbath had a lovechild. Such an incredible show. I will never, ever forget RJD's voice and Vinny's drums that night...
I can only think of maybe 4 drummers that when you hear them ,you know who they are ,for instance, Carmina Apice sounds like any other drummer ,but when Vinny plays ,you know it's definitely Vinny Apice playing, like when you hear John Bonham, you know it's him ,
Vinnie's drumming skills are undeniable, but his treatment of fans leaves much to be desired. He went out of his way to attack me online for sharing content related to his band.
Vinny, you guys KICKED ASS, and you ALWAYS WILL!!! Thanks for all the great music you guys gave us, and never stop! RIP Ronnie.
Thankful that they played clubs in the 90s, because I was able to see them up close, and met them afterward! This was when Jeff Pilsen was on bass and Tracy G on guitar. All of them were the nicest guys, especially RJD, and signed autographs. Of the many times I’d seen Dio, that show was the best because of Pilsen’s harmony vocals with RJD. It took it to another level!
I'm fortunate to share the same birthday as Ronnie, just different years. On my birthday, I always say a little prayer for him and wish him a happy birthday.
Yes, it’s amazing to note that Ronnie has been gone for going on 12 years now. I remember the day he passed
Black Sabbath forming was one of the greatest things for heavy metal. Ozzy being fired from Black Sabbath was one of the greatest things for heavy metal. Ronnie James Dio leaving Black Sabbath was one of the greatest things for heavy metal
The prodigy little brother. Glad that he chose Dio. Those albums were epic. Live at the spectrum 84 is epic. Watched it over 100 times. Yeah Oh!
I was at that show.
@@timothydubois5834 I bet that concert reeked of Pot. Sad day when they demolished the spectrum.
I Love Vinny Appice! Not only is he a Great drummer and a Legend, but he is always so nice and humble.
Nice change of pace from his brother.
@@hugolafhugolaf ✌\m/✌
I love dehumanizer. I remember going to that concert, and it was loud and kick ass! I have the CD here right next to me. Dio was my favorite singer in the 80s by far. Great music!
I saw that show in Chicago, had Danzig opening. 2 of my favorite bands together!
@@gregwright9869 * I'm in Indy. Exodus opened here. It was great!
Dio always put on massive stage shows I the 80's
I had the pleasure of playing at the troubadour in the 80s with his brother one night with a jam band for some buddy that was retiring and moving on. Definitely one of the highlights of my career
RIP Ronnie goes without saying
But RIP Jimmy Bain as well
Vinnie was spot on when he said in the 90s, bands started looking like the roadies! I agree completely with Vinnie--there needs to be a balance between what the hair metal guys were doing and grunge, where there was no stage presentation at all, You can entertain an audience without just being "all show and no go", but at the same time, don't go to the other extreme where you don't try to entertain at all--and the bands that came before--AC/DC, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Rainbow---they struck that balance
Main problem is rock n roll stopped being fun. Although I liked AIC and Soundgarden right off the bat.
Preeb very well said.
Odd he never heard of Rainbow. Met him on the Heaven and Hell tour and had a Rainbow album with me for Dio to sign. Ronny never showed up so Vinnie signed it for me lol.
How great is Vinny? Amazing drummer and seems like the nicest guy.
Vinnie is such a cool guy and a bad ass drummer.
Geezer and toni were black sabbath. And Dio and Vinny made black sabbath the pinnacle!!!! Best lineup of sabbath ever!!!
...I agree!!🙌
Also let's give credit to both the underrated Tony Martin and forgotten badass drummer Cozy Powell who had given Sabbath enough life so it didn't die out during the mid and late eighties.
Him and his brother are absolute legends
Last Album with Dio from the Band "Heaven and Hell" was released in 2010, so by no means we are recycling the 80ies!
Awesome interview and I always love infos about Dio and the Sabbath guys! Thanks for sharing!
It's funny how I grew up admiring Carmine as my drum teacher had taken lessons from him so he was the God of drumming to his students. Fast forward 35 years and as a middle aged dude, I've come to the conclusion that I like Vinny's drumming waaaaay more than Carmine. Vinny also seems like his ego is in check and is down to earth whereas big bro Carmine could never really stay with any band longer than 5 years.
I like this guy and he's a great drummer, definitely one of the top 10 all time rock drummers.
Yep, Vinnie is my favorite brother. Way more down to earth. His ego doesn’t seem overblown like Carmine’s
@@the_minimalistic_adventure Yeah, I totally feel that too. I just look at the track record and the fact that he could never really keep a gig other than King Kobra. He lost the Stewart and Ozzy gigs both due to his 'I'm the star' attitude. Vinny seems like a team player too where he doesn't need to be the start but know he's an important part of the band. Is hard to explain but he seems like he has good energy.

As a drummer, Vinny has been my biggest influence.
I can't blame you. Last in Line blew me away as a young drummer
...saw Dio live in 84 on the Last in line tour..still to this day one of the best concerts I've ever been to...Vinnie is one of the best rockdrummers ever!
Actually, after Sabbath disbanded,Dio and Vinnie had the great Jake E Lee jam first before Vivian Campbell, It's in the RJD autobiography book , mentioned by Wendy Dio too, she was managing Rough Cutt and they picked him out and then it was Vivian.
This guy has always came off as the way more down to earth, humble Appice brother. I just prefer Vinnie overall.
That dude is a living legend. I know how to pronounce his name now. Lol. What I like most about him besides his drumming, is he seems really down to earth.
holy diver always in my heart 💖
Vinnie is a great drummer.just love his groove
The world of music owes so much to black sabbath and Vinnie!
Love seeing Vinnie play with Last in Line, not the big kit,but seeing him play up close, just stroking the kit still sounds huge, great guy🤘
What a class act, and an amazing drummer. Great interview!
Axis was a great band...the album Circus World still sounds fantastic in my opinion and all of the songs hold up today...killer playing all 'round
I absolutely love listening to these stories 😎😎😎😎
What an intelligent dude..1st time I ever heard his story?..why didn’t I know his take on stuff..?..but you know by what he said…he’s the real shit..🤘
Then Carmine slides in to play drums on Bark At The Moon, after telling his brother not too gig with Ozzy...haha.🤟🏻🖤🤙🏻X
Well, it was a few years and albums later, and maybe Carmine wanted to help Ozzy get over the bump, and maybe Ozzy cleaned up enough after that RR Tragedy to make working with him acceptable.
That is a interesting tidbit.
Mr. Appice, I Hope to see Last IN Line gig on November 5th. Vivian Campbell mailed me a Dimarzio Pickup for my guitar a couple years ago and I would like to thank him in person.
Mr. Vinnie Sansom Appice 🎵🎼🎶💪😎👊
As a young drummer, I played the crap out of my Dio Sacred Heart cassette. Vinny was my drum teacher. Thanks Vinny!
My favorite show was Heaven and hell with Megadeth so glad I got to see such an amazing show.
vinny has to be one of the coolest, most down to earth dudes ever
I could listen to Vinny's stories for hours.
I love this entire series. Keep them coming!
Great interview and insights. I was into the music...and many "hair bands" sucked!

Some were wrongly branded...

Got a chance to meet Vinny at a Sabian cymbal signing in Toronto in 1984. Super cool guy, down to earth and signed a drumstick.
GREAT INTERVIEW , ONE OF THE BEST!
He is not lying about the clubs.the silo in reading PA.club Arizona in DE
So strange to be sitting at the bar, having a burger and beer while these legends blasted through a set.SALUTE
Vinnie!!!! Drum Thunder! I Love This Guy. Phenomenal Drummer!
Man, keep these interviews coming. How about some NWOBHM folks from bands like Saxon, Tygers of Pantang or Angle Witch etc?
what a great episode!!! i have loved watching these videos from the beginning, being a die-hard fan of that era!! I've learned so much from some of the most important artists of that time. It's truly amazing!!! Please keep them coming!!!
Great interview ! I LOVED the DIO documentary on Netflix. Vinnie is a funny guy when he says, "What did he say ?" Asking Ronnie regarding Tony and Geezer's heavy accents.
Dear Vinny; THANK YOU for standing up for, and honoring Ronnie James Dio. My heart is absolutely broken that Ronnie was not inducted to the RHoF. I must be cautious as all my comments regarding said subject have been removed due to "inflammatory content". Isn't that what Rock and Heavy Metal are all about? I'm honored to have had the experience of watching and especially hearing you and Ronnie ROCK OUT! Always an amazing concert! 🤘
I love these interviews :) Any chance for one with Sebastian Bach? or someone from GN'R?
They must have shite when they first heard him play. Probably the best drummer they had. At least the most powerful and technical.
Vinny Appice is such a powerful drummer. Better than even Bill Ward in my mind (yeah, two different styles, but I know which style I prefer)
So love that time so much fun bad ass music
I met Vinny in Charlotte at a small club called the Tremont . Very small crowd . He was with Kill Devil Hill . I stood right at the stage and he walked up and shook my hand a couple of times and thanked me for coming out . A few months later they returned to Charlotte to open for Portnoys band . He saw me standing across the street and got off the bus and walked over to where I was standing . He said " Hey man you were at the last show we played here ." He hung out with us for a while took pictures and signed stuff for us . For him to remember me like that was amazing . A super nice and genuine guy . I had the picture blown up and I'm waiting for him to come back around and sign it for me .
I was fortunate to have seen Vinnie with Sabbath at the Holiday Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville Indiana I believe in 92. So cool!!!!
Vinny Apeace hits hard
Such a calm and humble man 👏
Hey Vinnie . I know your nephew Vincent . I’ve played drums all of my
Life . I owe a lot to you & your brother Carmen . I watched your videos & followed your techniques . Thank you .
That was great!
Awesome!!
Great interview
Vinny is a very nice person i loved being around him!!
This was a really great interview.
Awesome interview! I can’t wait to meet him in January.
Great interview\m/ cant wait to hear the one from Forsythe
Saw him live 4 times . 2 with sabbath , 2 with dio . Fond memories for sure .
Dehumanizer the heaviest album on Earth
Such as honest interview !
I miss Ronnie James Dio.
Love hearing the stories.
Guy has a net worth of $5 million, doesn't have to play to survive, just genuinely enjoys rockin'.
Straight to the point. Thanks Vinny.
Awesome drummer!🎶
I remember Vinny from playing with Rick Derringer in the 1970's. Always a great drummer.
Great drummer!
Bravo!
Thank you, Vinny. Great stories. Thanks for sharing. See you in July, NYC
Man, when talent meets luck and opportunity at the same time pure magic happens !
