I wish dealers would consider the average family, you know the people who DON'T have £18-£30,000 to spend on a caravan, took me two years to save £3500 for my one, just way too expensive nowadays.
We can only pay the going rate, if I came to buy your car, and it sells for £10k, will you sell it to me for £1k so I can sell it cheap to the new buyer?
@ynottteris Mark has often spoken about the cheaper van, older but still in good shape etc. So I'm sure he will do again, I can't afford the 30/40k either, but there have been some good ones for lower budgets.
We had someone with a tv in their awning on the next pitch to us, not nice at all, we had to ask them to turn it down and they did and they apologised, but there will be others who will give you grief, hopefully that will never happen, and somewhere on UA-cam there’s a family with no awning but an absolute massive tv with extra speakers on the side of their caravan, and at night time all you could see was flashing lights, that must have been terrible for their neighbours.
The caravan in question was CRIS checked and registered in 2019, the problem being when the previous owner reported it stolen in 2021 no official body made the relevant checks eg CRIS and the police even the insurance company, if it was insured, also the said caravan had a tracker fitted and no one, police or CRIS, did a check to find out where the van was situated!! So whose in the wrong, the caravan owner who made all the relevant checks, which confirmed the van was legit, or the official bodies who just couldn't be bothered!!
The Sprite and challenger fairway difference was immediately evident Mark, not by the 3 burner hob in the sprite ( although true) but the panel around the kitchen window which adds to ones evening lighting mood and ambience lol.
So, delay from a previous owner stating it was stolen. Could be they sold the Caravan for cash, but kept up the HP payments. after a period of time they found they could not keep up the payments. To prevent the HP Company finding out about the illegal sale, they declared it stolen....
@@thecaravanplace could be as simple and innocent as their next caravan they had, had been stolen, they didn't destroy this caravans CRiS docs when sold, grabbed the wrong set of docs to report to CRiS and accidently reported this one... makes more sense when it's still a Swift being reported stolen just different model as most will stick with the same brand when changing vans.
I bought a 2001 swift challenger hi-style just over a year ago it was a private sale it was originally supplied by Loudhams Notts when I contacted Chris they said the van wasn’t even registered so I got the previous owner to write a email to Chris confirming the sale and the Chris documents were done in my name and now I’m down as first owner apparently just a oversight by Loudhams. The previous owners didn’t even realise they didn’t have any documentation for Chris it was there first van.
@thecaravanplace I've been caravaning for nearly 25 years, never had a telly in any of the caravans. When my kids were small, we played cards or board games or read and listened to the radio. My kids are now adults, my youngest (23) can't imagine having a telly in the caravan. She says it would spoil her holiday if we had a telly in the caravan.
I noticed one of the vans you looked at,you opened the cupboard above to bathroom sink, I noticed some of the trim looked like it was coming off? Do you sell your caravans as seen or hadn't it gone through the workshop process yet ?
In their defence, that caravan had a notice in the window saying just arrived, awaiting cleaning, so hopefully that sort of thing is flagged and sorted
Yes we try to go through before going fully on sale, but when a fair few turn up at once it's impossible. But anything like that gets fixed on the service/Pdi before collecting. 👍
Great video mark 👍 2022 fairway is a bargain. Question about cris check, I’ve had mine for couple of years and noticed on my cris card it says major 4SB but it’s an actually a 4EB. Should I get in touch and question it as everything else matches up. Cheers 👍
They had been a slower seller over covid, so just not as many about now, it should change over the next few months as more part exchanges come through. 👍
I'm not keen on the later Coachman 'vans with twin front lockers. If I've got this right this means that both gas bottles located on the near side? I'd rather them in the middle as so to distribute the weight more evenly across the chassis plus better protected too.
I bet that's an admin error, the wrong vin number was typed into chris when making the report, hence the model is different. Dealers bulk register vans so chris numbers will be consecutive so only 1 digit mistake will make an error like this. Happens with index plates to.
Had that with a car... Two used identical Suzuki Swifts with one letter difference for sale at dealer. Test drove one and agreed to buy the car and when the dealer put their own logoed number plates on the cars they swapped them over accidentally. Had the car and only noticed come MOT time when the VIN didn't match the number plate!
Dealers made hay whilst the Covid sun shined... Those that didn't put that extra bunce away are the ones that are struggling now! - Proper financial planning is often lacking in small/medium owner operated businesses...
If the current owner had registered it with CRIS in 2019 the it would have been queried in 2021 when it was notified as stolen. Something to learn from
It was registered with Cris September 2019 by new owners and brought it off another couple who had owned it for a year who had also registered it with Chris
As far as I can see, the current owner did all he could to ensure the van he bought was legit. If there is a problem now, the o us must be on the CRIS organisation to foot the bill. They made the mistake.
Yes, I don't think Cris work like that and don't give any sort of protection or insurance against this happening, but then what do you pay for? It doesn't actually seem to give any protection.
Yes! We did! Excellent time to buy & even better time for the service, as everyone is using them it is easy to book. As we do not have any kids etc we avoid holidaying in August, busy and expensive. So we can book the date without the possibility of it clashing with any break.

Cracking podcast as usual Mark very informative got some lovely vans there well done mate from Bristol
Thanks Bryan 👍
I'd dread being sited next to someone who was using a TV in their awning!

Contact the management and let them deal with it.

It's more for new people coming into the market, so easy tells to figure special editions out, good call on thf window surround. 👍
Great stock 🎉

Long story short - Always make sure the “CRIS” updated
Was updated in 2019 when brought and other previous owner in 2018
when bought the new owner has to pay.
I moved house and had to pay to change it unlike dvla its free so the cris register is flawed. unfortunately.

Could you do a video on how to clean & maintain the big heki rooflight and the best way to look after window seals? I have a 2012 Adria Adora
