My dad passed away when i was 8 and he left me with this bands music in my heart. Darklands, psychocandy. Guys, you're "cool" hahaha. I loved your music for decades. Potentially my favourite band. Thankyou! I'm turning 30 this year. Perth, Western Australia.
I think it is wonderful to see Chines people enjoying this kind of unique kind of music . JAMChain are unique in music business . I follow them since the first album
Thank you Mary Chain for all of the amazing music over the years. You have helped me through a lot of really crappy times and I’ll always be thankful for that
Rock and roll may be dying, but thank heavens we've still got the Mary Chain. Loved this band since I was a pimply schoolboy when Psychocandy came out. They remain so real and unassuming, but secure now in the knowledge of who they are. My favourite band, ever and always. Damn fine acoustics in that concert too... great footage.
Chinese here and saw JAMC on that tour by the Hong Kong stop. The show was a beautiful ode to my highschool days, when I was feeling very much an outsider a lot of time. I used to hum 'Happy When It Rains" whenever it was raining outside in the classroom - a joy that I couldn't find anyone to share irl. JAMC brought me the fuzzy, dreamy warmth that I can still remember clearly - even to this day. Thank you JAMC, you are very important to many of us! :)
Psychocandy ripped my head off as a 15 year old, i am nearly 50 and all these years later i still get the same buzz and thrill i had the first time i heard it. The most important album that's been in my life and will always will be.
It can be seen that it is a small theater, maybe 1000 or 2000 people, for Jamc it must have been like going back to the 80s, a really select group enjoying this in the most populated country in the world is wonderful, what a privilege for both!
Saw them live in Hamburg and they gave the crowd a real blast. Its unbelievable. Their 'It's our music - like it or not'- attitude seems to work even better now they are gnarled 50+ dinosaurs.
This doc has been made with such a love for the band. I have watched it many many times and I can’t get enough of it. The interviewer did a terrific job and so did the editor. The opening shot is almost gold and so is the end. It all adds up. Thanks for capturing my heroes this way 🙏
Killer quote: "Also, at the time, indie music became this unambitious little thing in the corner, that was just happy being small and almost insignificant"
I'm kind of not surprised that they have a big following in China. I live here (Shanghai) and love the place but music, in general, is very "safe" - to the point of being bland. I understand why, but it's one of the few aspects of life here that makes me feel like the Chinese people are missing out a bit. All this, bearing in mind that I don't go looking for more diverse stuff, this is just based on what I occasionally hear on the radio. So yes, much the same scene here that JAMC originally flourished in. There will be so many people to whom this music absolutely SPEAKS, and who are starving for something more than mass-produced pop. I'm happy for both JAMC and China that they have not only been introduced to each other but that JAMC came over to play. Nice little video (though some color grading I'm not such a fan of, but that's just personal taste). Thanks for posting here :)
I sure hope Xi won't start a war with America. Seeing JAMC in communist China gives me hope for mankind but authoritarians always cause pain in the world. Be safe and keep rocking!! :)
@@misteral1083 How do you know? As far as I see it, communist China has been at war with America for the last several years. It's just not yet a military conflict. It seems obvious that communist China wants to supplant America as the world's dominant power.
Wow! I had no idea they had a following like that in China. That's freakin cool. Growing up when they were first making albums I had a hard time even knowing anybody, friends or not, that also liked JAMC. At least more than just a little, I didn't know anyone that was a big fan like me. I guess the whole Internet thing has made everything more accessible. I'm sure if the internet was up when I started listening to them, I would have found some other fans, or friends. And it's just so easy now to hear what's out there, instead of having to hunt through record stores for some new album, or an older one even, that you don't have.
The search was half the fun, though, it was a mission, and the finding gave gravitas to the pursuit. That's missing now and the instant gratification reduces the impact.
Believe it or not, a lot of British bands are quite popular in mainland China. Bands like Suede, Oasis, Coldplay, the Libertines etc. all have quite some followers. Back in high school I once went to a music festival in Beijing just to see Brett Anderson, the singer of Suede. I think in general bands from UK are much popular in China than they are in the United States. :)
@@DYang-gl2dd + Greetings from America. If the music moves you, makes you want to rip the stars from the sky ( to borrow from the lads) so be it, music has no borders... It reveals you have a Rock and Roll Heart Peace
I remember when the band was going on this tour. It's impossible to imagine that this could happen today under the CCP and Xi. Glad our Chinese brothers and sisters had the opportunity to experience freedom for that moment. God bless JAMC!!! :)
Can we expect the record this or next year, thank you I’m 21 bought a drum machine when I was 18 because of jamc, boring shit on the radio just like then.
That small story William told is true the original shin ei fuzz Japanese pedal was broken I think he got it for under £40. Took it home and had this terrible sound and that’s one of the pedals you hear on psychocandy. He had two Shin Ei but the fucked up one you hear is that screech
I visited Beijing a few years after the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Despite the ubiquitous presence of machine gun toting guards, the city seemed eerily peaceful if only for the fact the citizens tacitly understood to mind their own business, go about their daily errands and ignore the idiotic foreigners taking selfies in the area where cries for democracy were met with hails of bullets. So given how rigidly locked down China was in 92, I am baffled how anyone there could have heard of JAMC much less get a copy of their music back when they were only 16-17 years old. Just imagine finding Psychocandy in a black market in Shanghai back in the early 80s when the sale or possession of anything we take for granted in the West would have landed you in a gulag! This is a testament to the true raw artistry that will always be the core of JAMC transcending fads and fashion while enthralling music lovers of any generation, culture, ethnicity or nationality.
I get William, except for maybe a couple of bands, it's hard to get into and understand newer bands (i.e., something from the last 10 years even), so much of pop music isn't even close to rock n roll any more.

JAMC and Carter. Nobody else matters.
