Awesome, finally seeing how much line I would get as someone who needs heavier line cause I have much shorter drops but need to stop fish and also have to expect line damage and still need to have enough reserve even with some frays in the line.
About your knot: I had the same issues and found the same solution, though at least with some line the braid can cut itself, so I used a solid ring, now, cause of possible corrosion just use hollow core that's significantly heavier than the line I put on(at least 50%) but the hollow usually doesn't cut itself nearly as easily anyway.
I am really interested in what you said that the braid cuts into itself...? Which loop area you referring to?
@@TeamHardLife back when I used solid I tested this knot(solid splice, but you can just tie a big loop and the friction will prevent the knot from breaking anyway) and then broke it with the spool so that there was pressure directly against the loop (the line went 360° through the loop) and like that the loop became the weakpoint and would be cut in half. If the drag is not locked and the spool gets fully unspoiled so that there loop doesn't touch the spool this happens much less, but just to be safe I put some heavier hollow on first, plus if I get spooled and have to tie off I'd rather have something stronger than my mainline to tie
OK you really lost me what's a solid Splice? Did you tie a knot? And also how did you get the loop to spin around the main line if there is no pressure to pull 1 side over the other when cinching down the simple loop?
@@TeamHardLife a solid splice, where you take a needle and basically saw the line into itself, or two lines into each other. And I let it cinch down just like you do. What I mean is that if you loch up where the line goes through the loop and pulls straight away it cuts the loop, if you don't have the drag as tight, so that every millimeter comes off the spool(just do your knot, put the reel in freespool and you'll know what I mean) than there's a much milder angle between the loop and the line going through, which is why it's much less likely to cut the loop and even if it's gonna happen at significantly higher pressure
OK we have had that problem with a few reels that guys were driving down beach and the reel went into free spool and the guys heard a loud jerk... the line busted either a few feet from the tip of the rod and or a bit down beach when another vehicle rode on the line ... have several videos showing those outcomes and having to respool their line on the reels
