      Yes. In the Laeiszhalle. The Organ piece. It is different on cd. I hope he records more Bach in the future. Thank you for reminding us constantly of him. Have a merry Christmas :)

      No never. But I would like to. I love Bach and this sounds great so this could be a favorite. But one of many. Ólafsson plays fantastic.

      Last year in La Roque d'Antheron playing Debussy and Rameau. Especially his Debussy was fantastic!

    Keeping that clarity and synchronisation at 135 bpm of the prelude is incredible. Well done.

    Here is a pianist whose playing one can recognize, like Horowitz or Glenn Gould; yet one doesn't find him obtrusive. A very pleasant surprise to "discover" him. A great talent. Thank you for uploading.

      He published a CD with a crossover of Rameau (baroque) and Debussy, 300 years apart, very interesting. I love the track "girl with golden hair / fille aux cheveux lin"

    I am learning this piece; I doubt I'll ever can that clean, crisp tone Vikingur manages to retain throughout. Marvelous performance. I keep playing it over and over again listening to every note. Then I play it again. Then I applaud with everyone else.

      Just perfect control of all three voices and also don’t have the same exact tone throughout. As in pay attention closely and hear the varying dynamics of each voice throughout. Specifically when it turns to E Flat in the beginning, nice second voice (is, specifically what I’m aiming for). Plays with perfect care. This is the skill we’re all reaching for

    Very nice. The power of Bach is that there are often multiple legitimate options. Here, tempo and clarity is intensively present. Well done.

    How the hell does one get this sort of sound out of the piano? This is the most amazing rendition I've ever heard of the prelude in c minor and the performance as a whole is so beautifully articulated and transparent...

      To me it’s not necessarily the sound it’s the precision and speed of his technique. I play this and it’s like I’m watching a movie slo mo-😂

      It’s a combination of the acoustics of mainly the piano and the room as well as the excellent performance. It takes both in unison for perfection. Barenboim has great recordings of pieces; I think he has the best acoustics available

    He highlights the baroque era perfectly, his articulation representing quite like a harpsichord and organ, which is possibly where Bach made this piece for. Beautiful interpretation!

      In baroque music you generally want to stick to the original tempo but his change was quite subtle, so I don’t think too many of us would mind

    In addition to this masterful execution, which is reminiscent of Stanislav Richter, the piano and the sound recording (live!) are pure wonder. Steinways often tend to sound metallic, this one not at all...

    I love his interpretation. So light and clear. Prefer this to Glenn Gould which sounds a bit stiff when you hear both tracks side by side.

      Funny, I felt the exact opposite of that! I found this interpretion more "scholar" and neat, but quite cold, and Gould's one much more emotionally overwhelming. Him lowering the tempo and playing staccato gives, to me, a dramatic impulse, each note ticking like a clock or a heartbeat that gets more and more disturbed by dissonant notes like a mechanism that gets rusty.. that's funny and interesting to witness everyone's feeling about that masterpiece!

      @@kangchenjunga591 True! And I just keep wondering about how it was played at Bach's time, considering the musical devices then. Couldn't play legato for it was on an harpsichord, so Gould's regular staccato might be more accurate than we think!

      Agree - for my taste (to borrow a phrase from Martin Frost) Gould's interpretation sounds quite stodgy and for me draws attention to the fact that the music was not written for piano - but maybe that is just because we are so used to the 'traditional' interpretations?

    Never, but I'd love it. His performances and reading of Bach are most interesting. Among them, if choosing one, Ich ruf zu dir Herr Jesu Christ (BWV 639).
