I am also a senior who's applying to colleges, and I love following your channel! It makes me feel like I'm not alone in the process ☺️ Also I am taking all of my high school classes at my community college, so it's similar to dual enrollment!
Lol that’s still dual enrollment you don’t have to take high school classes if you don’t need to this quarter I’m taking 15 credits (3 classes 5 credits each) with no high school classes my junior year! Granted I’m working towards my AA degree also and it might be different depending on the state too!
I'm a sophomore doing dual enrollment, our options are if you took Eng 2 Hon your first year, then you have the option of taking AP Comp or Comp 1 and 2 via Dual enrollment, or if you aren't as ready or plan on taking other classes then you can start your junior year, but they'll only accept us based on PERT scores and GPA. Great video!!
Shaniya Sims I know that you didn’t ask me, but I’m also in dual enrollment. I’m not sure if this is how it is everywhere, but where I live, someone who takes dual enrollment will still be considered a college freshmen. You will still have your dual enrollment credits, as well, but not all colleges will allow you to transfer all of your credits to there college though.
This video came right on time! I've been contemplating whether to do dual enrollment for my senior year. And you've made my decision an absolute yes. Thank you!
Dual Enrollment is the best it challenges me and the tons of classes that I can choose from is unbelievable, my plan is to finish all the first semester's pre-courses for nursing. I've already taken Psychology 101 and 102, next semester I will ne taking Human Nutrition which marks my nursing 'start'.
@@emmarylie3266 That's great it's a good option! I enjoyed the experience it was really entertaining. I did not have a lot of homework maybe like 1 essay per class and 1-3 tests per class. It just depends on the class, also professors were really kind along with students.
At my school, starting junior year we can be at the community college for all our classes in duel enrolment for full time. When I graduate senior year, I will have an associates too.
I got accepted in Vet Tech and I have to wait until Fall time if I can join, sometimes I will get scholarships so I can stay in the town and I believe that's what I can say but good luck on finding ways on getting accepted to colleges that you may like as well! I graduated last year, but I'm saving my time and I went to another program to make new friends and stuff.
My counselor wants me to do this program for my last three years of school but I’m kinda decisive about it. I’ve been homeschooled since middle school and i was really excited to get the whole high school experience but I know this would be good for my Academics.💛
girl i got a whole F in that class and still got in 💀💀💀 i passed the test, the reason why i had an F is because i was on vacation during the developmental class (summer school) so when i came back i was sooooo behind 😭 i’m guessing my teacher worked it out because i still got in
I can take dual enrollment classes for junior and senior year (currently a sophomore) and I don’t know if I should try and take more dual enrollment classes or more AP classes. Which did you like better/think are going to be the most beneficial to you in college?
I would say take the dual enrollment. They are actual college classes taught by a college professor. It will help you get used to the college teaching style. Plus, it is cool being able to tell your friends "I am in college"
@@JJ-dx6eb I did both- Junior year I just took 4 APs, but I did four dual enrollments my senior year and three APs. Honestly they all helped me a lot but I preferred dual enrollment.
I took dual enrollment classes. Here was my schedule from hs... Freshman: Fundamentals of Biology I & II, Introduction to Psychology, and Introduction to Sociology. Sophomore: Fundamentals of Chemistry I & II, Advanced Biology, and Anatomy & Physiology I & II. Junior: Calculus I & II, Elementary Statistics, Advanced Chemistry, and Honors Seminar. Senior: Calculus III, Honors Calculus Research, Honors Biology Research, Honors Chemistry Research, English Composition I & II, and Honors Biological Studies.
Okay so I was in my APUSH class with a bunch of people who were in our Early College program and so they got in dual credit classes every year of high school (we are in our senior year this school year). I was put into the dual enrollment class even though I never signed up for it. That class was a huge mistake just because my "professor" (If you want to call her that) got fired about halfway through the first semester and so we had finally got the class finished with two other teachers and we still got our credit but the teacher was just crazy. That was my first experience with dual enrollment and I am taking 6 dual enrollment classes this coming year. I'm taking this year: Math 110, Math 120, Teacher Cadet, English 101, English 102, and Psychology. I'm really ready to get start!
That sucks it seems like dual enrollment students are looked at as less at your college... my college treats us as no different meaning we do everything at the same time even our profs don’t know we’re in high school unless we tell them!
I am currently a junior in high school. At my high school, I take dual enrollment classes through a community college. Since I am in the talented and gifted program, I took my first college class my freshman year of high school. I am allowed to take up to 23 credit hours per year of high school. However, my classes are only graded on a normal 4.0 scale and are not graded. I enjoy taking dual enrollment classes because they challenge me beyond my regular high school classes. I am currently on track to graduate from high school with my Associates of Arts and Associates of Science degrees. Unfortunately, I do not have an opportunity to take AP classes at my high school.
You say that you can start dual enrollment at the start of junior year, however you also mentioned that there is a required SAT/ACT to get in. Sophomores don't take the SAT/ACT in 10th grade so what do I do?
Minh Ha I'm a sophomore and I took the Act in February. You can take it but you have to pay and register online. Also, in my case atleast, I could have used my Pre Act score or taken a placement test at the college where I'll be doing dual enrollment.
Did you take dual enrollment classes throughout the whole year or can you go by semester? Also, did you take these classes online or did you go to a local campus?
Anna Johnson I’m a senior with dual enrollment rn. Some classes can be online like English and those who aren’t online you’ll have to go to class unless they don’t do attendance and at that point it’s up to you
I mean I got A's and B's in honors chemistry my sophomore year and now im taking AP Chem now (senior year) and its my easiest class. it really just depends on how well you're doing and how much you enjoy the subject, however I do think some of my understanding stems from AP Physics 1/AP Physics C, not that you need physics for chem, it just helps. but overall I really do like the subject and the teacher so it's motivated me to study a lot more. also I found that the Elite Student Edition of the 5 steps to a 5 AP Chem book has helped me solidfy more difficult concepts from the class in case you were looking for more studying tools!
Stephanie Donovan thank you for the reply! would it be a good idea to take AP chem and AP physics 1 in the same year?? sorry I'm asking so many questions haha I'm currently signing up for classes next year and I'm sooooo stressed 😂
linda . I mean I decided not to my junior year because I thought it would be hard, but this year I decided to take AP Chem and AP Physics C (and this is also my first year taking AP Calc BC so rip) so I don't really think I thought my schedule through completely😂, but as of now I'm doing alright. but to be honest, a lot of my friends took Physics 1 and Chem the same year and they said it was stressful but I think that was because physics was a lot harder for them than chem since it was new material at a faster pace, so it really depends on how much science you're wanting to take, especially if you want to go into the stem field. but if you're willing to try both at the same time, so it!
I hate when dual enrollment is seen as “elite” I’m a sophomore taking a total of 6 credit hours this semester (2 3 credit classes) many people in my class had average grades of like Cs or B-s and didn’t try on the psat. Our school is specifically awful when it comes to dual enrollment, the school was willing to pay $800 per students for 3 credit hours and our class cost $650 per student and the school still made us buy our own books. As well as incompetence is supplying their students our school won’t even acknowledge dual enrollment as a factor in class rank, don’t curve dual enrollment grades, put dual enrollment classes on our college and high school gpa, and don’t even weigh our college grades higher than standard level classes Sorry for the rant
Gavin sorry for your bad experience but I think it definitely just depends on the schools. I dual enroll at Georgia Tech and everyone was very high achievers and the courses were very challenging but I felt like i was learning a lot and overall i had a great experience. I mean, many people have C’s and B’s but when looking at the bell curve that makes sense and for many dual enrollment students here, this is the first time they’ve struggled with math (some was their first B). I feel as though it’s better to have an even bell curve rather than grade inflation. but that’s just my experience
i want to take a bunch of math and sciences w dual enrollment but with my school any A goes to a 99 in my transcript, which would bring my GPA down a lot since weighted classes bring my GPA to 103 and i dont want to sacrifice valedictorian. its so annoying because college classes are hard and that should be reflected in my transcript
