As usual, Sherrie is just very straightforward in her responses to my questions. She has over 30 years of experience working in and owning a coin shop. In between customers we had a great conversation.

Sherri is right about the younger generation and numismatics. I'm 42 and am usually the youngest dude in a LCS whenever I go. I do think some of the youngsters are into bullion stacking, but that is a hobby that can be accomplished purely online.
We have quite a number of younger collectors that come to our shop in Myrtle Beach. We do alot of giveaways, and love teaching the younger generation.

It´s always a blockbuster when Mistress Sherrie appears. And I think she´s absolutely right with her statement on the future numismatic market. But: compared with postage stamps, silver and gold coins always will have an intrinsic value. So if you want to avoid losses, buy collectible items near metal value. Just my 2 cents. That’s Exactly right Sheri. Having been a Coin and Hockey Sports Cards collector and Coins are going the same route as Sports Cards. People are being Priced out of having a collection that “People in the Know” actually would enjoy looking at.
I just seen 2 younger kids maybe around the age of 20 at my LCS buying a bunch of coins. The one kid dropped a little over a thousand. But yeah I agree. They like shopping online.

I won't be able to get much if anything with this next payday unfortunately been i have to stock up on other things but im definitely hoping we see some good price dips because id lile to get my monster boxes filled up before the bottom raises out of control. Well I'm in my 40's and I like old us coinage. Silver dollars silver half dollars and I like them nice in a slab or out of slab depending on price.

T was going ON, my Coin Dealer just bought huge Gold & Silver collection. He has been business for 25+ years in business & never invested so much. I am excited to pick up some vintage silver from my coin dealer. But my coin dealers told me that people are dumping Gold like Crazy!!! 🥇🥇🥇 Never seen so much Gold in my Life that he can’t put everything in the glass shelves in display. I am thinking about dumping my Silver for Gold!!!🥇🥈🥇

Always enjoy your talks with Sherrie. I also wonder how coin collecting will survive in the future. Most of the younger generation has other things to do. When I started collecting there was no such thing as the Internet -- kids collected coins and stamps, no longer the case, at least not on a large scale. Trading cards are big with the younger crowd. The average age at a trading/sports card show is much younger than at a coin (or remember stamps) show. But, only time will tell. The Pandemic brought a lot of people back into the hobby, but they are steadily disappearing now. The stacking crowd is thinning out as well. Things change. Cheers!

Sorry to hear that about the collectors in your area, Sherrie. I prefer to buy at my LCS, because ebays high fees inflate the prices beyond their value IMHO.
Plus my LCS is pretty fair. I got a 1950-D in low MS for $10. He typically under-grades his coins for flexibility on both sides.
If collecting falls off, that just means I get them cheaper. It's a fun hobby for me. I don't generally buy the super high priced coins like a 1916-D merc dime. But I definitely get why a person would. I'll probably end up spending quite a bit on Morgan/peace dollars, as they're my main focus.
But ebay fees are still cheaper than having a brick-and-mortar retail locatiion. There are so many costs that come with having a physical location. But I do understand wanting to support your local LCS if they are honest and legit. If nobody does they will all go away.

O she must not know the best deals can be found online even with numismatic field..for the younger crowd. They especially don't have the ten years of relationships building with an LCS to get those good deals that can be found at LCS for consistent customers. For those ppl, they usually have the best deals but for everyone else, finding an online seller who is running a sale is a better option. But I still would agree with Sherri that the younger crowd is not as enthusiastic about the collection side of stacking, it's the idea of building, hedging, saving wealth that is attractive. That's the trend now, meme crypto, penny stocks and trend options, and bullion but just bullion.
