@@johnmac609 it is a personal thing I know. I find the E Type Jag, or the Ferrari Daytona, or the Aston DB 9 more beautiful. My taste i agree. No doubt there RX7 is an attractive car thigh abs that was a great example.
In 2012 while living in Japan, I had the incredible fortune to be track prepped at Suzuka Circuit with some buddies for an open lapping day. Not expecting to drive anything, I was overwhelmed and incredibly grateful when my buddy - a street racer and huge open lapping hobbyist - threw me the keys to his RX-7 FD (which looked exactly like this except with grey TE’s and black Recaro SPG seats). He said “Take a few hours and enjoy the track!”. I learned more that day behind the wheel of that car on that track than I ever have any other time in my life, including on separate occasions having driven 911’s on other tracks. The way the FD turns in and you can feel the front end scrub to give you the minute feedback to know whether understeer will occur or not, the jetlike response of its twin Hitachi turbos/engine in harmony, the gentle sway in the suspension as the car leans from side-to-side, the gradual grabbiness of the brakes, the harmony of the GLORIOUS shifts from the gearbox and the way the torque is so linear that power-on-oversteer seems like a conscious choice rather than an unexpected surprise… the car was far beyond even my greatest expectations. I stepped out of the drivers seat a changed man. To this day, the FD3S remains my favourite driving car EVER, and Suzuka Circuit has become my favourite track as well, with its sweeping curves and gentle dips and rises in altitude. If only all days could be as special as that day in 2012…
The reason why people are so comfortable tossing you their keys are because of videos like this, you treat the car so well. You drive carefully and respectfully. I'd have zero qualms about throwing my keys at you and telling you to go have fun and come back when you're sick of it.
No shit, if it's not your car you don't start it cold and sit there gunning the fuck out of the engine. You don't reverse by winding it up to 3-4K RPM and slipping the fuck out of the clutch. You don't drive it like you're angry at it and angry at the world. Hell, you don't do childish nonsense like that even if it *IS* your own car. Careful respectful driving while still enjoying it = Coolest of all!
10:42 yo that NSX flyby was sick, it sounded so good, another JDM dream car classic. I remember driving my FC GXL down Lakeshore Drive, went to my spot and also there was the NSX. We talked about cars and he also used to have an FC and FD. Stuff of legends man
Many thanks for doing the FD justice. Love your videos, your appreciation, and your road etiquette. I practically restored mine and they're not as unreliable as everyone makes them out to be. It all boils down to the owner. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. Respect the drive. Words to live by.
Sometimes I see a group of really cool japanese/european cars cruising while commuting in my 03 explorer and think “god I wish I were in my other car right now so I could join” and I could only imagine how that might feel driving a jdm legend but running into a group of supercars, especially when you have been behind the wheel of some pretty crazy stuff.
I think one of my fav parts about tedwards pov drives is that its proof all of us are the same when we see a cool car while driving and stop whatever we are doing to focus on it lmao
Surely you do, somewhere.. even if it's not super local to you. Terrain is just like that, this stuff exists everywhere. Might not look the same, looking off a mountainous cliffside lol, but you have to have some good twisty roads where you are, somewhere
@Haste the closest road to me that's even remotely fun like this is about 2 hours away. Still head out that way every now and again, but it's not something i can do on a whim
I live in the boston area and sometimes I find myself driving on the same roads in the Concord/Weston area that Tedward films on and they seriously cannot compare to west coast roads
For me, one of the top 5 most beautiful sports cars, the bodywork is a work of art, it will never age. I remember driving a couple of them new in 1993, what memorable test drives they were! In Montgomery blue it was stunning!
Tedward, above about 4,000 RPM these cars are basically non-sequential anyway. The two turbos work together in parallel. It's only sequential below that RPM to reduce turbo lag and flatten the torque curve by using all of the exhaust gas to power only one of the turbos. We have a 1993 FD in the garage, we've had it for many, many years now. Almost 100% stock. I wish we could get around to fixing it up a little, it probably needs a new intake manifold gasket (front rotor inhales coolant, but no exhaust gas in the coolant reservoir.) These are lovely machines, nothing else quite like 'em.
I like what you said, and its so true - you have to bond with the car. You become at one with the machine and you can get such satisfaction and joy out of driving it when you feel the sense of connection with it. Something that I think all modern cars are lacking - character and soul. Great driving, and thanks for sharing these beautiful sights and sounds with us!
It is really true, all the electronics and extra systems takes away the connection you can get with a car. I drove a Corolla from 94 as a daily it was so fun! except when it snowed then i had to pray for my life. But it was fun, manual an engine and 4 wheels nothing more. The old cars felt alive and like you could push them like nothing else! And if something broke down it was easy fix!
Owned a 93 for about 10 years built the engine went with a single turbo and put down a little more than 400 RWHP and that seemed like the sweet spot with the car.Did all new suspension replaced all the bushings and it handled so nice!
Finally a proper FD video. Every other FD video ive seen is one where loud trap music muffles out the sound of the rotary, or of course a k or ls swap fd. Theres literally no high quality 4k pov no music over exhaust video of another fd on youtube right now i bet

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite japanese car, everytime I see one at a car show I just want to sit in it and go for a drive. Seeing you push this to what you can handle really shows what it can do. Forever rotary 😂
After all these years its still timeless and i still want one. I never forget when i saw one many years ago back when i was in the fifth grade at the park and i still can’t take many eyes off one if i spot one in the wild around the Tampa Bay Area where i live. I want a right hand drive one

It was converted to single turbo and it made absolutely no torque before 4 grand, couple that with the suspension that was just on lowering springs with the factory shocks, it was terrible and dangerous to drive and really easy to get it into tank slappers, as the rear ALWAYS broke loose whenever boost came on which made the car bounce around violently. Unsurprisingly my friend got spat out of a gentle corner during a rainy day and smacked the back end into an electrical pole going ~45mph and wrote the car off. 1:33 Awesome that someone out there can start a manual car from a standstill without winding it up to 3-4K RPM first! It sounds like you barely gave it any gas at all and the engine was barely above idle speed when the car started to roll. Nice work! I know it's rather trivial but danged if anyone bothers learning to do it. Even reversing in a parking lot most people will have the damn engine at half way to the redline.

I had a 93, a funny thing that happened one day when I first got it, I came to a stop light and decided to turn on the AC and since the rotary has a really low idle as soon as the load from the AC came on the engine stalled. Since then, I add revs before turning on the AC, not sure if anyone experienced that as well XD
Lol I noticed the AFR's on this FD are quite rich! No complaints though cause with rotaries rich is safe and rich is cool too hahaha! I don't blame em! I was in the 10's on mine too! haha that's why you get those deep sounding natural pop's out of the exhaust! Edit: Just remembered the stock fd twins will lean out at 5.5 psi IIRC when the turbo's kick over to one another. That may be why he's running rich. I got rid of my sequential asap when I had mine, added a dual in-line oil cooler and deleted the cat, never had a heat problem since obviously a radiator was added too.
Man I want to pull the trigger on one of these so bad but it's just not the right financial decision right now, maybe in the next year or two. Hands down the sexiest sports car of the 90s.

its funny you drove past that guy in the murci with a gt1 kit that drives with his dog, thats one of the best gated murcis ive seen and its sounds amazing
lol you spotted highcard, his murcie looks so good
Ended up seeing him again like 3 days later! love his dog
I love this car so much. Dream car since I was like 12
might just be the most perfect car ever made, i want one so bad it makes me cry to think about lol
What a coincidence, I literally just watched Gears & Gasoline’s RX7 roadtrip series last night!
Ben(s) will be happy :)
Ferrari F355 and the RX-7 are some of the if not the most good looking cars of the 90's
What a nice road to drive an RX7 🙌 dude
This is my ASMR for sleeping
those Recaros are quite literally worth more than all the shitty little cars I’ve owned, combined
Living the SoCal dream right there. I'm guessing that silver 360 Modena is a manual from the "6 gated" license plate :)
It sure would be a buzzkill if it had an f1 gearbox 😂
