Growing up just blocks away from the Roseville CA station. I always wondered how the Capitol Corridor started it's day in auburn!! Thank you for the video!!!
CentralValley Railfan8311 It really varies depending on the day of the week. It is worth noting that downhill of the Auburn Amtrak Station near Rocklin, the UP Roseville Subdivision double track mainline splits into two; where each track has its own routing. Because of this, you’ll only catch roughly half of the trains that traverse Donner Pass if you railfan at the Amtrak Station. Plus, the dispatcher may route certain trains on one or the other mainlines based on the steepness of the grade and how heavy a particular train is. On this particular day of the video, I stayed there from roughly 7:30am until past 12:30pm and only two freights came by. (There was a 3+ hour wait after Amtrak 729 departed until the first freight appeared). However, on other days I have visited the station for leisure and not officially railfanning, I’ve seen freights pop up almost immediately, so it all truly varies on the day. Hope this helps !
CentralValley Railfan8311 For this particular day, it was a Sunday and it was a relatively slow day. The other days I’ve visited were weekdays, but I can’t remember which days of the week specifically. Generally though, a good rule of thumb is that freight usually kicks up more towards the later part of the week, when the customers have business and ship out product to a destination. That’s when the trains are made up and are more common arriving or departing major hubs like Roseville, en route to its next hub or destination. Weekends are generally a hit and miss though. One weekend you can get tons of action, and others not so much. This is just from my personal observation though and it may vary from other folks’ observations. Hope this helps as well !
What a nice and cute little station. I need to come here one day.
Thank you for the great video. I grew up on the other side of that tunnel.
Lisa Malkowski You’re very welcome ! Glad you enjoyed the video !

Awesome Video
Thank you !
Great Video! I've always wondered where Auburn was, and what the station looked like.
Liam Saucedo Thanks ! It's not too big of a station, but it's definitely interesting to see where the Eastbound Capitol Corridor trains terminate.
Great video.
CSX Railline Productions Thanks !
does the train leave the same way it went up. on google maps is saw two different tracks
johnipie 460 Yes indeed. The station is only accessible by Track 2, which runs along the North side of the city.
How is the action here at Auburn?
