Always enjoyed watching Cornelius Boza Edwards fight. He always gave his best and as I once herd someone say "He was good TV." The Networks tried several times to make Boza a stepping stone for these younger fighters, John Verdirosa, Robert Elizondo, Pedro Laza , Guy Villigas and Charlie Choo Choo Brown. Boza beat them all and never let any of them build their record on his name. Two biggest wins obviously over Rafel Bazooka Limon for WBC Super Featherweight Championship and his win over Bobby Chacon in their first fight.

Every generation, I suppose, has to go through it. But any time someone mentions fighters that were around when they were growing up, someone younger will always chime in about how " fighters today are so much better." I am here to tell you THEY ARE NOT. Boza Edwards fought Arguello, Chacon, Limon, Navarette, Camacho and a host of world class fighters. He didn't always win but you never had to watch him run from someone he was afraid to fight. When you fight tough fighters all the time, you can't worry about being undefeated.
And we got to see these kinds of fights every week end! Arguello, Duran, Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Zarate, Zamora, Cueves, Palomino. Hell, even Holmes fought on network television against live opponents.
Today, not always but often enough, you should save your pay per view money and just go to the medicine cabinet for some sleep aids. You'll get to sleep faster and wake up with some money. And IF you do get a good fight, as long as it doesn't end in a knockout, there is a better than fair chance that the promoters boy is getting the win. Even if he gets pounded all night.
I love boxing more than any sport. I boxed a long time when I was younger ( Not on a world class level ), did some training, some corner work, and spent some time as a poor excuse for a cut man. But a couple of years ago it happened. I was finally tired of the robberies, all the " champions", and announcers that wouldn't know how to put on a glove if it came with instructions. You can have it, I'll keep my money and yes, I'll remember the good ol' days!

Todays champions are straight up cowards who won't face each other. There are about eight of them in each division, and I would like to just see most of them simply banned from boxing worldwide, and just start all over again with one champ per division. At least it would draw up a little interest again. There are a lot of 80s fighters who never even won a world title, but if they were around now would have these guys for breakfast. For example John Mugabi or Juan Roldan... they would kill these guys today!

The ridiculous money you can get by fighting setup tomato cans to earn a title shot at one of a half dozen recognized championship belts has RUINED boxing. I just watched Wilder vs Fury 3 and I am astounded and appalled at what passes for elite heavyweights today. Fury is a fat, light punching, soft chinned and uncoordinated cream puff who would have been DESTROYED by Tyson, Holmes, Ali, Shavers, Norton, Liston, Lyle et al. I heard Joe Rogan on his podcast call it one of the great fights in heavyweight history...if not the greatest. What kind of laced Kool-Aid are people drinking??? You do have some talent...real talent in the lower weights but the heavyweight division is crawling with dogs. Don't even get me started on Anthony Joshua who apparently borrows Frank Bruno's chin before he gets in the ring. Andy Ruiz??? Jesus Christ...what is going on???

To my mind, the era of 'superfight' snoozefests, of multimillionaire athletes skating around the ring, was inaugurated by
Oscar De La Hoya in the 90s, it reached an all time nadir with Mayweather and has yet to recover

@@MrCrystalcranium Frank Bruno's chin gets a bad rep. It wasn't so much that he was chinny, it was more that he didn't know how to react when he got hit- a subtle but important difference.

In 2014, Boza Edwards was inducted into Nevada's Boxing Hall of Fame, but he has not yet been chosen for the International Boxing Hall of Fame, an honor he richly deserves.

Verderosa had a relatively short but very exciting career. Fighters with Verderosa's style, aggressive brawlers, take too many shots to have long careers.

Boxing is really the only sport where the competitors have gotten worse over time. The never-ending milking of fights, the inactivity, they can't compare to these guys. Boza today would wipe out 130 with ease.

Boza- Edwards happened to fight a lot of villains: Rolando Navarette (convicted rapist), Bobby Chacon (wife-beater) and Bazooka Limon (said he killed a fighter in the amateurs and "wasn't sorry.")

11:10 the beginning of the end. Surprised that Clancy nor Ryan mentioned that "The Heat" was doing some sorta reverse hopscotch jig when Boza nailed him to get off the ropes. Also, I hear the "Mortal Kombat" voice saying "Fatality" when Boza nearly launches dude's head into the 3rd row with the uppercut that drops Mr. Heat the first time. Fight probably could've ended right there but, oh's well. "The Heat" definitely had ❤❤ for days, seems. Good, fast paced, and exciting fight. Thanks for sharing!
