This channel is for music artist, rappers, singers, indie artist, music managers, music A&R's, record labels, distribution companies, publishing companies, music PR, and music executives. This is your source for music, motivation, & support.
I produce, mix, master and market the music for my brother and as a producer I take 50% through distribution as the producer, but on the publisher side. I want to keep a catalog for other artists and promote their music and pitch to music supervisors or music libraries.
Do you make money as the distributer for the release
Regardless, you should create one in preparation. You never know....and you don't want to play catch-up later.
Hmm, I always thought that way but it's debatable & there's nothing to stop u from operating as a sole trader for the time-being..
It's costs £400 to register as a publisher in the UK, It's currently something I'm trying to weigh up. It's probably not worth it it for me atm but I've been told I have to do it to get sync royalties, however not sure if that's entirely true. Ugh so confusing!
@@elharrop It would be nice if the host go through the comment section and answer a few questions. This one is a great point. In the US you cannot sign up to ASCAP without a publisher. BMI you do not need one but if you are a songwriter, ASCAP is a better fit.
right ..nbs he is explaining this kinda wrong about having your own publishing co......he a industry but kisser i see....

What’s yo Instagram
Only if you find it important or necessary to your plan and or vision. There are a few shortcuts as well. You can sign with a publishing company and they can do everything for you...but you will give up ownership in exchange.
I recently started my own publishing company
Are you artist and what p.r.o you with?
Yes. And bmi
@@hurtspublishing3906 same here im with bmi my advice for you is do your research on which publishing administration you want to sign up with then also signup with soundexchange as well
How's it going so far..?
So If I am starting my own publishing company, would I be the person to have the full control of my artist's/client's PRO catalog?
Also, If my first client is a producer, how will working with me compare to creating a record label for themselves?
Yessir. As long as you sign them to a pub deal.
I really appreciate your works and wish to have a talk with you. I own a great recording studio and work with a big number of artists, better we talk because you can link me with some people who can help me start my publishing company.
Thanks let’s do it. Grab some time on the site.
Starting your own Publishing Company is very very difficult and almost impossible to register with all the 40 plus different PROS and Mechanical Rights Organizations around the world as registering with ASCAP or BMI doesn't cut it. Registering with HFA directly is near impossible. Songtrust takes care of all that since they have direct relationships with them as you are entering into an Admin deal with a real Music Publishing Company. Songtrust is acutally the technology division of Downtown Music LLC which is the same company that operates Downtown Music Publishing.
Met some peeps from Songtrust recently.. 💭 Good to know..! 📝
I think people would start their own publishing company to split the publishing money not necessarily to do all the promoting
Is this for publishing songs on youtube?
Yes 7 No, this is for publishing as a whole. Check out the 101 series episodes 1-5. It will explain more.
Is starting my own better than using songtrust? Doesn't songtrust have more outlets than what s new individual would?
You can do both Songtrust will partner with you. They take a percentage of your publishing not all of it. You still have your own publishing, they are just managing it.
If you don’t own your publishing you’re throwing away 50% of your royalties.
Basically what he's saying is, don't waste your money if you suck
2020=Liked
How do you buy music out right what steps to make to acquire pubishing from other people?
Money, contracts, expertise & contacts.. lol
Just did a video answering this
@@PhaseVi aw man I asked this question a year ago thx for doing a video on it
Great video, that eye pistol cocked 😭😭. It's all love.
you ugly as hell for that lmao
That's rude man..
Supposed you are starting out but aim to write and create content for others. Is it advisable yo start a publishing company?
Yes!
Bro is better create your own publishing company or join to Songtrust?
Create your own Songtrust just another middle man and they take forever
Depends on your
Short Answer: Depends on your business focus. It's a lot to run a publishing company. Everyone needs to create one but its perfectly fine to partner with or hire organizations to assist. Songtrust is fine. Long Answer: I just recorded a 11min+ video on this. It will drop on ASL(Ask Sirr Love). Thanks for the question.
@@PhaseVi sounds great friend, i will be alert to watch the video. Merry Christmas thanks for answer
10:05 - Hmm, what if u are signing multiple writers..? 🤔💭 I know it's more work but isn't it better to have the protections afforded by an incorporated company..? ⚡ Here in London, u pay less tax through companies too, although u need to be at a certain profit threshold for it to be worthwhile, like u said.. 🙊 It's a tricky one..! 🤷🏾♂️ - @Acharich
Okay so in England you pay less tax than in America on the revenue you make out of your music?
Short Answer: Yes create a publishing company if you are signing multiple writers and sign them to the publishing company. Then go out there and sell the songs.
Long Answer: I just recorded a 5min+ video detailing this further. Lookout for it to drop on the series titled ASL(Ask Sirr Love) on this Channel.
What you think about songtrust?
Songtrust only do publishing administration if that's all you looking for then i would signup but i would do my research before choosing songtrust I'm with songtrust its pretty easy to signup your music
I think they better than tunecore publishing and cdbaby pro is through songtrust
Do realize Songtrust is the same company as *Downtown* that operates *Downtown Music Publishing?* You don't need to start a Publishing company because you're acutally entering in an *Admin Deal* with a real Publishing Company just like Kobalt. Starting your own Publishing is very very difficult and almost impossible to register with all the 40 plus different PROS and Mechanical Rights Organizations around the global. Registering with HFA directly is near impossible. Songtrust takes care of all that since they have direct relationships with them.
@@eman0828 your absolute right this day in age its actually easy to set everything up.
I like songtrust. I think its good for up and coming acts. I do believe that there are better options as you grow in your career but I've heard that SongTrust can make it worth while for growing acts to stay as well.
🇨🇦👊🏿🙏🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You have a Instagram
Wachovia
Great info but one eye has a mind of its own.
you explaining this for ppl who are lazy and looking for a major deal etc.....#this is not in plain english for indy artist who dont care for all that major label crap your talking about....this is how #TLC and #current artist got played .....they didnt have they own publishing co. which is the #entity who pays the song writers etc......
