However, while this is usually a reliable spot to expect orders to be placed it's by no means a guaranteed reversal. No one knows the exact strength of a trend or when it will end. Some trends can push through the biggest levels and some will break out and then completely collapse on themselves. I wouldn't expect to make money on this even if you can reliably identify where orders are placed. Maybe if the move is small enough the guys placing the big orders know where it's going to stop, but when the move is large enough nobody knows exactly where it's going or when it will stop.

    Ill tell you exactly what will happen when you place both a buy/sell position at a certain level with appropriate stops put in place. 1. It could actually work (slim chance, though) 2. It could not work ( a lot more probable) 3. it could first trigger one of your stops and then it could turn around and take your other stop (and now you have double the loss - trust me - due to market makers and large institutions need for liquidity this happening a lot more than most would admit) 4. It could consolidate for as long as you have patients and not hit any of your stop (however, you would eventually have to remove the position and take a marginal loss (slippage) plus commissions simply because of the loss of opportunity else where. 5. It could take one of your stops out and then range for a year where by you would eventually have to take out the position with a loss/marginal gain again because you don't want to loss other opportunities else where (remember you only have a certain amount of leverage to play with) -
    Now the only way this work is with options or say your trading institutional money where you can warehouse losing positions for years without ever having to report it.
    A lot of these institutional guys can't actually trade their own money. If it was that easy, then every institutional trader would quit their jobs after making their first million, fund a forex account and never have to go inside an office/trading floor, nor deal with annoying bosses/clients again.

    • @bakribhai_
      @bakribhai_ Місяць тому +5

      That exactly what I was thinking. They never fund an account and trade it on daily basis and they will never do because they have been taught to just work for clients and execute few trades a year using institutional money. I'm still not sure because I can't trust these institutional traders whom never traded their own account and I also can't understand some retail gurus. I hope you can make me understand because we as a retail traders focus on the movement of these institutions

      If this is your approach to trading then you need master the intricacies of it.. such understanding only comes from a proper experience with it.

  • @tullochgorum6323
    @tullochgorum6323 17 днів тому +12

    Paul's experience is with large institutional accounts. It's a totally different world, and I'm highly sceptical that his experience will carry over into the retail world. Small retail traders have the ability to move in and out of the market in milliseconds with minimal slippage - not an option for corporate desks. There ARE retail strategies that work and produce FAR higher returns than the 50% that Paul is offering. We're part of a loose group using order-block concepts, and most are making hundreds of percent a year, year on year, with modest drawdowns. Of course there's a ceiling to how far this can scale before you run out of liquidity, but it's enough to meet the ambitions of anyone who simply wants a comfortable and secure lifestyle.
    How is this possible? Because the commercial trading that Paul calls random is in fact structured - the traders are using predictable strategies to achieve the best price and maximise their profit margins. These tiny movements are too small for institutional accounts to exploit, but more than enough to give a retail trader a prosperous lifestyle.

So then, technical analysis as we retail traders know it, is all that's needed, according to him.

    • @artistsignature3785
      @artistsignature3785 Місяць тому +31

      I think when most institutional people talk about technical analysis they’re talking about patterns and indicators don’t work. They usually use chart for hard data and overlay their fundamental ideas on top of it, because like he said he’s looking for levels, and those levels are not arbitrary, thus he needs a physical representation of those levels to plan his ideas on.

Take for instance having 10k lots long in 400 pips profit, then heading into CPI or NPF. They need to cover their positions by shorting 2500k Lots, the algorithms will help to smoke those short positions.
      Should the volatility on News day be absorbed without hurting their positions, then they need to exit just as quite as they sold. Then they buy more at discounted prices, their initial 10k long orders are doubled to 20k with another short orders ahead or they will put few take profits along to create retracement and lure more sellers into a bullish market.
      The need to have orders running in the market, whether in profit or loss, otherwise they will have problem getting onboard coz nobody will shake market for them to get better deals. Retracement you see daily are generated strategically using algorithms.
      Opposing orders where the masses believe it's a clear and bullish trend, that's where the Algo starts selling bid by bid until they are filled. Then close the remaining longs and repeat the process again at lower prices.

    Well, if you constantly hedge and don't care where price moves, then you have no incentive to learn and read which direction price will go.
    A wrestler goes into a wrestling match not caring about getting punched in the face, hence, he doesn't have to learn or train his eyes and mind to block punches and kicks.
    If you as a retail trader trades and is consistently profitable, its because you can speculate where price will go majority of the time.
    Either way, good guest with valuable insights. 🍻

    • @ivoriankoua3916

      But with correct hedging applied you can be a winner in all scenarios this is the difference for example I use it in sport betting from time to time and at least I get at break even at worst.
      This is a scenario , you take a long position with a RR of 3 and then you also think at this accumulation level it could be a redistribution so a possibility for a higher RR let's suppose 5 , you are sure that this level will generate volatility but don't know the direction.
      You can edge in this scenario easily and cut the first position at break even once the direction is identified and let the other runs.
      You can even take this further by using options trading to edge your positions instead of doing it only with CFD , the result would be phenomenal

    • @luislopez8494
      @luislopez8494 21 день тому

      It's interesting what you say. So, the way to do it will be, don't be ansious about what direction will be, wait until the direction is clear and then close the losser position?
      I think that of course, you prefer range markets that with time would have a resolution in term of where will go the price, so staying patient and prepared to manage the hedge when the moment comes.
      Sorry my English🙏 not a native speaker.

    I think Paul here is somewhat typical of time served floor traders, they come from a different era, one where technical trading was not the primary method of profiting. There are several documentaries on YT, showing the difficulty and disdain older floor traders have for charts as the main decision making process.
    Here's the thing, as a trader you need to find something that repeats. Something that happens with enough reliability to make it a probable event. Paul Scott here in this interview, describes the levels he will trade from, because history shows him these levels will probably be respected and movement will follow. He seems to equate 'technical analysis' with predicting where price will go. This of course is not how many successful traders view it, and many very accomplished traders use it to quantify areas of probability. Calling it 'bullshit' is just a bit stunted and painfully reductive for my liking. Trade what you see, not what you think.

    Great interview and fantastic interviewee, very funny and knowledgeable! Your channel is getting one of the best places on youtube to listen to top traders! Congratulations,
    Of course technical analyses works also levels, which I called them V's, just open any chart and zoom out and you will see why I called them that! Technical analyses helps avoid trusting your senses because trading is a deception everyday and an emotional war waged by banks, therefore having something beside your beliefs, biases and senses will always help! But it takes time(years) to ignore your own opinions and follow only the rules! Good luck
