A student of mine has registered a strong desire to learn Serpent's Kiss. I got out the score and read it, then immediately thought I should see a finished performance with all the "choreography". This girl's performance is the best I have seen (heard). She has the spirit, an overall rhythmic groove, clarity, fingers, and inventiveness to make this a completely scintillating performance. She has unique gifts for music of our time, as you can see from other pieces on this recital. There is much to be said for her partners making all of the aspects of her performance visible to the audience. Hugely enjoyable! I'm sure her husband enjoyed it as well!
Perfection! Got the stomps and the whistling there as well! This is my go-to video for demonstrating this piece to my students. By far the best performance I've seen of this piece on youtube!
I especially love the part with the syncopated knocking on the piano! Sadly, I could only find the rendition for two people, the four hands version. Does anyone know where to find the solo sheet music for this song? I would be very grateful! :)
Thank you so much! This piece is part of The Garden of Eden suite, which is included in the complete volume of Bolcom rags. You can find it here: www.amazon.com/William-Bolcom-Complete-Piano-Revised/dp/0634001825 (I haven't seen the Garden of Eden solo version sold separately.)
The first time I heard this song, the young man playing it decided to use his foot on the keyboard where the music had written that the notes were to be "palmed."
there is no worldly reason this video shouldn't have over a million views. just... wow. BRAVA
The best performance of this piece on UA-cam, by far.
Thank you so much!! That means a lot.

Music with every cell and more!
You dominate that piano. Such an amazing performance

Really great performance with all the 'special effects' coming through!
Certainly the most beautiful version I've heard of this piece of Bolcom. With originality ! Thank you to share :)
Thanks, Evelyne!
That's a performance that brings the Serpent to its knees!
Uh, with serpents, that’s not a very good metaphor.
Wonderful! Great music, great performance! Thanks a lot.
Does anyone have the music sheets?

@@MelissaCoppola Thank you! What a wonderfully sinuous song to play!

Even the stuffiest of classical reviewers would agree that this performance kicks ass.
Where did Melissa Coppola perform 'The Serpent's Kiss' by William Bolcom?
👏👏👏
Bravo, the nicest version I have heard so far. Which recital Hall is this one? Who is the percussionist?
