Robin is such an awsome artist. Barry get's the most attention due to his amazing falsetto. But Robin, he's able to pour his heart and soul into his music, and that comes through. When you'll continue going down the rabbit hole, you'll learn about this yourself. Each Bee Gees has amazing talent and combined it's just magical.
I just found out the other day that when Robin died, his son placed a small recorder playing the song I Started A Joke on his chest, and then he just broke down. That song was Robins signature song that he always sang by himself.
Soft and sweet and soothing .. perfect description 😊 . This is from the 1968 album " Idea " which was released as a single in December , the same year . This was not released as a single In the UK . As always I enjoyed and smashed the thumbs up !!
Wow - thanks for featuring my very favorite - Robin - so unique and sweet.. and he wrote this when he was 18 yrs. old... and sounds almost exactly the same! All them Gibb boys were fantastic! Also, listen to "Massachusetts" and "New York Mining disaster"...
So glad to add you to the millions of Robin devotees. His voice is one of a kind. Please react to For Whom the Bell Tolls - the one recorded in NYC on a cold winter day in 1993. You will not want to miss this one.
Most of the reaction channels that have gone down the Bee Gees rabbit hole have focused mostly on their post disco-era music -- stuff they released as part of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and after. But honestly, most of us who hold the Bee Gees in such high regard that we hold them up there with the Beatles and Beach Boys as one of the three or four best groups ever will tell you that perhaps their best work was BEFORE the disco era. Check out songs like "Words," "Massachusetts," "To Love Somebody" and "Holiday" to name a few. Trust me, you'll enjoy them.
Their music was so good in the 60's they impressed Elvis enough he chose to perform their song "Words" on stage in his first engagement at the international hotel in Las Vegas. There is video of him singing it.
When we first started seeing Bee Gees on Australian Bandstand, Six O'clock Rock & JOK, etc they were these Squeaky sounding kids, But then their Apprentership paid off they had discovered how to use their Voices and write their own material we then only had them for a short time with them moving to England then America. On their return to tour Australia their early material had to be the feature not just a medley, Australians prefer their early material to Saturday Night Fever & other Disco stuff. Who could not love Robin's Voice? Would have loved to have seen Bee Gees performing with John Farnham
This 1968 song became Robin’s solo spotlight signature. Some people think it’s sad, but it’s mostly creative witty humorous poetry, so be sure to hear that side of it and find joy. I prefer the 1989 live performance when Robin was looking and singing at his all time career best. His vocals weren’t as strong, the lyrics weren’t perfect, he had lost his hair and his clothes didn’t seem to fit just right, making it sadder for me to see. It shouldn’t be your only impression of this special song. If you’re keeping a list, be sure to add add the 1988 performance so you can revisit this song again later.
Because my mum was always playing this kind of music when i was a kid, I absorbed it with out paying attention to it, I didn't even know who was singing the most of them. Seeing people enjoy it so much shows how good mum' taste in music is, and appreciate how truly brilliant some of them were. They became such Disco icon's people forgot or didn't know how good there pre/non disco music is. Thanks good luck with your channel. "To love somebody" and "Words" are really good
There is a video from 1968 of this song, when Robin was only 18 or 19 and had lots of hair. It's beautiful to see someone so young with so much feeling.
Nice to see your reaction from someone lot younger than those of us who were born in the 50-60`s, to music of the past can still give such emotion. I want this son played at the end of my Funeral.
Good morning once again you have picked the right reaction live video each video reminds me of my younger years this is what I listened to growing up thank you for making me smile each and every time your channel is growing because your honest reviews the way you respond to you family is a true blessing keep up the amazing work so happy I found your channel ❤
Robin John, Robin's younger son, was there when his father passed in hospital and they took the equipment away. He returned to see his Dad, at peace, looked up 'I started a joke' on youtube, on his smart phone and let it play resting the phone on Robins chest. He said to him at that moment it was the most appropriate way to say 'goodbye'. It was used at his funeral too. As was, 'Rings around the moon'.
The BeeGees had some Great music in their early years. This is a great example of the well written songs that originally made them famous in the 60's. They had a resurgence with the "Saterday Night Fever" soundtrack in the late 70s when they became wildly famous for their disco music.
They are amazingly talented brothers. If you want another suggestion from this era try "To Love Somebody". It was one of their biggest hits from the 60's. Thank for doing this. It's important to introduce younger generations to this amazing type of music!
For your enjoyment, watch their Las Vegas One Night Only concert on UA-cam. It gives you a good look at their great library of songs. You will love it!
You need to listen to their song called run to you I think it's from 1970 I was seven at the time but I remember liking the song I had no idea at the time who sang it I just knew I liked
Please react to the Live version of the Bee Gees song You Should be dancing. Andy Gibb the youngest brother of the Bee Gees sings with his brothers. it is great when you can see all 4 together.
I just popped in to say something though another may have done so already. MASSACHUSETTS!!! Another that showcases Robin and there is a live! I’m a year late so for all I know you’ve done it already. ✌️
What is the background track playing during the intro around 1.10? Also Robin's 'Boys do Fall in Love'. Amazingly typical 80s track! That would be a great react, especially the video. Ground breaking at the time,
Their sister Lesley was a good singer as well, they sang as a group a few times with her back in the 60's, but the lifestyle was not for her. She still lives here in Australia.
He said he played it on an iPod. He never sang it. The song was also played at his funeral. Robin's two sons were present, Spencer (1972) and RJ (1983) and daughter Melissa (1974).
Check out this video. It's too short to react to, but it shows just how incredible their vocals are. Just Barry's guitar and the three voices. It's from this same concert which is about 30 years after their careers began. They even seem to be having fun with how good they sound. ua-cam.com/video/PNz-iR_f2QI/v-deo.html
What makes this song even sadder, is that his younger son, RJ, sang this at Robin's death bed, and then at his funeral. FYI, that odd vibration in his voice is called vibrato.
RJ is Robin's youngest son born in the 1980's. Spencer is his first child born in 1972 (Melissa in 1974) and has a lot of talent. RJ played this on an iPod when Robin was dying and it was played at his funeral, not sung by RJ.
Robin has vibrato (not tremolo) which is a central nervous system effect on the vocal cords. Good vibrato is rare and found in very few people. It's a rapid repetitive change of PITCH in a millisecond like A to A# to A to A#, etc. You either have it or you don't. Tremolo is what Barry uses to try to emulate vibrato. It is a conscious change in VOLUME on the same note. It's not the same thing and is a learned technique but can sound a bit similar. One natural, one learned.
I understand he had this played at his funeral. RIP Robin.
It's one of the worlds great tragedies that Robin is no longer with us. He had the voice of an angel, and now he is one.
Robin Gibb was no 'JOKE', and when he died NOBODY LAUGHED, everybody CRIED!! MASTERPIECE!!
A Masterpiece 💓
Did you know that as he was dying he asked his son to play this song on his chest and passed as it was playing
@@spencespencer4055 HEARTBREAKING😢
Beautiful words and fit perfectly for Robin. RIP MO, ROBIN and ANDY, Godspeed Barry.
@@djs3484 Thanks Man!
I love the Bee Gees, but Robin was in a league of his own. Incredible voice and emotion! So sensual and vulnerable at the same time.
Robin’s voice was like no other, so beautiful and unique. He said in an interview once that he sang not with his voice, but with his heart. ❤🥺
That live performance got him a whole minute of standing ovation back in 1997/8 from the audience.......
At least as long in Melbourne in 1989.
His voice hits deep in the soul😢
Robin has a beautiful voice, he had a strange way of emotional songs!!! Please keep playing the Bee Gees!!!
His voice is "haunting."

Well said 👏
Vibrato perfection, always makes me cry and ive heard it 100s of times adored Robins voice
its just sad that Robin, and Maurice have passed away, there will never another group like them
This is the song that played to my SEVERE 19yr old angst and introduced me to the Bee Gees. I love my Brothers Gibb!!
Alone is a beautiful BG song.
I’m thrilled the younger generation is now enjoying the music I grew up with. 👏🏼

Hauntingly beautiful
The reason some of the early songs seem short is because radio stations wouldn't play songs longer than 3 minutes.
