It doesn't need a HP buff, it needs a very slight shell velocity buff and improved turning circle/rudder shift time to mitigate the terrible firing arcs. Shell travel time should be more in line with hindenburg or goliath. Turning circle should be ~75-125m shorter and rudder shift time 1-1.5 seconds shorter
The thing has the worst turning circle out of all the IJN ships, Yamato and Shikishima both turn tighter than this. Changing the rudder shift time was about as usefull as giving a blind man better shades ...
Its even worse considering that unlike the previous ships in the tech tree line , this is a full torpedo boat with its guns only serving as secondary weapons, you basicly play it like a Kitakami. Which means you will need to turn around alot much more often then usual and will suffer from the horrible turning circle synergy much more.
To be fair, Yamato in real life was a very, very nimble ship considering her hull length and beam. She had the same tactical turning circle as an Iowa class BB even though she out displaced the Iowa by 20k tons. The hull form and rudders of the Yamato class were very advanced for her time.
Doesn't matter if the buff the rudder, the turning circle still sucks so you take ages to turn and can't dodge easily. The ballistics are too bad too. Also it should have the same deck armor as Atago, that would certainly help.
If you use torps as the main weapon, do you often open fire with your main abttery or remain undetected most of the times during battle? And do you run a completely full torpedo build on your Yodo or a bit of a mix?
I went for Yodo over Zao, I have about thirty-five games in it now, and what I've found is that if you approach it with the mindset of a destroyer, especially in early game, it works a lot better. Yodo is an ambush pradator: using the torpedoes to cut off choke points and the guns to finish off destroyers and light cruisers who get too eager. Only in the in the late game is when you wanna switch to your main battery as your primary damage dealer to punish low hp ships with high alpha strikes and fire chances. (I usually don't take IFHE Yodo because I don't think it makes that much of a difference, you're better off lighting fires on BB and CA then going for the alpha strike on them anyway). As for the low shell velocity, there's not much I can say except get better at leading. You can go for distracted targets at range, but Yodo's main battery works a lot better at mid to close ranges. Now my playstyle is less concerned about rolling high damage numbers and more about winning matches. Also call me a masochist, but I actually prefer ships that are more difficult to play over the easy and consistent ones; it makes the dopamine rushes feel more earned I guess.
Personally I'd take 155 Mogami over ether Zao or Yodo(I have Zao and refuse to go past Omono in the light line unless the T8/9/10 get some fairly massive buffs), better MM and basically on par in terms of damage output. Honestly Mogami being a thing is my argument against grinding for Yodo. Yodo being only a minor improvement over Mogami and the grind to get to Yodo being horrible, makes Mogami the much more tempting ship.
@@evolutionari And I'm still wondering why they would buff just the turn rate. They could have improved the torps as well, since it seems to be of the same style as Jinan.
the extra reduced turning enabled him to wiggle his back to take shots and reposition so your keeping broadside to a minimum. I use the same concept when i play the Puerto Rico. You lose conceal, but you can angle/dodge a ton and make your life so much easier to line up a full broadside salvo and go back to neutral position.
Yodo is fine. Ima light cruiser main, so I'm very used to many of the aspects that non cruiser players don't like. That said, I can't think of a situation where she would be a top 3 pick of mine. But I seem to enjoy the challenges of making a "bad ship" work well. I guess a degree of masochism is a base requirement to play this game!😉 o7
Might still need another buff or two, but at least it's slightly less of a demonstration of what Petro with absolutely no armour would look like. I wouldn't mind seeing more Yodo videos either, perhaps with some different builds.
I feel the whole IJN light cruiser line is designed for spamming torps on open-water to halt enemies' pushing. More like a destroyer style. The ships are just too lengthy to maneuver, even for IJN heavy cruises, I enjoy playing as destroyers' bodyguard to risk myself in a very dangerous position to target majorly on enemy destroyers. As main in cruisers, I feel those guns (of IJN light cruisers) are quite limited and you can support your destroyers in a limited way. (I am running the captain skills invested in torps for the top three rows)
Yodo's biggest problem isn't the rudder shift. It's the range. Because it's range is so much higher than the rest of the line, it's VERY difficult to shoot from cover - the dd the next cap point over will detect you. I'd love an option to drop it down to 15 or 16km. Also, CVs have learned to avoid the Yodo because of it's nasty AA, so it's not surprising that the Malta didn't attack you.
If this video is as sarcastic as I feel it is, then hats off to your dry humour. I particularly enjoyed the repeated references to the rudder shift actually making a difference.
Buff definitely did not contribute to the result. But... I have been told so many times by clan mates and CC's on UA-cam that it's not worth halving your fire chance by taking IFHE. Let me be real with you. If you CAN use IFHE, you are most probably a cruiser that need to play around islands for survival. And not many maps allow you to camp permanently behind islands and BURN a target down. Fire damage can be largely healed back, so your damage numbers might be high, but the battle impact could be low. I ALWAYS take IFHE...screw fire chance. That pen damage on superstructures cannot be healed back in the same way. And sometimes that is the difference between a ship clutching another kill before going down, or sinking while you and your teammate move on to another target. I checked my T8 Cleveland numbers...pre and post-taking IFHE. Without IFHE average damage was 85k, 1.5 kills. Swithed to IFHE. Average damage is almost unchanged at 84k, but 2.4 kills per battle. Your result here was thanks to IFHE...no doubt. When you play a ship with floaty shells and no pen its difficult to set another fire once they put one out. The experience becomes tedious and you associate the ship with mediocrity. But when you see between 4 and 8k salvos when your aim is true, even though there's no fires, the ship takes on a different guise.
As expected, good and high quality video... I would like to see an updated video on your mods (specially which ones u are using)... I just cant find all of them and that is why i would like to see it. Or u just write a comment ... Ty see u next time.

Yodo just doesnt work as a light cruiser. Zao is more light cruiser than Yodo, its smaller, better handling, more dpm. I also still don't get why WG went with a gun that had no naval use in the IJN while we had the 155mm gun already
In regards to shell velocity for certain calibers there needs to be a bottom line... that no matter how shit guns could have been they can't lower the bar...and that's why I am a proponent of Goliath style arcs for yodo.
Just tried this cruiser line its one of my last lines I didnt go for and jeah... Yodo truly is special and I would say its one of the worst tier 10 cruisers if not THE worst. It really has nothing to go for it other than AA.
How this ship made it out of testing in even it's current state, is a literal crime. How the F did the testers not come to the conclusion it was a complete joke. It's only purpose is to be a damage pinata for superships and most other Tier 10 ships. They try to bait you on the torps, but their slow and easily detectable. Do not build into them. I'd like to point out. Not only did that, Kurfurst nail him, but he did it with his front turrets only.... That was some serious RNG. Like winning the lottery kind of RNG level.
man, I got the yodo a while ago. what a disapointment. cant pen anything. long reload for low damage. explodes upon sighting if you're not carefull. mega turnin circle.

Too much of Yodo is balanced around the Torpedoes which are not effective in a cruiser like this. Also, the rudder shift buff doesn't fix the awful turning circle it has. Some Battleships turn better than this thing does.
