  • Minutes from the Raleigh-Durham area Falls Lake is an easy to get to reservoir that's stuffed with crappie. While anglers shouldn't expect trophy size crappie it's a great place to take kids to catch numbers. We convinced Wes Jordan of Redbeard Cats Guide Service to take us on a quick fishing trip here for two short hours before he had to go to work. Armed with live Chartreuse Fire Dye minnows caught dozens of crappie while filming this episode of Pautzke Outdoors.
*Editor's Note: This wasn't a planned destination for Pautzke Outdoors. Meanwhile, our trip to the Outer Banks was cancelled due to Hurricane Maria brushing the coast. Instead of sitting in the hotel waiting for the storm to pass we chose to fun-fish Falls Lake and bring the cameras along.

Love Wake County's (Wake Forest's) Falls Lake reservoir. Great place to boat and fish.

Falls lake is awesome. I have caught some slab crappie there. It holds a pretty good population of trophy bass as well.

I so love fishing in the fall for crappies. I think it's the best time to fish for crappies in the fall then it is in the spring. I guess it depends where you live and where you fish at. Me I fish the Walnutport Canal or Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania Munk Chunk Lake for crappies. For some reason I have much better luck in the fall when I do crappie fishing then in the spring for crappies. I don't know why but I just do and I don't care. As long as I can get my nice big crappies and catch a lot of them I'm fine with it. It's also like that when I'm fishing for trout also in the fall. There's just something about fall fishing that's more better than the spring in the summer. Why that is I don't. At least I'm catching my two favorite fish in the fall trout and crappies.

Man I don't what your talking about "not as big" on Falls Lake. Falls Lake has some SLABS you just need to know where and how to catch them.
