The issue with the ThinkPad Edge series is that the components were trash. Sad but true. There were lots of stories back in the day about keyboard and ODD failures. My Edge (either a 13 or 14, IIRC) never had those go wrong, but the display was a monstrous pain in the nuts. It would randomly go extremely dim and stay that way, sometimes until 2-3 reboots later, and the speakers died on me. The display cable wasn't loose, the speaker cable hadn't fallen out, just bad hardware. It took me until 2016 to give ThinkPads another shot, and I'm very glad I did, but I avoid the E-series (which is what the Edge morphed into, more or less) like the plague.
While I don't have this model?...(ThinkPad T-410 / T-420 / T-430 / T-460) the models I DO have?...are still alive and kicking!...and I find it amazing that while the newer laptops coming out are all sleeker, lighter, and faster?....they're also not exactly environment friendly!....if you consider it, someone runs out there to buy a middle-of-the-road laptop, and they get something with 8GB of RAM, that's soldered on, and an i5 maybe, they also get something with a 256GB SSD. And while this kind of device might be ok for just connecting to the internet, accessing emails, watching Netflix etc?...because there's no way to increase the RAM.,...or swap out the CPU for a more powerful one....then they're instantly limited, and after a few years of usage, and the usual buildup of files in the Windows "temp" folders and such...they l;eft with a machine that's weighed down by trashy files and folders and not much else. The more people can extend the life of their devices the better it is for all of us....less metals, less plastics, less wasted precious metals, and you get the advantage of being able to say you own a piece of history...LoL!
Another excellent video @TechHarvest. Thank you. Regarding buying things on eBay: do you typically enter a bid and see how things come out? Or do you go with the "Buy It Now" button, when available of course? Also, I think your idea of cloning the drive (or just replacing it) and then having the original to reinstall before you sell it is very smart. That's something I've never thought about. And I'm very interested to see how your "living in Linux" experiment goes.
Long time eBayer here... most listings for laptops are going to have bids at the last possible second before the auction ends. For example, a 7-day laptop auction can have 1 or 2 bids for the majority of the time period, but will get 10 or 15 bids in the last 5 seconds. If you make a bid and then hope to win, you probably won't win. You have to snipe like everyone else, all the action happens at the end. I usually just go for Buy It Now or I wait for someone to crowd their own listings. If someone posts 10 Thinkpads at the same time, buyers will disperse and the cost for each one will be lower at auction. Look for 10 Thinkpads in a row all ending around the same time.
@@FlyboyHelosim You won't be able to do full-fledged 3d game programming, but if you're doing simple C, python scripts, etc you'll be fine on this machine.
@@icxcarnie Yeah but I guess by "fully-fledged 3D game programming" you're talking about WYSIWYG elements that translate your code in real-time. The basic act of programming itself, which is just typing code, can like I said be done on anything.
@@FlyboyHelosim No shit, that's literally one of the most important aspects of programming. You're never just gonna write code and not try to compile it/see the output

The yellow usb, I believe, you can use them to charge your devices while the notebook is off.
