Seems unreal that he's 6-8 ply deep in his analysis less than a second in. And after about one more second he's intuiting a couple of variations. But that's what's possible with an eidetic memory.
Magnus has tremendous evaluation skills and that's largely developed after a zillion blitz games. There's little time to pick a position apart in detail, so one has to judge more wholistically. How good was White's Ne5 and Black's Re8? How good was White's Qh4 and Black's ...Qe6? These are the same kinds of comparisons Kasparov discussed. He called it "quality of the pieces".
The opponent didn't put up a fight. He played well but one whole minute more. It seems all correct until you go into the end game and THERE in 2 secs he DESTROYS the king fortress with a genius sacrifice of the rooks supported by the pawns structure on his left side. The opposite king had nowhere to go and he saw it in monuments 4 or 5 moves before. It is not destroying the caro-Kann. It is better playing the middle of the game. Magnus is one of the best player ever (with capablanca, Karpov, Kasparov, Alekhine or Fischer of course). It is not surprising that he plays more creative game that any of his today's opponent. It has nothing to do with the caro-kann.

How about Kramnik
