È Porta Vecchia, costeggiata dalla cinta muraria, a introdurre nella parte antica della città, adagiata sull’Adriatico e dominata dal Castello. Cuore della città vecchia è la barocca Cattedrale di Santa Maria della Madia.
Una grande piazza bianca dove le case del suo centro sono ricoperti di calce e molte sono dimora di pescatori. E poi chiese, chiassi e piazze, palazzi nobiliari del Settecento. Das historische Zentrum von Monopoli ist ein Juwel der Volksarchitektur, gemischt mit prächtigen religiösen Gebäuden und prächtigen Adelspalästen.
