I've been in production as a filmmaker and editor making commercials, movies, tv, you name it, for over 20 years in Los Angeles. And I have to say that watching these videos that these two amazing people put together are so inspirational. Another awesome video guys, the music in this one especially at the end was so beautiful. Can't wait for the next one.

I love the tree. Instead of cutting it down next time, dig it up and put it in a large pot. Use it for the holidays, then move it back outside 😊. It will get bigger every year. Could be 8 feet by the time to have your house built!

Most of my life I have had a huge problem with being overwhelmed. From the start of you both purchasing the bare land and the dream of building a farm I can only imagine how overwhelming it was. Watching how your channel has grown and changed from a van life to a homesteading/farm building has been such a pleasure. It has pushed me into tackling some jobs that I couldn’t see even starting because of the size. My saying that I am always repeating to myself now is “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” Sometimes it is only one bite others I am able to eat a huge chunk.
Seeing you create the tounge and grove and the amount you need, every step is a bite and I am so proud of what you both have accomplished! Much love

I think a good lesson in life I learned (even tho I wish I had learned this 30 years ago) was to just let things flow and then just go. Trying to put artificial deadlines on things doesn't always work out well for the soul. It's good to have a goal, but flexibility and grace while getting there is essential.

And after he opened it, he said to my daughter I never thought I would say this, but I’m so grateful now when somebody gives me Coffee as a gift. I try to send him enough so that he doesn’t have to buy anything of less value. Thanks to you guys I was able to introduce them to the pour over in the grinders. And now it’s just become part of your life. They don’t even think of making coffee any other way. Thank you so much for the education.

Hello ! I just build myself a sauna in my barn, and it took me couple of time to get it working properly. Think about a place where air from outside will come into the sauna ( more at the bottom of the wall and close to the source of heat, and an other trap to get some air out, most of the time close to the ceiling, that make a lot of a difference. Have fun in it ;)

Very ambitious undertaking to produce tongue & groove boards from non-uniformly milled lumber! Mahogany is so expensive in the US, it's hard to imagine a sauna built with it! But, you gotta use what you can get. I bet it's gonna be amazing when it's finished... KUDOS, guys!

We bought a bundle of oak wood from a local sawmill. It was the same- my husband worked hard to make it as uniform as possible and then put the pieces together like a puzzle to make 6 raised bed planters for my vegetable garden. And yes, we collected the sawdust and I used it in my compost. ❤️

Back in Canada 🇨🇦 my boys are adults and these balls ( a few have survived) are there favourites.

    Jordan,
Just watching your video where you are having the issue with both sides of your cypress boards being uneven. You elected to use a “skill” saw with a straight edge to straighten out one side of each board so that you can use your table saw to cut out each board to the correct width. It might be faster to tack a straight edge board to the back side of each board. Run the board through with the straight edge in contact with the fence and use the table saw to make the first cut, remove the straight edge and then make the second cut. Since you’re using the back side of each board to attach the straight edge, the scars will be hidden.😊

Mahogany wood is beautiful, but that’s the perfect wood for your project (water resistant) since it does spectacular with projects where water is a constant, aka humidity. It doesn’t warp easily, great in all seasons and types of weather. Home run with your choice!
“It’s going to be a lot of work, but I’m ready for it.”
Question: what are you two NOT ready for? Because you have literally went to a place where building a community like you did with two people and some very good helpers is nearly impossible and yet you did it. Not only did you do it, you did it absolutely beautifully and got the most lovely extended family in the process. You two truly blow my mind at your abilities, positive attitude, work ethics, and just need to succeed all the time. Then add to that with raising this intelligent, gorgeous little girl that’s probably the most well rounded child any of us know. Haha You both should be so proud of yourselves.💪🏽💕⭕️

Hey, to cut a straight edge on the lumber with the table saw is easy. Just take one of the boards that you have already cut and made straight. Width doesn't really matter. Now lay it on top of a non straight board. Move the top straight board to the right a couple of inches. Next screw the two boards together on each end. The screws don't have to be all the way tight just enough to hold them together. So now you have a straight edge on the right side to run along the table saw fence. Finally, measure from the straight edge to the narrowest point on the crooked side. That is the measurement for setting your fence. Hope this makes sense.

I still don’t do it right. Sadly she’s no longer here to correct me, but Mom still is & does! I hope you have a beautiful Christmas with your little family. Can’t wait to see what Santa brings Sadie. I love your videos. Make a sled for the tablesaw to streighten out the wood. A piece of plywood wider than your planks with 2 streight sides. A short screw on each end from the bottom will hold the planks while the first edge is run through the tablesaw. Perfect edge made very quickly. Also, make sure the harware(nails, screws) in the sauna is corrosion resistant. Steel nails will rust and drip rust lines in a short time. Good luck, can't wait for next week!

Wishing you guys a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays. I know you must still be exhausted from driving around the States, so I hope you get some good quality rest

you guys are awesome, but I have never understood chopping down an entire tree for just a few days or weeks. Seems the opposite of sustainable. Maybe plant a Christmas-tree type tree in a planter than can be moved in and out of the house each year to be decorated?

Actually I understand very well that you want/need a sauna in the mountains. We are in the Andes at 2200 meters altitude in Colombia so yeah. I am watching and learning because would love a sauna one day ❤😅

That woodworker again! Again with a couple of comments (meant to be helpful. Definitely not criticism): Cedro and cedar are the same, BUT there are different types of cedar. Here in Mexico (at least where I am) we get Cedro real and Cedro odorato (the nice smelling one), but there is also spanish cedar which I THINK they use for saunas, but I could be wrong. Anyway, normally mahogany (caoba) should do fine with moisture as it is a tropical wood. But then in Scandinavia they use pine for saunas, so I think just about any wood will work.
Your planer has two feed speeds (the big knob that says 1 and 2). If you put it on speed 2, it will feed the wood through faster. And if you do plane a board, make sure to do at least take a bit off of each side in the same 'session'. newly planed wood releases moisture and if you only do one side, there is a high(er) change the board will warp, twist and/or cup.
I cringed when you tried to use the table saw to get a straight edge by shaving off an eight of an inch, but you quickly found out that doesn't work. There are ways to do that, but the way you chose next was a very good and safe one, so 👍.
    Happy holidays!

You've probably already finished all the Sauna boards... Make a jointing jig for the table saw that you can cut a straight cut then it would be much faster as you only have to do that jig once!!!!

The widths can be different, but you do need straight edges. Cant wait to see how you put it all together.

If and when you build your house. I would use the foam board for the walls as well. It will cut down the damp wet and humidity when you have all that wind and rain. It will also help with heating as well!
