  • The owner of this SABA Breisgau Automatic 125 chassis asked if I could power it up 'as-is'. I changed out only one capacitor (suppressor across the power transformer B+ secondary winding as it looked in really bad shape and could easily have burned-out the winding. After a few resistance checks, and testing the tubes, I power the chassis up slowly (over an hour or so) in 25vAC increments using a Sencore 'Powerite' Variac/isolation transformer. The chassis started operating at around 90vAC line voltage, and at 117vAC line voltage, the chassis is drawing around 55W. It is working on AM and FM, though the automatic (motorized) tuning is not working correctly (someone had previously worked on that section of the circuit). Its now up to the owner to decided whether to undertake any further work on this chassis, which was sent to me only as a potential parts donor for another SABA chassis I worked on for him (Freiburg 7).
