  • This is a demonstration of our small Gate Shut Spring, in this video we show how to install the gate closer spring on a chain link gate.
Installing the gate closer spring is quite easy, you need to remove the brackets that secure the gate to the post and then make room to spin the gate shut spring down over the gate frame.
After the spring is installed around the gate frame you reattach the gate frame to the post and then install the clamps that hold the spring, while the clamp bolts are still loose you can apply tension to the spring and then tighten the bolts to secure the clamp.

I bought one of these and it works well...couple of other pointers though...I found it easier to install if I left the chain link part unattached until after I had the clamp on the spring tightened. Also my gate was rectangular with a small post on top, as opposed to the rounded corner top of the gate in the video, I got the spring on but it took some muscle because of the shape of my gate, nevertheless it did go on an the device works really well.

I got mine direct from gateshut. It was the best price and they sent it out the same day. Got it in 3 days. Here is an installation note: My fence was older and the cross pieces were welded horizontal pipes instead of the one piece curved pipe like the one in the demo, so the spring couldn't be slid down over the cross piece. You had to start the spring under the cross piece. You can still install the spring, it's just a little more difficult. Orient the spring in the direction you want it and lay the bottom of it into the pipe. Turn the spring as you kind of force it to follow the pipe. It goes hard but by keeping pressure on the spring when you need to you can get the pipe to follow the spring channel. When you get to the top, the tip of the spring will be on the wrong side of the pipe due to that little bend that is there to hold it to the gate. Force it out and then over the gate pipe being careful not to over extend it possibly deforming it. Then you simply align it and bolt the clamp down. Mine works fine.
