I feel like four words sum up David's era: Happy, then immediate sadness. This song is absolutely amazing. While at first glance you see it as a standard love song, when you put it in the context of the episodes, it's one of the saddest, most well thought out pieces of music ever made. This is my second favorite score from Doctor Who, after, of course, the absolute perfection that is Vale Decem.
The best part of this song is that it played at the beginning of Tennant's run: an entire series before the events of Canary Warf. God, I miss Russel T. Davies.
I still can't believe they never played the extended version somehow in the show when the extra verses where added AFTER Doomsday! It's just one of those things I suppose.
Listening to this song on repeat today, after hearing the news that Ten, Donna and Wilf are coming back. And I can’t stop crying, this is the saddest song ever. My era was Ten’s era and when he left, my heart broke into pieces. It was never the same for me. I grieve Ten’s departure to this day.
It's funny, I listened to this quite a few times with my girlfriend last year-she loved Doctor Who-and now we're apart, it didn't work between us, she's married and I am as happy as could be with the real girl of my dreams, but still sometimes it's hard not to remember her, and especially now, listening to this music... Sweet memories can hurt a bit, even though it doesn't make any sense.
It's been a few months since I first watched 'Doomsday' and I was actually recovering but this song... this song brought back the sobbing... I've never sobbed at a TV show before Doomsday... damn doctor who... THIS SONG NEEDS TO LEAVE ME AND MY EMOTIONS ALONE
This scene makes me cry every single time. I remember watching just feeling my eyes well up with tears just ready to spill down my cheeks. Especially when he started to cry
When I first heard this song I didn't know Doctor Who, and I though It was about a man who just died and was talking to his wife from the afterlife, and now I can't unheard It and It is almost more heartwrecking than the actual meaning of the song.
Lindsey Duquette I always feel title is ambiguous. Is this Rose singing to The Doctor? Or is it finally The Doctor telling Rose how much he loves her? Maybe a mixture of the two. Either way it is what it is - a love song for a couple who could never be a couple.I have watched Dr Who since 1963. I never cried at all in the early years. Now it seems that the tears fall every episode. I am not saying all is "perfect" now. Yes, the effects are better. Yes, the acting is better. Is the story writing better? I would say yes in a way but only in a way. The show now caters for a different viewing public. Girls don't want to see the companions just screaming!!!! If the shows from the early years were rewritten with new dialogue and new effects but same basic plot they would be as good as anything we have seen since 2005.Ultimately what Dr Who has bought to us since 2005 is emotion and the most important emotion of all - LOVE. And that is why we all cry.
Heartbreaking song, it makes me cry thinking of the scene and rose and the tenth doctor and every character from that series and it also makes me wish I was back in that part of my life.
I lost my dog and best friend today and this comes up... I always felt like if the old guy could speak he'd sound like this. I put on some Doctor Who music to try and cheer up and the playlist gives me my old pal telling me that he woke up today on the other side, how I can see him in my dreams, and reminding me how we learned to run and had a merry time... The picture at 3:07 is me right about now.
Ok I'm french and I have never understood the entire lyrics. I understood some but those one : our time will never come again / have a good life do it for me, and some other, no. -> then tears came into my eyes. So ... This song was a sort of prediction about Rose's futur ? Too much feelings ..
+Thefriendlycat ah non merci c'est gentil ! En fait je voulais dire qu'avant de voir les lyrics j'avais compris les dernières paroles, mais maintenant que je les aient vues, ça va Mais merci beaucoup quand même c'est très gentil ! :)
terrific episode.. yes tennant is kept firmly off in the wings. but billie piper more than holds her own (smart girl from humble roots. saviour of planet earth - whichever dimension)
Yes it's a real song - but it was created mainly for Doctor Who. And there are actually two versions of this song. The original version was used in the episode "The Christmas Invasion" and was performed by Tim Phillips. This version (in the video) is the one from the soundtrack album - performed by Neil Hannon - with additional lyrics added that refer more to the events in the episode "Doomsday".
Yup. This song is played at the end of the first episode of David Tennant as the Doctor. (the Christmas Invasion) It's played when he chooses his clothes. Just before they say that Harriet Jones 'is tired' on TV while they're eating at Rose place.
Personally I think it's The Doctor singing to Rose. For instance the line 'You can see me now and then' is most likely referring to his 9th regeneration that he underwent whist he was travelling with Rose and how Rose kinda knew him in 2 different incarnation's first as Chris Eccleston b4 but then again as Tennant after
Well, David Tennant played the Doctor with such a sincerity & grit & fire, that well, for me, made him one of my most favorite Doctors ever! Plus it helps that he is drop dead gorgeous as well!

I love Tim Phillips version of the song. Well, I like his singing better. I wish they could get him to sing this version and that'd be brilliant.
They had a proms version, but outside of the studio, tim Phillips is s#!t

*I finally fucking found the song*
Hermoso video!!
When doctor who was good!
I actually prefer this version to the one that was played in the episode.
Is this made for Doctor Who or is this an actual song?

Nine: Have a good life, do that for me, Rose Tyler. Have a fantastic life. 😿
Merry Xmas for everyone who is seeing this right now ^=^
I have still not recovered from doomsday
I like this, but I prefer the edgier TV version. It suited Tennant's Doctor more.
Why isn't this an official Christmas song
I´m again miss Rose :/ #doomsday
Is this song in any episode?
Yup. This song is played at the end of the first episode of David Tennant as the Doctor. (the Christmas Invasion) It's played when he chooses his clothes. Just before they say that Harriet Jones 'is tired' on TV while they're eating at Rose place.
Best
DT is the best ever
Всхлип, всхлип.
10 misses Rose so much :(
This song is the bigger spoiler ever, jajaja
Any one else thinks that this sounds like Mcfly's Memory Lane?
That's exactly what I thought.
That's exactly what I thought.
why is it all the songs are symbolic and sad?
In memory of the doctor and roses seperation
+CubingPianos stilll
I will never understand this song. Is it the Doctor singing it to Rose. Or is it Rose singing it to him? Either way it works.
Personally I think it's The Doctor singing to Rose. 😭😭😿
this was reprised in the recent episode
Can somebody please explain the popularity of the tenth doctor I don't really get it
Well, David Tennant played the Doctor with such a sincerity & grit & fire, that well, for me, made him one of my most favorite Doctors ever! Plus it helps that he is drop dead gorgeous as well!
Isn't the good pictures for this beautifull song
