    Another great vid Peter.
    Strap brand recommendation videos don't appear on YT enough.
    I've got the same Borealis tropical on my Seiko 55 Fathoms (SNZH-57J) and it's bloody brilliant.
    On the other hand, I have a great looking vintage 'rally' style tropical from Cheapest Nato Straps on my Invicta Pro-Diver. But it's not the same. It looks the goods - 20mm tapering to 10mm at the tip with a vintage pattern embossed into the rubber, but it doesn't wear any where near as well as the Borealis does. And you feel it on your wrist after a day's wear - especially on a knock around watch like the Invicta.
    Another great one mate. Loving the channel.

    Best Tropic on the market is unquestionably the Méraud Tropic. Rubber compound like butter, beautiful high polished buckle, the perforations line up with the tropic pattern and a keeper that has matching texture. Every detail painstakingly considered right down to a historically accurate Acier Inox engraved on the underside of the buckle. I swapped out my Oris Tropic for one as it’s so so much nicer. Try one. You won’t be disappointed.

      The Seiko Prospex strap on the SNE543 watch was a really nice feel.,..in this video: ua-cam.com/video/3rbkkSpFncI/v-deo.html

    Thanks Peter. I enjoyed your reviews and comparative approach. I've been holding off buying Borealis straps (Both their diver/Iso-style and the Boavista/tropics) but (1) was waiting on more color options and (2) was wondering about their specs mainly the length as I have a 6.7"sh wrist diameter. Hope you could share and touch on this in you next review and video. It would be great if you Borealis sent you more color options on both strap types. Thanks in advance.Cheers!

    • @PeterKotsa

      Ive checked their specs, the ISO strap version is sized at 130/75mm each length and the Tropic is sized at 131/78mm. Just to give you a heads up, I have a 7" wrist and I am halfway up the scale for available holes and there is plenty of strap left over for a larger wrist. Hope that helps

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  4 роки тому +2

      @@ronin7106 I'm using the tropic on two of my watches sand I find them more comfortable because of its taper from 20mm to 12mm. The ISO is 20mm all the way. As far as the tropic being longer, the holes travel pretty much the entire length of the strap. So far no issue with me, cheers

  • @ElijsDima
    @ElijsDima 4 роки тому

    That compression that you saw on the Oris strap, it happens with basically all rubber straps, if the springbar is fatter than the hole in the strap normally allows. With a fatter springbar, the strap gets stretched roundwise, and thus (like any rubber) contracts lengthwise - thereby becoming 19mm / 18mm. It could be that the Oris tropic strap has too small of a prefabricated hole...

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  4 роки тому

      I thought that might be the case. I used the standard spring bars that Oris supply on my Borealis strap and no issues. You are probably right, the strap Oris supplies might have holes a little small for the intended use.

      Peter Kotsa I own version two of the waffle strap in both 22mm and 20mm, I do like these. I’m actually wearing a watch with the 22mm one as I write this.
      I own the Tropic strap in both 22mm and 20mm. The 20mm version is great, the 22mm (which I bought used) has issues with the molding process, and the ventilation holes are halfway filled with excess rubber. In addition, the 22mm strap has the same pattern/spacing of the holes as the 20mm strap, but the size of the holes is actually smaller. The 22mm in person does not look as nice. I love the 20mm tropic, just not the 22mm.
      Also on the six straps that I own, the pin on the buckle is a little short on two of them.
      Larry does have really great customer service though, and was always quick to respond to my email.

    I have several Borealis rubber straps. They are all of excellent quality, but they all have a problem in my opinion. The Isofrane types have square retainers instead of rounded retainers that I think are more uncomfortable. And the tropic type is excessively long. It is even longer than a Seiko Z20. If they made a shorter version of the tropic I would not hesitate to buy it again.

      The look of Joseph Bonnie is nicer in my opinion, they look more refined. As for the feel, both being vulcanised rubber there shouldn't be a difference.

    Did you say “tapers down to 12?” I would like a less harshly angled buckle with some style. Those hard right angles are not good.

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  4 роки тому

      Hi Jared, when I first saw the specs on their website, I was a little concerned about the exact same thing...the huge taper down to 12mm.
      In wearing the strap, I now realise that the firmness , yet subtle material used benefits such a taper. It is really a pleasure on the wrist.
      Once again every one is different, this might not suit your wrist or preferences. For me it sits really well...so no complaints here:)
      Hope that helps, cheers mate

    Love divers, buy them new and used, but often shy away from pieces that are not on a metal bracelet, since I have been disappointed with latex straps (even Seiko's). Oddly so, Invicta had a good one on a cheap diver. Liked the handsome Borealis on the Oris. Thanks for the heads up on this brand. Best, JP

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  4 роки тому

      I have some fat Spring Bars here and they do not fit the Tropic. I can fit a 1.8mm possibly a 2mm spring bar, but not the 2.5mm. I have heard of people lubricating the spring bar with some soap and then 'making it fit' however i would not recommend that as it would compromise the rubbers integrity by stretching it and possibly causing stress fractures in it over time. Hope that helps, cheers:)

      I think these fit a 1.8mm springbar, any larger and your pushing it. Although I have heard of people lubricating a thicker 2 or 2.5mm springbar with soap and forcing it in. Peter, I run a highly successful, premium products store on eBay. I must take exception to your repeated use of the term poor quality straps from eBay. eBay did not sell those straps. An eBay seller sold those on eBay. Please state the brand name (if there is one) of the straps you purchased. Every day I fight the bias that eBay sells junk. eBay sells EVERYTHING. Your remarks perpetuate the belief that eBay sells junk. The seller sold you junk.

    • @PeterKotsa

      I hope I did not imply that eBay was the culprit, that wasn't my intention. I actually buy a lot of things from eBay. In fact the watch pictured (Oris Diver 65) was purchased on eBay and I made mention of it in my previous video.
      I apologise if I gave the wrong impression, I will be more careful in future vids.

The Borealis seems to taper a bit more and they are longer than the US Tropic strap. I do like the double keeper.
