Haha this is great, hearing the brutal honesty on a song/band that was a big part of my early teen music explorations was absolutely hilarious, the boredom, and the "you and me, but im not you, and your not me, but not like you, because im numb" cracled me up!!

Mike Shinoda is a classically trained piano player that happens to be in a rock band. Linkin Park does have some songs that aren't heavy metal songs. 1 of those songs are My December. My December is a soft song that is a very calming song. I listen to this song when I am getting ready for bed to help my brain calm down.

Chester (lead singer)and Linkin park helped me though a lot of rough times in my life. Your right Chester was an incredible person, he had a beautiful soul. It's horrible we lost him 6 years ago. Chester had terrible things happen to him early in his childhood. The things he sang about resonated with him and also us as their fans.
You have a right to your opinion, of course.
However billions of fans felt different. Rip Chester..

Chester was a great person, but this reaction is about the music. Their songs are catchy and great to listen to, but technically, most of them are simple. That doesn't mean they are a bad band, it just means what it means. Simple music with great lyrics by great people.

Music is expression. Sometimes things don't resonate. As someone who's never been _that_ into LP - I can appreciate it for what it is and definitely see why others like it.
Chester's vocals are an intricate expression of pain that's hard to match.
Love the channel - keep 'em coming.

People want/need 1)autonomy 2)real emotional connection with others. For example, if you have been in an abusive relationship (especially as a child) it is hard to pursue your needs, you cannot be in a really close relationship, nor can you be autonomous. This is why there is so much "I" and "you". Its not just a teen problem i think.

I feel like a lot of people who dislike Linkin Park, or strongly dislike it. Do so mainly because of 2 reason.
    1. Either they just don't like the themes that the band usually puts forth. I.e. Personal struggle, hardship, angst, anger, sadness, metaphorical themes etc.
Which, is a perfectly valid reason. But its also completely subjective.
    2. They don't like the music because its too "simple". Again perfectly valid reason, I don't think anyone could argue that their music technically has tons of depth. However, personally I can really appreciate the simplicity of their music based purely on the fact they are so great at actually recording and producing. So they make the most of what they have, and it gives a lot of their songs a timeless quality and real sense of being "forged" rather than being written on a whim and recorded for the album.
Big fans of the band know how much fucking material these guys write each time they record an album. Enough to fill several albums worth of demo material that sounds better than a lot of bands best material.
And if you know this you also know that most of their songs become how they are through a lot of experimentation and iteration. And I can always really appreciate this.
It think there's a misconception that the more complex a song is, the more "stuff" it has so to speak. The better its supposed to be. But personally I feel that there's a lot of bands (mostly metal bands if we're honest), that hide a lack of creativity behind long guitar solo's, lots of distortion and double bass drums. By the way I'm not claiming Linkin Park is a metal band because at least in my eye they're clearly not.
If you ever take it upon yourself to listen to their entire discography. I think you'll find it hard to claim these guys aren't creative. Even if a lot of their songs have similair structure.

  • @Haffelpaff

As a "Xilennial" I felt like Nirvana understood my teenage angst, but Linkin Park were hitting closer to home. I guess the connection you created there was not intentional, but both bands pretty much were the voice of a generation, both bands did that with creating pretty much their own kind of genre, in both bands there were two extremely talented and outstanding charismatic people, both bands lost one of them to suicide. It must be a tough job to be the voice of a generation. Sure, Linking Park are often on some carpet of a simple distorted cord progression, but I could also play the complete nevermind album only wih powerchords, but but both managed to nail the Zeitgeist. I don't know if teenagers today feel so deeply emotional connected to math rock that in 30 years they still instantly get goosebumps when they hear the 300 notes of the first 3 seconds of "playing god", but I hope everyone has an artist that does that to them, because ists awesome. Just as awesome as people being just honest, people having the balls to upload reactions that could upset some fans are people I immediately subscribe. Because another goosebump song to me is "no more lies" by Iron Maiden. xD

A complicated song doesn’t always make for a good song. Also, if you are ignore the delivery of the lyrics you ignore the pain. No diss to Celine Dion, but she has never expressed the anger, depression, angst, nor can she take her voice where Chester can. He could sing like an Angel, and he could sing like a demon. How about playing him Given Up. There really isn’t a hard song to play on guitar for Linkin Park. There are some complex to very hard guitar solos. And very complex and hard drumming like on their sixth album The Hunting Party.
While lyrical and vocal deliveries of Chester and Mike are the driving force on the first two album, their third album Minutes to Midnight is when the took a huge leap production wise.
I really don’t like how this critic dismisses the lyrics and disregards the deliveries. Just because you can’t relate to his pain doesn’t mean you can’t have compassion. You lack compassion. Chester had a very hard life and nobody but him truly knew the depths of his despair. He took it and put it all down on paper and sang it until he couldn’t anymore. Now he’s gone. The man with the voice of an angel and a demon.

Unlike all my friends, I've never enjoyed Linkin Park. For me, it's because it all just felt too contrived and designed so that their music would appeal to a specific demographic. The ever present teenage Nirvana fan in me could never accept or respect that, but I do understand they helped a lot of people which is great.

So, what im getting is you're basically saying you don't really care for.... simplicity in the music? I mean, fair, I can understand why, given your background, and I definitely concede that I do love classical music. Chester is one of those people who showed that songs don't have to be complex to still be powerful. Simply relating to people with his music was enough. Hey., no hate though! You like what ya like.

Maybe you should’ve showed him DISTURBED live performance of THE SOUND OF SILENCE and see how he feels about that 😑 But of course everyone is titled to like or dislike what they want whether we disagree or not.
    RIP Chester Bennington

    Lol great reaction
I loved LP’s first two albums but this was no surprise, what is he going to say about vi IV I V diamonds, and a chorus with no phrasing
that’s nearly unsingable live (Both characteristics of “crawling”).

So, for this guy everything should be like a symphony or opera or something?
And how is Nirvana better, pray to explain?!
Just think about the song 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' lol
I like you guys, I just didn't hear a valid argument against Linkin Park.

This reminds me of the time when a bunch of chess grandmasters got pissed off because some popular streamers started playing "their" game to more viewers than they've ever seen. The pretentiousness is theough the roof.

Putting down Linkin Park while lifting up Nirvana as teen angst. I suck ass at guitar and even I can play Nirvana. Sorry but this comes off as elitist.
