Helen is such a cute getaway. My wife and I went there for a brief honeymoon in 2004. We’ve made several trips back in the years since. Recently we’ve planned to spend at least a weekend in Helen around our late October anniversary. Hoffbrauhaus’ Schweinhaxen is the must have entree.
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!! I used to spend a long weekend at a cabin in Helen every year for Oktoberfest and for New Year's but I moved away and can't go anymore and I miss Helen, Satuee Nacoochee, Amicalola Falls, Hike Inn, Mt Yonah, and the North Georgia mountains so bad!!
how long do you suggest we stay there ..going dec 8 to 9th ....8th getting there 5pm or so and 9th checking out town...do you suggest from 10-4pm can we see all the shops have lunch dinner there and see ruby falls and see whole town in 6 hrs? or you suggest staying another night there?
Hello! I would spend as much time as your budget will allow, but that’s just my opinion!? When I explore a new town I don’t like to get rushed! I like to take it all in ! This video is only a fraction of the cool stuff we were able to do in this town, because we stayed for I think 4 days! But if you can only stay for a few days, it’s just nice to be in the mountains and breathe the fresh mountain air!
Here is my review..... I haven't been in 20 years.... I used to love the place.... But then it was taken over by Harley Davidson motorcycles.... All you heard was pipes pipes pipes... It totally ruined our trip.... So how fun if you want a non peaceful visit in the mountains.
We love your video of Helen, Andy! We would love to feature a few seconds of it (with credit) to promote travel in Georgia. Your perspective is so fun! If interested, you can grant us permission through the “collector” link in our bio. Hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks for watching! I’m happy to let you use my footage to promote travel! I will go to your bio and give you a follow. Never heard of “collector link” but I’m sure that I can figure it out🤷♂️
i've been here twice, i love the area the hiking is real nice....but what is all the fuss about the town? it's literally like 2 blocks that are "bavarian" and most of the buildings and shops look run down, it's just a dingier, cheesier, smaller version of Gatlinburg.......which is also a cheesy tourist trap
The area is really nice and it is a great weekend getaway. But like people have said, the town is 2 blocks of rundown overpriced t-shirt and trinket shops. It is the Mrytle Beach of the mountains. Rent a cabin and avoid Helen.
I have a cabin near Helen and know the area well. 15 years ago it was a great place for adults to relax and enjoy the area and it was a little like a Bavarian town. You could find authentic German clocks, Tapestries, beer steins, etc. in the shops and the streets were not crowded. If you were a little tipsy, the police would take you back to your hotel but now they take you to their jail and DUI checkpoints are everywhere. The town has turned into a mass of cheap T-shirt and trinket shops, overpriced poor quality food and families with wayward children. The road (only one main road) is bumper to bumper and the sidewalks are packed. Keep valuables close by because Helen is the #1 city for crime in Georgia. For those of us that knew what it once was, it is a shame to see what it has become.

The town is meant for tourist... but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!
